That pause before the applause... the number one sign of an audience transfixed. Pure mastery of her craft in this performance.
Huuuge pet peeve of mine when they cut off the ending to clap, LOVED this live show and LOVED they let it all play!
she is an absolute dream
Simply 10/10
In a world of wispy voiced teens, voices corrected by auto-tune and those wishing they had talent, this woman stands on top of the mountain. Every tone is pure, every word is heard clearly. The song is a revelation, and her performance here, just a master class of emotional singing. Magnificent. Brilliant.
@@rdm1000it is indeed an astonishing song...
If Waitress didn't come out the same year as Hamilton probably it would've won all the awards
Trixie Calinawan > I’ve seen this argument a thousand times before but it is what it is. At best, that’s presumptuous. You would never hear Sara Bareilles whine and say anything like that.
true
True although don't forget The Color Purple was out again that year as well. It was stunning. Cynthia Erivo won Best Actress in a musical over Phillipa Soo.
Madeline Mantiss how can you tell she din’t whine? Were you there in the deepest night listening to her sob at least once? Sara deserves the world. The Waitress was at the wrong place at the wrong time. But it was still excellent. Again, she wouldn’t whine in your face and in live TV but you know.
@@blackclavish
Maybe she doesn't even care about the awards but we, as fans, want her to have everything in this world because she deserves it and the soundtrack is unbelievably gorgeous. So Trixie's comment is totally valid
She gets better each time she sings. Wow.
She must have performed this song thousands of times, and yet she sings it with the emotion, passion and commitment as if it were the first. I've lost count of the times I've listened to it. Stunning.
Yeah me too, I see you wrote that comment two years ago. She touched my heart with this song.
I always marvel at how each time she sings this it's so fresh and different ❤
One minute I’m sitting there laughing at the show and then suddenly I’m wiping away the tears - only the great can make that happen so easily, you’re wonderful Sarah.
She had me welling up too, wonderful emotion from a wonderful talent.
i was part of the audience and a lot of people next to us were in tears.
I have cried several times watching this perfomance.
She’s constantly amazing, but can we just talk about how beautifully this video is shot?! This is HIGH QUALITY ART BABY
I'm frequently blown away by the quality of staging The Graham Norton Show puts into a few minutes of precious performance. This was an absolute privilege.
The screen quality? The stage set-up? These are not the things that made this moment artistic. It was all about how she meant the words. She is a true storyteller.
beautiful
No I listen.
I don't even know if Sara is aware of how BRILLIANT she is. Apart from that, sings with amazing passion. 😁🤣👍🍺
I keep returning to this performance…
Sara’s voice is ethereal
I don't get blown away by much, but this is dynamically stunning, heart warming and musically brilliant. Well done!
Will you do yourself and your soul a favour and listen to her cover of yellow brick road? Thanks☺️
@@sineadcronin6998 absolutely, I have been watching other things she has done. I think she is wonderful.
At the age of 70 I can sincerely say that a huge highlight of my life was seeing Sara Bareilles in concert last year with my twin granddaughters and son. Sara is not only amazingly talented but also humble and kind and genuine. ❤️
You must check out Waitress’s Alison Luff cover of She Used to be Mine.
Rainy2255 I saw Alison luff live and she was absolutely amazing as Jenna.
She doesn't get enough praise in the music world, WOW....What a voice and might I say so beautiful!
OMG. Blown away. Never heard this before. Did not expect this kind if quality music on Norton. Gobsmacked. Can't stop listening.
same here, played it three times! Awesome
That’s exactly how I felt.
You should check out her other stuff, shes an amazing writer! Check out “manhatten” and “gravity” (thats the one they always cover in the talent shows.
Sara is extraordinary. Her concert in November was incredible
You should listen to the whole Waitress cast recording, it's heavenly
Stunning performance, my gosh
Sidenote, I love how RDJ was waiting for her to acknowledge him to shake her hand and she just waved at him hahaha iconic
She thought she going to sit at the end of the couch.
If i was sat with Emma Thompson and Sara Bareilles, god, I'd just die
This song cuts me a different way, everytime she sings it. She is just... gorgeous.
