Dude, I clicked this for the Ibanez demo but DAMN, that intro jam was beautiful.
Locking tuners, stainless steel frets and a Graphtech nut should be the industry on all guitars over $800.
I don't care if they are locking but they need to be QUALITY high ratio 21.1 for fine tuning
I agree. My Harley Benton Fusion II has locking tuners, Nu-bone nut and stainless steel frets and I paid about $330 including shipping with a cheap gig bag. Of course the pickups are not as good as the RGA42HPQM-BIG's.
graphtech nuts should be the industry standard on any guitar that isnt cheap for beginners. theyre $15 for christ's sake, and manufacturers get discounts
Facts, my Schecter Reaper doesn’t have locking tuners and it was $1200, the Schecter C-1 Silver Mountain which is $50 more does though. Makes me mad.
I picked up one of the last 3 available in canada and I gotta say it was the best purchase I've ever made
Noodle sleeping in the background of the B-roll footage makes me smile.
Another nice guitar from Ibanez, who should always be in the same breath as Fender and PRS (and that Nashville guitar company) as top builders. I agree with you, locking tuners should be a standard feature.
200th like! 👍
Deine Videos sind immer pur Entertainment, danke dafür!
Thanks for the review, I learned some things and it is appreciated. Two years after this video (March 2023), with prices soaring like mad, I just grabbed one of these beauties w/ a stock double-locking Floyd Rose for $670 US. Brand-new through my go to shop during a winter clearance sale + a bit off because it was a floor demo (small cosmetic issue as a result). There are deals to be had that are too good to pass up. Powered by my UK made JCM800, I'm tearing through the sky and cracking the Earth at my discretion. Rip some riffs and smile everyone!
Amazing
You straight killed the clean lead in the beginning , I was like ok now cool down the guitar is gonna catch fire
I just ordered the guitar for my birthday it is coming on Friday a week before my birthday thank you the video was smart professional and hilarious. I saw a lot of Robin Williams in your Humor. Thank you so much for the video again. It's my 1st high performance guitar I moved up from buying a $400 1 and that's it Hey this one's 850
Thanks for your honest oppinion!
Add the R for roasted maple in the suffix, then it becomes the RGA42HPQMR-BIG.
DiMarzio AirNorton + SuperDistortion is my favorite combination in this kind of guitar.
Agreed. Just left GC tried this one. As an extreme metal guy, this is to hot and thin sounding. But wow the feel is absolutely amazing it may be worth upgrading but not at $899
so basically the same price as the Cort G300 which features a roasted maple neck, staggered locking tuners, Seymour Duncans, a maple top, stainless steel frets, luminlays and a compound radius, and that is made in the same exact factory. huh.
Wow! I want one.
The amount of people bemoaning a lack of locking tuners on this guitar is pretty sad. I've had this guitar for about two weeks now and it just gets better and better each time I play it. You will probably be able to find it a price that justifies the lack of locking tuners now and I can't recommend it highly enough.
Ok I need to pause and give my opinion first.... I just listened to HP play and I am wowed by the tone, I don't care for the bridge (I like the hip shot design) that's a personal problem lol. For the price this is a 10 out of 10.... I like it a lot. Now let me watch the rest of the video... Please continue HP.
I still stand firm with what I said after watching. A bicycle last year went for $330 USD this year $550 USD . prices are going up all over... Love you HP and thank you for your total honesty.
unrelated but the drip from your shirts go crazy
Love it when you actually play like this... very musical. Half the time it seems like you don't try... and then you play like this! :-)
When split those pickups really reminded me of Dimarzio Super Distortions
edit...Oh shit it's got DM's but the Fusions
I really love super dark roasted maple. I prefer the dark coffee color over the standard caramel color.
Nice transposition of Always With Me, Always You, Henning....sly dog you... :D
I think the extra money for this High Performance version of the RGA42FM illustrates well how strange the RGA series' pricing is. Whereas this guitar costs $500 more than the RGA42FM, the RG421HPFM (essentially this guitar's cousin) costs only $400 more than the RG421. That cost difference is probably attributed to this guitar's finished back (which the RGA421HPFM lacks). Though this guitar's roasted maple neck should feel lovely, the RG series offers a good compromise: the RGRT421's five-piece neck and neck-through construction should provide at least as much stability. The RGRT421 costs $260 less than the RG421HPFM and $460 less than the RGA42HPQM: the former cost difference easily covers locking tuners and new electronics (including pickups), and the latter cost difference may well cover a full refret with stainless-steel frets. Just how much is the RGA's beveled body worth to you?
The moronic names of the models make this damn near unreadable.
@@martinkrauser4029 "RG" =Roadstar Guitar
"RGA" = Roadstar Guitar Arched Body
"RGR" = Roadstar Guitar Reverse Headstock
"RGT" = Roadstar Guitar Through Neck
Leading "4" = Dual Humbucker
Secondary "2" = No Pickguard
Trailing "1" = Hardtail Bridge
"HP" = High Performance
"FM" = Flame Maple
"QM" = Quilt Maple
It might help to have Ibanez's site open such that you can refer to the models as you read. Ibanez's model naming convention is quite logical, due to its consistency and Ibanez's need for a consistent standard across writing systems.
