The "purple things" are called jewels or jewel bearings, usually made from synthetic sapphire or ruby. The main purpose of them are not as for any aesthetic purposes but to reduce friction between moving metal parts, which is important for durability, better power transfer (reducing the energy wasted), and accuracy.

Ive got a garmin epix 2 pro. Best watch/accessory I've ever owned. Garmin tops all others as far as practicality. Watch has a built in satellite mini-map with a map legend. Makes it like you've got a gta 5 mini-map at all times😭😭

The little purple pieces on the movements are gems. They cut down on wear and tear on parts that see a lot of friction.
Those little 'purple screws' as he called them are bearings. They are made of corundum which can many colours, and is what rubies and sapphire are. It's practical, it is an ideal material to make these tiny bearings out of, but it is also aesthetic. They are usually lab gown.

not entirely true but somewhat. an example would be VC's grand complication watch. it took 9 years from start to finish to make a single one. it has 2877 different parts in it with 63 different functions all mechanical, no battery. every single one of those 2877 had to be well thought out and designed and crafted by an extremely skilled watch maker. the attention to detail as far as polish and finish on every one of those parts is flawless and done by hand. i have been making watches five years and have no where near the skill it takes to make a nice luxury watch like some brands do. youre paying for the years it took for a craftsman to be able to produce that product. but there are also brands like hublot who take a 150$ movement and put it in a bad case and sell it for 10 grand. you just have to know what youre buying.
I bought a fake $60 Wimbledon dial Rolex Datejust off Dhgate last year and because I have a pretty well paying job (physical therapist) I've managed to convince literally EVERYONE that's asked about the watch that it is in fact a real Rolex that cost $14k. Moral of the story: 99% of people don't know anything about luxury watches so don't waste your money and just buy a decent fake because no one will be able to tell anyway.
