    About Alex McLeish:
Alexander "Alex" McLeish is a name that commands respect in the world of football. From his beginnings as a tenacious defender to his evolution into a tactical football manager, McLeish's career has been a rollercoaster ride, marked by successes and setbacks.
    Early Life and Playing Career
Born on January 21, 1959, in Glasgow, Scotland, Alex McLeish grew up with a love for football. He began his professional career at Aberdeen Football Club, where he would spend the majority of his playing days. Under the guidance of legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson, McLeish formed a formidable partnership with fellow defender Willie Miller.
During his time at Aberdeen, McLeish won numerous domestic titles and European honours, including three Scottish league championships, four Scottish Cups, one Scottish League Cup, and the prestigious 1982-83 European Cup Winners' Cup. After more than a decade with Aberdeen, McLeish moved to Motherwell, where he played for two seasons before retiring in 1994.
    Transition to Management
Following his retirement as a player, McLeish made a seamless transition into management. He took up the role of player-manager at Motherwell before moving on to manage Hibernian. In his time with Hibs, McLeish showed his tactical acumen and ability to develop young talent, leading the club to a third-place finish in the Scottish Premier League in the 2000-01 season.
    Rising through the Ranks
McLeish's impressive work at Hibernian caught the attention of Scottish giants Rangers, and he was appointed as their manager in December 2001. In his first season at the helm, McLeish guided Rangers to a domestic treble, winning the Scottish Premier League, Scottish Cup, and Scottish League Cup. He would go on to secure another league title and two more League Cups during his tenure with Rangers.
McLeish's success in Scotland led to him being appointed as the manager of the Scottish national team in January 2007. While his time with the national team was brief, he managed to secure a memorable victory over France in a Euro 2008 qualifier, showcasing his tactical prowess on the international stage.
    English Club Management and Beyond
In November 2007, McLeish made the move to England, taking over as manager of Birmingham City. He led the team to promotion to the Premier League in his first season and, against all odds, secured the club's first major trophy in 48 years by winning the 2011 Football League Cup. However, despite this success, Birmingham was relegated the same season, and McLeish eventually moved on to Aston Villa.
McLeish's time at Villa was marred by poor results and fan discontent, and he was dismissed after just one season. He later managed clubs such as Nottingham Forest, Genk (Belgium), and Zamalek (Egypt), with varying degrees of success. In February 2018, McLeish returned to manage the Scottish national team for a second time, but his second stint was short-lived, ending in April 2019.
    Legacy
Alex McLeish's career as both a footballer and a manager is a testament to his resilience, determination, and passion for the game. From his glory days at Aberdeen to his managerial triumphs with Rangers and Birmingham City, McLeish's name will forever be etched in the annals of football history.

Great to hear these stories, I think Aberdeen will probably go down as one of the greatest footballing stories of all time, they probably had the whole of Britain wanting them to win which must be a one off.

Sorry missed this prog , was busy but ye McLeish was a top class cdefender ..Is someone like he was i feel strongly today Celtic need a guy who won his high balls in his own box and defended well and scored odd goals also ..Im a big Billy McNeill fan and several others i can mention who could have done a great job in todays Celtic defence which lacks with high balls into box and Joe Hart needs replaced at Celtic today as never comed out of his box for high balls in knowing we are weak there .
I dont go by stats in todays Spl as other teams dont attack much ..As most older fans know other teams like Aberdeen , Hibs , Hearts and Motherwells of Spl are not the teams of way back in 70s and 80s ..Top side Aberdeen in Alex McLeish days and top centre back he was also as said ..

@@larrydavid6852 Aye, but when you see the team we had, we should of been winning European trophies.

@@larrydavid6852 No way Larry 2nd best in Scotland maybe aye
As Celtic with Lisbon Lions stands tallest an all Scottish side who became Kings of Europe with very first team from UK shores to win the big cup the European cup in 67 ' and became the first non Latin side to win it ..and very first winners of the cup
known as BigLugs from the UK and this was Celtic who were first ever winners
as year before the old style European cup was a white jug like cup was won
by Real Madrid the year before ..Celtic first EVER winners of big lugs .

@@DavidGemmell-vz7in yes and that's a great achievement too - but a provincial club beating Bayern and Real Madrid to win a European trophy edges it for me. Also, football wasn't fully modernized in the 1960's, all sorts of strange things were happening, like England winning world cups. But yes definitely a fantastic triumph, just not quite as good as AFC when you weigh-up all the factors involved.

@@larrydavid6852 Mon noo Larry min yourr obviosly an Aberdeen fan or rangers fan saying such
as it does not compare with the big cup and Celtic done such a feat with an Entire all Scottish team which celtic did and in fact all from within a 30 mile radius of Glasgow and was one player from just within that was from Saltcoats in Ayrshire furthest away guy Bobby Lennox .The Big Cup and dont forget just lost out on the 1970 European cup final in extra time v Feyenoord this after winning v Englands best then team leeds in semis home and away .
First team from British shores to win a European trophy and the biggy was Celtic no matter how your trying to compare ..I agree Aberdeens win was very good also and i felt the heavy rain aided them that day and in a way not to same extent as \Lisbon Lions side but Aberdeen side also many were reared and were a top side them days
Today Celtic fc do not have any competition 12 yrs winning Spl title from 13 yrs tells u such and thing is only can get better whereas others are also rans sadly unlike them days with Aberdeen and u had Dundee Utd also a very good side them days who just lost out in a European final to Gothenburg of Sweden .
