that is because it is a much older song, that eventually became an Appalachian folk song. It's been 'bluegrassified' here. I actually prefer the more traditional rendition of the song for that reason, there is a disconnect between the feel of the rhythm/embellishments, and the content of lyrics. This is pretty great though.

+the32712 Steve Sparkman is the best at the Stanley style (next to Ralph of course). He even sounds like Ralph on back-up. Plays it just like Ralph on the back-up parts too, the way Ralph used to make the banjo "glide" throughout the song--Steve does that well here also!

Yes, agree 100%. A premier example of what Patty Loveless is capable of. You said it well, these are the folks that help keep our faith in people alive. Such tremendous talent they have been gifted with -- they have worked at it their entire lives, and not misused it. Love hearing the whole group together.

That guy on the banjo, Steve Sparkman, is a cop in Kentucky. Some of these guys are no longer with us. James Price was melting the strings off that fiddle. Patty is in a league all by herself. The finest female singer alive--period.
