    the ECM came from a maxima that had 80k miles on it. my car has over 300k on it. i really dont want to spend 2 to 3 thousand dollars for a new ECM

    This video I made after hours at the dealer I work for. It's best to get these parts new, not used to ensure this repair is done properly! Getting used parts you run the risk of them not working and costing you more money.

  • @FixyourNissan
    @FixyourNissan  Před 9 lety

    The scanner used is the Nissan Scan tool called consult 2. This is a Older Nissan Scanner that is not used very much any more. Mainly on these older cars.

    makes me remember when my service writer sold a fuel indution service on a maxima and i unplugged the throttle body, sat ther for an hour trying to relearn the idle with the key/gas pedal method.

  • @joni9615
    @joni9615 Před 11 lety

    Motor mounts is a similar issue where it damages the circuit that controls the engine mounts. But they won't cause this code. Simply unplugging the engine mounts normally works.

    Hey there i know how to turn a wrench it looks fairly easy to do. I dont have a relearn machine. If i replace the ecm as well as the IAC can i drive it to the dealership for a relearn or will that blow the ecm again. Trying to be as careful as possible

      EXACTLY! On a 2001 nissan maxima auto i have a IACV taken apart right now and its full of radiator coolant in my intake and down to my air filter. Now with that said is this a defect of the old IAC leaking? and is this what burns it out?

    • @FixyourNissan
      @FixyourNissan  Před 9 lety +1

      I don't recommend repairing the Ecm, I have never seen them work right after repaired and can put you back at square one. But if you do want to try to send it out for repair, that is up to you. Some repairs don't require keys to be programmed, some do. It's one of those things that you won't know till you get it back from being repaired. If the security light is on solid when the key is turned to the ON position, that means the keys will need to be programmed.
      Thanks for watching my video's.

    I just bought a 2000 Maxima. The old IACV was in the backseat when I got the car home, and it tested bad (short between pin 1-2 and 4-5) but the new IACV that the previous owner installed tested good. Can I assume the PCM is good?

    • @FixyourNissan
      @FixyourNissan  Před 6 lety

      That is a risk of damaging the new IAC. But if that old one was bad, then it's very likely the Ecm was affected by it.

    Hello, CAN I DRIVE WITH THE IAC VALVE UNPLUGGED? I replace the ECM and I got a full throttle control body from a junk yard but it seams that the valve is not good here either. however, the engine light did not turns on but the scanner gives me the code P0505. it could be that the ECM is good or bad, I don't know, I think that it is good because of an early discovery. the car is parked now but at this point I only want to drive the car until I replace the Valve and figure out what I want to do. So, can I without braking the new ECM?

    I have a 2000 Maxima SE (manual transmission) and am now on my 4th IAC. Admittedly the first 2 were not Nissan OEM, but the last one was. Nissan dealership said my ECM was OK when I had the last IAC installed. I don't know if I trust that dealership too much. A year and a half later, it is dying again and throwing the code. I got my ECM taken out and was going to have it sent off, but I don't see any damage (certainly not like your video 5). I hate to buy an ECM if I don't need to. Ideas?

    question...if your ecm is burnt...would it still be able to give a correct reading on a scan tool? i have an 01 maxima that couldnt start at all...i changed two gears on the fly wheel and it started running with one crank....a week after that, i began having the problem where it began to run rich...i then had to change the ecm according to what a local mechanic told me, he said that "the ecm is the problem".... but even after the ecm change, the problem still exists...the code thats coming up in this new ecm is the p0505...for the past few weeks ive still been having this problem, and recently it began to get worse, it was just dumping fuel like crazy, running super rich, smoke every where...just about 3 days ago i had an incident where the car suddenly lost power and underneath, the muffler was glowing red...the day after, it would start and 5 to10 secs into running, it just stalls out like its out of gas or something...but theres a half tank in there!!!? and now it wont even take acceleration from the pedal...one mechanic said that the problem may be that my fuel pump is bad, one said that its my injectors, one said that it is my catalyst converter, one even said that there may be a wireing problem...im so confuesed....i had the car to these guys and spent a whole heap of money... but none of them can seem to figure out whats wrong with my car :-(...but looking for answers for myself i found u......plz!!!?? i really need help, i dont know what to do or what to believe anymore...

