  • For today's unboxing review we bring you the 2016 Buick Verano, a premium compact sedan that's also a great bargain. First launched for the 2012 model year, the Verano has had only a few slight changes over the years, but it helped Buick get back on track in the wake of GM's bankruptcy. At the time of its debut, it was the right car at the right time. However, the Verano will soon be discontinued without a direct successor. It's not because the Verano is a bad car, but because buyers today are more interested in crossovers than sedans. Consider the Verano a victim of the Encore, in a way. But there's still a lot to like about the Verano, especially its very nice interior.
    Power comes from a decent but not great 2.4-liter four-cylinder with 180 hp and 171 lb-ft of torque (the optional 2.0 turbo four with 250 ponies has been dropped). Power goes to the front wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission. Our mid-range Sport Touring tester was nicely equipped, especially given its $25,385 price. Do a quick comparison and you'll see that's several thousand dollars less than, say, the Acura ILX, which is this car's most direct competitor. Combined with a 5-star overall US government crash test rating, the Verano is a solid buy. Enjoy the review!

    I'm actually looking at a used model of this to buy right now. It only has 20,000 mile's on it, one owner and mint condition w/ full warranty for under 14,000.00. I'm a sedan girl myself and we've had many Buicks. They've never let us down honestly. I'll probably buy it :) I rarely have anyone in the backseat as we are empty nester's now so room is not an issue for us.

      @@eddie-nc8gu I bought a Sport T model last year , white with grey interior, has navigation, heated seats runs on reg gas, no turbo, but took it on 3 trips, live in NorCal and drove to Yosemite , Palm Springs, Southern Oregon 3 different trips never had a issue over mountains . I like the fact I have a key and I like the buttons, was looking for a Cadillac ATS and couldn't find one with low miles in my price range so I started looking at Verano's and found this one at a local used car dealer with 20K on it and on special for $14,495. So far I have put 10K on it this last year, its a nice car, Im happy with it.

      Califdad just bought one yesterday 20k miles turbo. Went through the manual and the turbo required premium gasoline. No biggie. Just wanted what was best for the car. My only complaint is the stereo is a little out of my reach. Other then that it’s a great ride!! Traded in the Altima.

    Down fall about crossovers though is that they are getting smaller, which is a contradiction to auto manufacturers marketing strategy. Crossovers are getting smaller as well as the engines. I think in the future crossovers will diminsh and sedans will return. Crossover will keep getting smaller to the point you will almost miss the space in the sedan,

      Sorry, I didn't realize I had replies to my comment until today. I still have the Verano. I am happy with it. I haven't had one issue with it so far. I think I paid around $25k for it, which was $8k below the MSRP. The turbo has 250hp and the non-turbo has 180hp. I haven't driven a non-turbo, but the turbo is supposed to be quite a bit more powerful and quiet versus the regular version.

      I have a friend with an MA in mechanical engineering. He told me the most important things you can do to prevent expensive repairs with any vehicle, is frequent oil changes and premium gas. Those two things continually run through the machine at high heats. It's like good nutrition and exercise keeping us healthy.

    It’s really a premium model, as opposed to luxury, there's a 2nd gen Verano, already on sale in China, funny Acura will continue to sale the ILX and Mercedes is supposedly working on adding an A Class sedan to the CLA, GLA and other A Class models in the lineup, thus give Mercedes 2 subcompact/compact fwd model sedans, it's rumored to be slightly larger than the CLA, guessing a more tradition sedan vs the CLA coupe profile, Buick saw a way to make more money, not mad at them, just look at the starting price for the Verano ($21,065) vs the Envision ($34,065), note the Envision is a fwd compact CUV based off the new gen Cruze (and China Verano) platform, they could offer it if they really wanted too, Chevy offers the new gen Cruze and have the upcoming Equinox both on the same platform, Chevy also offers the Malibu and Cruze, there's room for Buick too offer both the next gen Verano and Regal, yes, a great number of customers want CUVs/SUVs, but there are still customers that want sedan, go figure

    • @slim404
      @slim404 Před 3 lety

      Yes still eager customers but not enough to affect Buick/China's bottom line. As mentioned no one really considers the Buick a luxury class say like Cadillac or the foreign luxury cars. IDC bc that means I pay a lot less all the way around and still get that "luxury" experience. Trust me when you wreck that caddy the luxury goes out the window!
