Cardboard Pendulum Clock Mechanism Tutorial

  • Hi there, I recently made a pendulum clock mechanism, and I hope you find this tutorial helpful.
    If you want to make each "tick" exactly equal to one second, you can use the pendulum formula to determine its length. If you want the mechanism to last longer, you can lengthen the string or increase the number of teeth on the gear.
    If your mechanism isn't working, try experimenting around with the following factors: How heavy the weight is, the length of the pendulum, the weight of the pendulum, the stability of the escapement, et cetera.
    NOTE 12/31/22: Hi everyone, looking back on this video, I want to point out that the ticks of the pendulum are not even. I will probably make an updated video of the pendulum clock mechanism once I improve the design.
    This video was made with WeVideo.

    Idk why people don't find this interesting. I can spend days together on pendulum clock. Thank you for making this video.

    Nice design; I don’t think I’ve ever seen one quite so simple! I would love to see a version 2.0 that used a longer pendulum for a 2 second swing, just to get a slower visual of it working. 😁👍

      I will definitely try that out in the future, I think a longer pendulum would also make the swings more even, and there is still a lot in the design to improve. Thanks for stopping by!

    Nicely done! Could you make your videos more longer with more instructions?

      Yeah, definitely, one of my plans is actually making an improved version of this clock in the future, thanks for stopping by!

    video shoulda been slowed wayyy down. between reading and watching, it's hard to do both at this speed.

    Do the measurements need to be exact to work

    • @cressyism

      Usually the more precise the measurements, the better chance it has of working. This design of a pendulum clock mechanism was my first, and I believe there are many parts that could be improved, so go for whatever works best for you.

      Can you please show the inside of the gear hitting the mechanism? I just cant get it to work 😭

    Is it spinning on it's own??

    • @hawksandwich4742
      @hawksandwich4742 Před 3 měsíci

      the weight that's tied to the string is falling which makes the thing it's wrapped around spin, and that's the power input for the clock. you wind it up (lifts the weight) and it runs until there's no more string for it to pull.