Oh yeah. He is just so wonderful.
How are you?
My jaw literally dropped as I watched this and I sat there transfixed. Just stunning. One of the best live solo performances I've seen anywhere in a very long time.
I agree
I’m obsessed with 2:50, it’s a moment of pure musical perfection with the combination of the piano and Sara’s voice.
As soon as I saw this on the show, I booked tickets for the musical and went 5 days later. That's her power.
Me too. Saw it today. A joy.
Give here multiple grammys. Her talent deserves it all! But who cares about the grammy? Sara is authentic and a talented vocalist and she doesn’t need it.
Game Of Show true
I'd be honored if some Sara B fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal cover performance of LOVE SONG on my YT channel in tribute to Little Voice, which stands as one of the greatest albums of the '00s decade. Live acoustic with no autotune or digital editing. Peace and stay safe.
Well . . . she's got one at least . . . (grammy that is . . . )
Maybe if she was fat or black or gay maybe she will win. That is how award show works now.
This is her best performance of SUTBM yet! Absolutely stunning with that intimate set too 💖
Bedsheets!
This is of course a very moving performance, but I think the fancam of her performing it at Berkeley is even better than this one.
It seemed like her voice wasn't 100% during this performance. Again, not to say this still wasn't phenomenal. She is still one of the most talented (if not the most) singer-songwriters of our time.
eccles36 my first time encountering a Sara Bareilles meme and I hope it’s not my last
Juan Manuel Aguirre I think you misunderstood my comment
@@eccles36 Sutbum
Sara Bareilles is just brilliant, I am always blown away by her talent.
I agree!!!
Sara is obviously extremely talented as a singer songwriter but I personally can't give enough props for her performance in the waitress musical. Musical theatre is still very difficult and extremely technical, but she nailed it despite it being her first theatre role! I saw her here in London a few weeks ago and fell in love ❤️.
I was lucky enough to watch her on Broadway. It was worth every penny.
Reminds me of that tv moment when adele blew the brits away. Happens very rarely but when it does wow
Good lord. This is one of the most beautiful performances I’ve ever heard
I feel the same.
Best performance I've seen in this show, BY FAR. Just her voice and a piano. When you're good, that's all you need.
Saw her in Waitress today. She plays the role of Jenna perfectly! This song gets your right in the pit of your stomach.
Seeing it on Saturday...I'll pack the tissues
@@sdol2348 ah! How exciting! You'll have a brill time!
I thought waitress ended Jan 5
@@meganramirez1825 The U.S. broadway production did end. The West End Production she's in just started.
Amy Rick how was it!?
Aside from her talent... Can we also appreciate how well filmed this was... Live on a regular TV chat-show
I’ve been a hardcore fan since around 2008, and I can’t recall ever seeing a live performance quite this emotional. Amazing as always, but this one hits different for me. I’m so glad she’s getting more recognition,
she’s absolutely one of the best singer songwriters alive.
Okay seriously when she hit that note most of time at the 1:07 mark, how she simply sang the word time is timeless like no one on this earth has even a fraction of the pure raw talent that you do and I’m simply amazing and bewildered by everything you’ve brought into this world. Okay life is full of twists and turns, good and bad, right and wrong but the point of the game is to keep on playing but with love, compassion and understanding..
I got to hear her sing this whole song live and it was just captivating. Like she was putting us all in a trance or something. She’s hands down one the most talented artists alive right now.
Oh my God I'm so speechless. Sara you are the best.
How are you Becca?
It's lockdown time everywhere and I miss Graham Norton, his celebrity filled couch and his audience. No other like him.
Sara does seem to get better every time I see these videos. I’ve seen the musical several times. I was so taken by the lyrics, the plot, the levity and seriousness all rolled into a wonderful 2 hours. I also got the chance to see her in concert , and she was even better live. Her talent can’t be captured on tape or video....she’s amazing!
I definitely recommend seeing the show if you can-its a once in a lifetime experience. 💜
the musical is not running anymore unfortunately...
One of the few voices that always bring me to tears. She is severely underrated. So much raw emotion in everything she sings.