It's a guitar that I crave for its looks, it fits my taste perfectly, but I know it's a bad deal...
Bad deal how?
No it's not. It's a beautifully crafted and even better sounding instrument.
JS is still a guitar god!!!! IMHO
Gorgeous guitar. Looks amazing. I like the sound. But in that price range, i'm leaning more towards a Chapman ghostfret, or a solar. But until i can afford that (or justify with my beginner playing) its harley benton for me, and another one, and another one, and another one and anotherone. (HB are bullies, they want all my moneys)
Why don't they put the Tight-End bridges on them anymore? That looks like the same bridge that is on the GRGR series. Thought you might know.
Seems really odd that my similar priced Ibbys both have Gotohs. Personally not bothered about gig bag, as they're going on a rack and getting moved around in hard cases, but lack of locking tuners on this nice modern sounding guitar with a really pretty finish is a barrier to me 😔
That Rev is killer to
sweeeeeeeeeeeeet looking guitar! :)
Yeah I think Sach use some fusions actually not a bad tone with the Reverb and delay maybe dial the tone knob down a touch just saying
I found one brand new (open box, never played) from Sam Ash for $590 after tax and shipping. Bought it before it got snagged by someone else even though I wasn’t sure about it after looking at the specs. Worth it at that price point?
QM = Quilted Maple. Only has a 3 position blade switch because it has a coil split toggle switch.
After a year of heavy use, I have to say that the tuners work pretty well for not being blocking. My guitar will have gone out of tune hopefully once, nothing more. Of course, I recommend using a string gauge of 0.10, and the guitar will go well with the tuning
How much does the guitar weigh?
@@TeeFetch The truth is light, maybe it weighs a little more than 3 kilos
I have to agree with you. I love Ibanez and I only play Ibanez guitars because I love the designs, technically and visually. Great shapes, fantastic neck profiles, great playability, beautiful finishes. But the HP series is kinda meh, I must say. They are not bad guitars at all but except for the pickups and the roasted maple neck there's not a lot of "High Performance" going on on this guitar. Why not the Gibraltar bridge instead of the F106? Why no locking tuners? This is 899 EUR, made in Indonesia.
And yes, Schecter has guitars for 899 that come with locking tuners, 5-piece laminated necks and Wilkinson Tremolos or Hipshot bridges.
When I see this guitar, it's like: "Well... okay... For this price I can get another 550 made in Japan in a different color!" :D
Selling high price with low feature.....
I'll never again buy a new guitar without locking tuners...
It makes live so much more bareable
Simply buy locking tuners
@@xygen8252 Or maybe just buy a guitar with locking tuners...
For 800 bucks thats not to much to ask for.
I bought 30€ locking tuners from HB, they work great BUT they are on a 200€ guitar now...
@@ickebins6948 but if i want everything the guitar has and the only thing that's missing are locking tuners then ill just buy em separate
@@xygen8252 Well ofcourse you do...
That's why my statement was:
"I'll never again buy a ... "
Speaking for myself not anybody else.
you can buy it separately, easy
Im curious about that bridge. It's just an ultra basic bridge found on most beginner guitars. Why do they keep using that? Why can't they put something more modern like Hipshot bridge? That is the same bridge found on $99 kids beginner guitars. I don't get it.
I have come to accept that Ibanez makes a lot of their decisions regarding specs using some arcane reasoning that is beyond what us mortals can comprehend. My $500 Agile Intrepid has Grover tuners and a Graphtech nut.
7 : 00 a chicken picks a knee, awesome played.
Now it gets a little ing sound with the pedals kicked in and before that a little Skynyrd so yeah it seems to be versatile maybe just change out the n u t I got a bone to pick with those engineers probably the only little flaw they must have flipped a coin over that one or a Chinese beer wherever the beer bottle pointed yay or nay on the nut or Yin or Yang on the nut
Just picked one of these up for $1000 AUD (~600Euro / ~650USD) brand new. Couldn't say no, especially given the ridiculous prices these days. Certainly couldn't justify RRP though ($2200AUD full freight, $1400-$1700 in the real world).
Happy to spend the few dollars replacing the nut and will mostly likely throw a few more dollars on tuners etc later on, depending on how I feel. :P
Okay I’m still new to this, but how is it that the Ibanez humbuckers sound like the best single coils ever. What am I missing. Anyone?
Can anyone please help me find the backing track
Because od HP42 in name it is yours. That's not a coincidence!!!
Gorgeous guitar but Ibanez still loses out in core features for the prices still! The nut still being plastic is easily my biggest gripe, when I spend 700+ on a guitar that nut better be graphtech or bone! I can get a Jackson or Charvel for the same price with better hardware.
you're just paying for the looks
@@darinsteele7091 and the name.
yeah, i agree. i have guitars built in indonesia and korea, which have stainless frets, roasted maple neck, bone or graphtec nuts (i have both), brass saddles. none of them have any flaws and cost a lot less than th ibanez. fender are only just getting into roasted maple and they are the top of the line models. gibson? gibson, wouldn't know what hit them, they are well behind. oh yeah, and locking tuners.
