- Under an order from a federal judge, San Diego County released videos taken inside Las Colinas Jail in Santee of the final hours of Elisa Serna's life.
CBS 8 along with the San Diego Union-Tribune petitioned the court for release of the video as well as internal investigations and documents. On April 12, U.S. District Judge Larry A. Burns granted that request.

I notice that the statement about the staff's actions not reflecting the values of the department doesn't say anything about whether that staff all still work for the department.

Well, they literally had camera footage in her cell, but they dragged their heels when they had to release it.
It's different when they're the sickos for doing something like this. "Oh, you want the footage for an investigation within the premises? Erm... I'm not sure you're allowed that at this time. We'll contact you."
The blind leading the blind could have been worse. The staff could work in the food industry.
The staff need to be charged with 2 murders. The denied her medical care causing her death and her babies death. The parents need to fight this and deserve a HUGE settlement!
Nope., Definitely prosecute the staff for her. It is awful. What is almost equally awful, is that this badly addicted female would have destroyed this baby's chances. You have heard of Down's syndrome? Yeah, well this victim's actions would have almost guaranteed this child had no chance. ETOH Withdrawal of this severity only happens with severe and persistent abuse. The nurses were hacks. They need to lose their licensure over this. Prosecute away, for her. But not for this 5 week old embryo. I can almost guarantee they only discovered the pregnancy during autopsy. You don't really believe she took a pregnancy test after being "late" for 2 weeks. I don't. Not in this level of substance abuse. It is possible. But highly unlikely.
Incorrect when are given pregnancy test as soon as they are arrested now it is mandatory they have to see medical staff and they have give a urine sample.

So sad
Happens everyday if it was a man there been no storey. Criminals in medical distress always get ignored causing death. Just a hard fact.
The only difference, if it was a man, is that a man would be deceased and not a woman. Their gender makes no difference when it comes to the lawsuit.
This is so true. No matter how much you plead, the loss of your life will always be "whoops, oh well , shouldn't have medical issues if you are going to be accused of a crime" and if not death, lifelong injury causing disability with no recourse . And this is why people do not trust the integrity of 'justice' in our disappointingly nihilistic display of 'equality' 'fairness' and 'de incentivizing criminality '
It usually depends on how much noise the family makes, whether there are people who have looked into what has happened and care more about life than covering their colleagues’ backs. You can pretend it’s because of gender… but your comment is ironic. You said nothing about this lady’s death; you essentially ignored it to say “happens to others too so…”. Some people think all people matter; you don’t seem to be such a person.
Man cant not be pregnant and had to deal with this life and death.
What does gender have to do with it? There's many news reports about negligence towards male inmates as well.
Thank you, for finally airing this, CBS 8!
What a one-sided report. Lifestyle choices have consequences, in OR out of jail.
Those consequences don’t include death from illegal misconduct by government employees. Medical neglect in state custody can be a criminal offense depending on the circumstances (e.g., deliberate indifference) and the jurisdiction in which it occurs. Delirium tremors from alcohol withdrawal are not fatal if treated appropriately. And I say all of this as a longtime former prosecutor and judge. You sound like a presumptuous jackass who’s long on pompous sanctimony and short on reality and facts. But thanks, Karen, for your most helpful input
That doesn’t mean she doesn’t deserve basic medical care!? Some of you people are walking demons that lack empathy.

Nice…gang tats. I’m sure her being an alcoholic was great for her unborn baby. I’m sure her family is gonna cry to the media oh how she was going to do great things in life blah blah blah. What’s not mentioned is the intake medical questions that were asked of her and what did she tell the deputies. I feel bad but honestly her unborn baby was surely going to have developmental issues due to her alcoholism. Now the attorneys are going to be lined up wanting a payday. 😊
Let's just say those were gang tats and she was affiliated... well, let me not threaten you.
@@Lookiss790shut you’re corny ass up, is this you’re baby momma or something you keep defending her goofy ass.
That was full-blown medical neglect a lawsuit in itself
That’s horrible 😢all the stuff should held accountable for this
Nothing of value lost.
And?
Don't do drugs - don't steal!
Problem solved!
BINGO 😂😂😂
"He without sin cask the first stone."
hypocrite much?
Simple fact some never understand.
How a society treats its citizens, be they young, old, disabled or incarcerated, is a reflection of its own soul. Nothing to be proud of here. We can all do better than this tragedy.
The staff should be fired or better yet imprisoned for not helping a person who clearly needed help. Very sickening to have watched how some people just wont care when you are dying.
She put herself in that situation, Noone else to blame but herself.
No one said that she's innocently jailed, don't just comment because you can, you don't have to do what she did to end up in jail in a blink of an eye, your life can turn around and change even without you being at fault, you're not an exception of anything bad happening and being jailed!
Their actions are no one to blame but theirs!
They have a job that we pay for yet they don't do their job!
Heartless stance there emily jane. Cruelty shows itself once again.
You are a heartless person. U know you dont know anything about her and her upbringing. She could of be abused from a young age, anything,u dont know, what caused her life to turn out this way. You should never judge when u have no clue. She didnt deserve to die.
@@sweetkitty511 A lack of compassion and poor perception on behalf of these people. I've met plenty that threaten people with handcuffs but would rarely last a few minutes with them on without breaking out in tears and having a panic attack even. People act tough under false pretenses and wonder how they would act in a jail setting as they act tough behind their pcs.
Correct. Simple fact, don’t do drugs and don’t steal and you won’t have problems this. But Blaming others, like most of the replies to the comment, is also part of the reason she ended up like that, Enablers.