She's brilliant
I WATCHED THIS LIVE ON THURSDAY AND I FREAKING MET SARA. SHE IS AN INCREDIBLE PERSON AND HER VOICE IS LITERALLY THE BEST IN THE WHOLE WORLD. UNREALLL
Sara all the way. No one does it better.
Thunk does it amazingly
There's certain pasion and connection a songwriter has with the songs he orshe writes, It's beautiful to watch.. My favourite version....
A definition of an underrated artist.
Her songs were out of this world. It speaks.
OMG what a stunning performance!!! No matter how many times I hear this song, it always manages to bring tears in my eyes. Also the fact that two of my role models sat side by side (Sara and Emma Thompson) really made my day!!
Why? just why were the audience not ALL on their feet at the end!? I mean how often in your life do you hear something that beautiful...
british people suck like that lol i hate when i’m at something and i don’t wanna be the only one on my feet
I dont give standing ovation because im still so emotional. Id rather sit and cry 😂
I'm sure they used to tell the audience not to stand cos of the massive swinging camera that goes over the audience, so perhaps some can't get up?
@@zoezebra1 lol 😂
We’ll I’m sure they’re busy wiping tears and dealing with trembling knees
Saw her in London. She's absolutely magical. Never experienced anything like it before. When she started singing this solo during the musical, everything just disappeared. So grateful I got to be there
It's not simple to say
That most days I don't recognize me
That these shoes and this apron
That place and its patrons
Have taken more than I gave them
It's not easy to know
I'm not anything like I used be, although it's true
I was never attention's sweet center
I still remember that girl
She's imperfect, but she tries
She is good, but she lies
She is hard on herself
She is broken and won't ask for help
She is messy, but she's kind
She is lonely most of the time
She is all of this mixed up and baked in a beautiful pie
She is gone, but she used to be mine
It's not what I asked for
Sometimes life just slips in through a back door
And carves out a person and makes you believe it's all true
And now I've got you
And you're not what I asked for
If I'm honest, I know I would give it all back
For a chance to start over and rewrite an ending or two
For the girl that I knew
Who'll be reckless, just enough
Who'll get hurt, but who learns how to toughen up
When she's bruised and gets used by a man who can't love
And then she'll get stuck
And be scared of the life that's inside her
Growing stronger each day 'til it finally reminds her
To fight just a little, to bring back the fire in her eyes
That's been gone, but used to be mine
Used to be mine
She is messy, but she's kind
She is lonely most of the time
She is all of this mixed up and baked in a beautiful pie
She is gone, but she used to be mine
2:31 - 2:34 : Just glorious!
keep coming back to this song. My mother passed away just recently .cryiing. Beautiful song. Thank you Sara.
I was lucky enough to see Ms B during her London appearance. Totally magnificent. Such talent 🌟
Just a beautiful stage, a light transfixed, the piano and HER VOICE alone. They dont make talent like this anymore.
Quite simply one of the best musical performances ever seen on TV!
FACT
What. A. Genius. Can’t believe I’ve only just discovered this massive talent.
Each time I see hear Sara perform, I 'm amazed at her beautiful voice ,and how she throws herself into each word ,Sara is a National treasure ❤
So happy that London audiences got the see this before COVID hit.
I saw this woman in concert in Sydney in 2014. Still one of the best I’ve ever been to!
Can you imagine what it would be like to do ANYTHING that spectacular in life? Something that everyone just stops and pays attention to because it's so hypnotic in it's brilliance. It's just a song that eats at your soul for how sad and lonely it is.
And she can do it every time, with every song. What a genius.
I've never seen such a heartbreaking performance ever. This is incredibly beautiful
Well said
2:31 - SHE DESTROYED ME! ❤️
I am listening to this song sang by all the wonderful women who took the lead on the musical. But Sara is the QUEEN 👑
agreed!
I’ve met Sara and gavin yesterday. They’re literally the nicest people on earth
The chit chat following her performance seems to almost trivialize the significance of her talent. Sara is such an amazing vocalist it almost seems silly for her to sit and chat with mere mortals after she has graced us with her beauty and talent. She is beyond amazing.