Which way would you put the coil tap for leads?Nice playing :-)
whatever you like better
Probably work good with modeling amps
Yeah makes a lot of sense except for the $0.05 they lose and to me that doesn't make any sense that could be the difference between a sale Anna I will pass
5:11 QM actually and obviously means quilted maple
Anybody selling decoder rings to figure out ibanez model numbers or do i just judge them by price
QM Quilted Maple?
Yeah that single coil switch sounds like Earl sperzel and the bootlickers sound
Now there's a guitar that looks better from the back than the front. I don't like quilted maple, big whoop, wanna fight about it?
As for all the different specs across the range, I imagine even a few cents per guitar really adds up when you're producing thousands of them. If you're building to a price point, you have to cut costs somewhere; you focus on certain more upscale specs, you have to cut corners on others. Plus, they're working with different factories, which might have different cost structures. It's probably a lot more complicated than "Why don't they just do this on every model?!"
So Noodle really had A LOT of hair!!!! 🤣 Also.....20:25 ....tequila?
14:09 sounds like that one Coldplay song 😎
QM probably means Quilted Maple.
I think Ibanez wants to have their Axion Labels and Iron Labels as the main 800-1200 guitars but their HP series is kinda the place where they purely want to make an extra buck. This guitar realistically should be no more that 600-700 bucks. But maybe this is how they are getting the GIOs so good at that low a price; gotta make a buck somewhere, I guess?
EDIT: just checked and the HP series runs from anywhere between 400-700 depending on the model. I stand corrected. I guess the 900 was the list price that you mentioned, Henning?
EDIT 2: this guitar is 628 gbp on Thomann but seems to be 899 Euro for Germany? That's odd.
No VAT on the UK Thomann site, add 20%
Death and Taxes, and cheese 🧀 😋 mmm wait what someone say Pia👀🐿
Ah I see. Yes. Just checked on Andertons and it’s 729 gbp. Not bad but 650 is what it should be at most.
Yeah who wants to add in locking tuners nut an a gig bag or a case when it should be already there I'm sure they can do that and you wanted to have different pickups that should be an option and then that price would be marching out the doors but what do us guitar players k n o w don't ask a guitar player ask an engineer
Weight?
Highbanez?
Nice track. Nice guitar. The Ibanez name is too short.
"Some song you heard once"?! Isn't that a Joe Satriani song?! O__o ! 14:26
QM stands for "other letters".
Could "other letters" stand for "Quilted Maple"?
could be
If you ain’t first you’re last
I hate locking tuners... better some used 18:1 grovers for 40 euro
i bought an early japanese charvel with a custom case for the same price so fuck ibanez for not even giving a gig bag. here you're just paying for the looks 100%
murder sweater because why not
Anything sounds good to an Engel Fireball
15:00 eheheheh, about that...
First
@25:06 OH NO HE DIDN'T !!! He gunna get an authentic lawsuit !!
No locking tuners, no graphtech nut, scarfjoint = No purchase.
Wow and then they put that little mechanism to get to the adjustment screw and don't put the good nut on it yeah these got to be engineers Engineers live in their own little mysterious world
That neck looks like my toaster when it sticks and I think the house is burning down but no it's my toast almost charcoal black maybe the guy bumped his buddy hey you're over roasting that neck you know oh yeah oh yeah thanks whew got it out just in the nick of time his friend goes I don't know might have overdone that one other guy goes that's the same way I make my toast charcoal with extra butter
This guitar should cost 500$. Waaaay overpriced for its specs. I mean, how many brands sell guitars for 900$ in cardboard boxes?
Lots of them! Be honest!
So, buy a $200 Gio, change the pickups and you would be already halfway there to match this one, if you don't care about the finish. Kinda weird idea of high performance, ibanez.
No way the Gios made in china function but they are garbage, the carve top, cutouts. Fading stain, and overall craftsmanship in indonesia is already higher, so is the hardware and roasted maple
2:32 I like that😍💋 💝💖❤️
Lol
good video work, yet another boring Ibanez guitar.
I don’t get the new Ibanez and Jacksons…. 1000k guitar made of scraps…
you can get rg550 instead of this junk
Yep! The Genesis series is the best bang for the buck right now.
rg505 still better
No thx. I love my low 300$ ibanez -_-
It sounds like a ripoff, for something very beautiful looking and sounding. Well, at least for the 2H setting, the rest is kinda meh.
Bullshit CLICKBAIT to make us think this was 42HP-BIG was the Henning signature model. Shame on Ibanez!
Qm stands for quilted 🍁.. I actually bought this guitar with the floyd bridge .. basically cuz I had already bought an epi prophecy and it was so horrible I HAD to return it.. has 4 or 5 high frets and they felt like sandpaper.. so talk about an overpriced guitar at $900 I was shocked at how bad it was.. anyway I digress.. so I swapped that for this ibanez.. which is what brought me here.. hopefully when it arrives I like it more than that epi.. which isn't that high of a mark to beat.. killer demo as usual.. u da man🤙🎛🎼🎶🎸🤟
How are you liking that Ibanez?
Any issues?
