Vintage 1980 Star Wars Empire Strikes Back Series 1 Wax Box Break! ...and PSA submission

- In my continuing quest to find out if it's worth it to open old wax, and send the best cards in for grading, or just leave them in their sealed state... I am breaking a box of 1980 Empire Strikes Back Series 1 this time.
Love the box breaks on the 1977/78 and 2022 Star Wars stuff too…great stuff!

PSA will deduct a grade if they detect even one roller-mark print line on the front of the sapphire card. They use high powered magnification and tilt at every angle under the light. If there are multiple print lines, they’ll knock grade down further. Before sending any sapphire in, have to check for the print lines as this is a common Topps print defect on most of the SW sapphire cards. It’s too bad Topps didn’t do better quality control on this

I can still remember walking over to the new K-mart in Martinsville, IN in 1980 and buying rack packs of this series…I loved it!
@14:30 something I always wondered about that scene... after the doors close, did they actually sit down and have lunch with vader, before going off to be tortured? That would have been an awkward lunch.
It would have been great if Han had asked Vader, “Do you mind if I have one of the Danishes here on the table?”
Sorry to dominate the comments, but a cool set would be all the cards wildly off center with even the next card showing….I’ve got a few of those but not many…the wildly off center are fairly rare but somewhat findable themselves
Btw, the surgeon droid is 2-One-Bee or 2-1-B

I was new to this set… but yes, I see what you mean. Very cool card. Too bad, that all the ones I got in this box had imperfections. I didn’t send any in.

You know, the Topps Superman the Movie boxes from 1978 are much more affordable to buy, just as tough to find PSA 10’s, and as nostalgic for a lot of old guys like us who bought these packs back in the 1970’s…a Superman rookie in PSA 10 would be fairly desirable….you can still get boxes fairly easily for around $200
Any luck on lightly removing the wax off the fronts of the cards?
Yes! I think so! …I even sent a couple in, and will be very interested to see if it worked 🤞🏻. I have moderate hopes, but we’ll see. I just breathed on it, and lightly lightly wiped with a soft microfiber cloth.
Let us know how they come back…you might even demonstrate the method of removing the wax
