- Emma Stone explains to 'The Hollywood Reporter' why she would prefer to be called by her birth name, Emily. The 'Poor Things' star says her stage name is Emma, because there was already an 'Emily Stone' in the Screen Actors Guild at the start of her Hollywood career. The Oscar winner has previously said her name was also inspired by Emma Bunton, a.k.a. Baby Spice, of the Spice Girls.

I mean stage names are quiet common and if someone already goes by that in the SAG you can't have 2 people with the same name unless it has an identifying marker like Michael B. Jordan and Michael Jordan. That's obvious. I didn't know she had a baby

@@annajordan243 It's not the wrong name, Emma Stone is her stage name. You can call her whatever name you want, but you can't make other people. A lot of actors have stage names, it's perfectly normal. Just like Anne Hathaway's friends only call her Annie, but her fans call her Anne.
Anne Hathaway is also the name of Shakespeare's wife
What was the point of the Anne Hathaway part? Her first name is Anne. Is she implying she should have chosen her middle name, Jacqueline? It wasn't clear.

Maybe it's a mom thing. Mine does it too: only calls me by my given name when she's mad. It's kinda handy though. This way you know when to duck for cover or get gone asap..

Emma Stone is so established, 2 time Oscar winner Emma Stone has a nice ring to it you know what i mean? but yes if i ever have the pleasure of meeting her in person it's a relief to know she doesn't mind me calling her by her actual name, i love the name Emily.

ET, this is NOT A STORY! You're presenting this as if she held a press conference announcing a name change or something. I know virtually nothing about pop culture and famous people, and yet I've known for more than 10 years that she'd rather be called Emily Stone, her real name, rather than Emma Stone, her SAG-approved stage name.

You guys got the info wrong. She chose Emma Stone because she liked baby spice. Baby Spice's name is not Emily Stone and there was no Emily Stone in SAG that prevented her from calling herself Emily Stone.

I didn’t like my name growing up “Sidney”
because they would always say it’s a girls name so I chose to go by Sid. Then Toys Story had that demented kid named Sid and Ice age. Both awful characters growing up as a kid 😭🤣

I can't see why she couldn't use her real name I am sure there are countless other Emily Stones out there in the world and the only difference is how each they all look. We all know what Emily Stone the award winning actor looks like and I am sure if another Emily Stone came about in the film industry we would know the difference, I suppose if two Emily Stone's were up for the same award that could make that award ceremony interesting, but as Emily always seems to have some interesting happen at a award ceremony there would be nothing new there 😁