"Mere mortals" you're joking right?
@@RandomPlayIist obviously, if you have the capacity to grasp it, this is hyperbole. But I look forward to seeing your performance demonstrating your talents... unless you just talk, in which case please spare me.
What an amazing performance, and how refreshing to have a respectful audience not whooping and hollering during every high note. Loved it
If you liked this please go check out the full version, the lyrics have been cut down here for time. It is an absolutely mesmerizing song, and even more meaningful when hear the full thing
I was lucky enough to see her in The Waitress today. She’s phenomenal.
I was skeptical when i heard they are making a broadway version of the Waitress then went all the way to being giddy when they announced Sarah will be writing the songs. I mean she is amazing.
I still have to secretly wipe my tears when I listen to this song on bus or train
This song makes one reflect on their life, both Men & Women.
This and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. I would love to see her live
Matthew Randell I got to see her live in concert last fall. She’s unbelievable in concert. After singing SUTBM, first you could hear a pin drop then a huge standing O. Really, she can’t be captured on cd. She’s that good. ♥️
I agree with you. I would add Once Upon Another Time that she did with Ben Folds and Caroline Shaw at the Kennedy Centre - absolutely stunning!
Stunning. I normally turn off when the music section starts but not this time. Wow!
I just never ever tire of hearing her sing this beautiful song it’s so beautiful just to listen.
She can sing
She is great song writer
She can play piano , guitar and so on
She is pretty
She has good sense of humor
She is wonderful 👍👍👍👍👍
Yes she gas got everything. She's bless
How are you doing?
One of my favorite memories of my life will forever be seeing her perform this role on Broadway. I will always be grateful for that experience.
The best live singer I have ever heard. Period
Sweet Jesus mother of god.
Why am I crying now…her music is so powerful to me!
There’s perfection...then there’s Sara. Other-worldly!
She had everyone captivated!! That one gave me chills, she's just one of the best human beings out there💜💜
I came here to just watch her sing my favorite song, and now I'm transfixed and having all the feelings.all.the.feels. fuck, I'm crying. she's amazing.
The beauty of her deliverance is nearly paralyzing...Shes a rare talent and an exquisite beauty!
This is currently my favourite song. And her performance of it is mind-blowing. Incredible.
I CANNOT BELIEVE SHE ISN’T MORE POPULAR
Soooo, all of a sudden I get to the "this gives me goosebumps all over"section of CZcams?
Never heard of this musical, or her. This voice though. This voice is the definition of beauty
@Andrew Brent i like hidden gems very much
Plenty more goosebumps where they came from. Try her version of Yellow Brick Road from Atlanta. Mesmerising!
No dislikes on this video. I can understand why, Sara is amazing and this will always be one of my favourite songs
There are three now... probably 3 of the other "waitresses" going 'dang it'!
Still one of my fave songs from her 💗💗💗 My underrated Queen. She is sucessful but I still feel that more people should know about her talent. I just really love her!!
Amazing performance by Sara and beautifully shot, credit to the sound team also that dealt with the dynamics of this song.
Flawless performance. It was amazing...
She is so underrated! :(
Sylvain Hong because shes not a pop singer
I cried. It was so beautiful and mesmerising that I cried.
Love her, this song, this performance..but guys..also check out shoshana bean singing this song..her emotion in it is out of this world.
I had the privilege to see Shoshana perform it on Broadway and was just blown away! What a thrill. I go back to her any time I just need to cry it out.
This performance was incredible this is singing!
That 's what you call professional beauty !!
All of her performances are just mesmerizing. Period.
Perfection !!!!
omg so powerful
Outstanding.
this is just amazing omg 💖💧👄💧💖
I can’t stop watching this ❤️
Tears!
Oh my heart.
A masterpiece!
Speechless
Wonderful 👏👏👏👏
What I love about this song - Sara wrote it in such a way that each Jenna can entirely make it their own for their range & style. Everyone sings it differently & every version is beautiful ❤️
EMOTIONAL ❤
Perfection.