  • @FixyourNissan
    @FixyourNissan  Před 11 lety

    The outside numbers on the Ecm case is not the part number. As for a Manual Trans Ecm, they are hard to come by since there wasn't to many stick shift ones. Courtesy is the best place to get the Ecm in my opinion. I know you don't want to spend, but this is what needs to be done. Replace the Ecm and IAC to resolve

    question ... i dont have that code yet but would it be ok if i change the emc and iAC before the code popes up i mean i have 114,000 on my maxima and everything is factory would it be a problem if i change it ?? or would it be ok and prevent the code from popping up ??

  • @FixyourNissan
    @FixyourNissan  Před 10 lety

    Some lock smiths can program keys so it's important to inquire on that when you call a mobile locksmith. But they can not do the idle relearn. It's best to use the scanner to have that done to ensure the repair is correct.
    If you can't get a locksmith to program your keys, then the car would need to be towed to the dealer to have it done for you with the idle relearn.

    • @FixyourNissan
      @FixyourNissan  Před 7 měsíci

      Also, I have taken my old ECU out. I haven’t opened it up yet, but I’m going to this weekend. If the damage is minimal, can I purchase a STA509A mostet to replace the old one & see if that does the trick. That way, I won’t have to get another ECU, nor will I have to get it reprogrammed…right?

    • @FixyourNissan
      @FixyourNissan  Před 7 měsíci

      @@mistyedavidson7781 The chip repair if that is all it needs, will most likely require programming to be done regardless. But it's best to be repaired by a ECU Repair place to be properly tested when repaired.

    Ok, what scanner or pc hardware and software do I need?
    My car has 43k miles (2014- I just got it); looks like the former owners had this problem for a while and they couldn't figure it out. I am in mexico and not even the dealerships know what they are doing when it comes to Maximas so no way no how, I am going to do it myself. I will order the parts from a dealership in the US or from a Junck yard in the US because I don't even trust the Mexican dealerships here in Mexico. I would not be surprice if I buy the part here and get a made in china part insted. If you wait around 10 minutes it will startup and drive on like nothing happened. It seams to run only for around 10 mins or so and will do it again. The check engine light came on and the code that was set is P0505. I reset the code and just let the car run for 5 mins or so in the driveway the code did not come back so far. If it was the IAC would it immediately reset the code?

      FixyourNissan no I just connected the Ecm and that was it....
      So I gotta get the keyed program?
      And what eles?

    • @FixyourNissan
      @FixyourNissan  Před 6 lety

      If you watch my video's, the first thing I do is the Key programming so I can get the vehicle started. Once started, I allow it to get up to operating temperature and then I perform a Idle Relearn to verify the repair.

    • @FixyourNissan
      @FixyourNissan  Před 7 lety

      What do you mean it can't communicate?

    • @cobrasvt3866
      @cobrasvt3866 Před 7 lety

      It say iac busy, then it say can't communicate. I'm using obd2 bluetooth with nissan lite program which has idle relearn. Just got the car it seems the iac is new,but get po505 , the idle is 1100 . Car turn on stays on no problem other than idle high.

    • @FixyourNissan

      Did you replace the IAC and Ecm both at the same time?

    • @cobrasvt3866
      @cobrasvt3866 Před 7 lety

      I recently purchased the car but seems the iac is new . I guess I'll see if the ecm has anything burnt. Will the car still run fine with a burnt chip?

    • @FixyourNissan
      @FixyourNissan  Před 7 lety

      Bad Ecm then if all fuses are good.

    Great video!!! I have a question. I have changed my IAC, MAF sensor and my ECM. Went to nissan to have my keys reprogram. Nissan also did a ECM relearn. Is that the same as a Idle relearn? I am still getting the PO505 code. Any Ideas? thanks
