- After a long week of working partial days and nights, I completed a marathon amount of work to get Melly's bike back together and on the road. The freshly powder coated wheels (Ironstone Bronze hammered finish) with new AllBalls wheel bearings & seals, new tires & tubes, new rim strips are all put together. The new tachometer and LED indicators along with solid state relay is also installed and working great. Sorted the wiring harness out by making new battery cables.
We rode 77 miles on Saturday with no issues. Barney was running great. Then Sunday evening after 6 miles, the little Rebel decided to blow it's crankshaft oil seal and puke oil everywhere. This is apparently a regular issue on the CMX250's from time to time. So we have some footage of Melly taking the stator cover off getting ready for when the new parts come in. Luckily, no damage to the engine.
Cheers!

Golden video as if we're back in time
i already watched all videos you guys did to repair and put back in shape the rebel. I just loved the way you supported her, and explained all things about engine and motorcycle. keep up doing more videos. u have one more fan subscribed xo
Awesome sunny day brother, and fixing your own ride is what makes you a biker...not the miles you have under it, or the badge you wear... What a grand day out.. ! Ride safe you two.. D&P.x
Them 250 motorcycles are just awesome all around. I got a VStar 650 but my first motorcycle experience was with a 2002 Yamaha Virago 250. I always get the comments when I talk about loving 250cc bikes is, "Those are for women." Last guy that said that to me I countered his remark with, "Really, what do you ride?". He said he doesn't have a bike. Good stuff.
Back on nights again..we spoke about this and the body clock gets written off.....try 9 years of it ..lol
You have done the bike and that lovely wife of yours proud,,,looks absolutely spot on.....attention to detail and grafting yaself certainly pays big dividends......both of you ride safe and we will get to share some fine ales and english bbq grub in september...thats gonna be one hell of a weekend my friend.
Melly is an inspiration to my better half. After riding with me for 30 years she is ready to start practicing and get her own wheels. Both your bikes look real sweet.
Blown oil seal. All part of the fun. Isn't it ? Lol !
+Volgnit Told Melly she's a legit motorbiker now that she's had a break down! LOL It's very flattering for us that Melly's inspired anyone. Its a lot of fun and we spend more time together not just wrenching on Barney, but now riding too! Cheers Marty!
Mike
Great video I really enjoy watching the way y’all just have fun.!!!
Love This! You two are awesome. I too have a lady that loves doing the stuff I do. Recently bought a Softail and she is loving ridding on the back, next to get her on her own. Wish me luck hehe.
That's a thing of beauty and the bike looks nice, too! :D
First of all excuse my english. Nice videos and a great job with the little Honda. The Rebel looks very, very good.
awesome stuff bro,..the both bikes look great too!! had to giggle at the wee 250 having more noise too hehe!! ride safe yeh,...bizz
thats an awesome looking rebel! great job guys.
Thanks!
Bruce Lee
Its great to see Mel getting so involved in the repair work. Barney is really taking shape now, what a shame he blew his guts all over the place :(You need to add another camera to the shopping list Mike, and fit that to Barney so we can see the Indian as well :)
+yankee doodle Funny thing Chris, we were already talking about a 2nd camera and intercoms (that's in the future for sure). For now gotta make sure that Barney is 100% and reliable. The old Rebels getting there. Still with all the money we have put into ol' Barney, still less than 1/3rd the cost of a new Rebel and loads more fun!
Seems the CMX250's tend to pop out the oil seal on the crank fairly regularly from what I have seen on Google. So I am going to red Loctite it in place and spike-peen the edge in 8 or so spots. I'll still be able to get it out with a good deal of force, but it should never come out again on it's own just with crank case vapor pressure. IMO it's a design flaw on this particular engine. I had read it's the fault of the breather / oil separator becoming clogged. Not sure how much I believe that or not, but for Barney it will be the last time this repair is needed! Cheers!
Mike
ha ha i' m so sorry but barney sounds badass (not the bridge) i dud laugh when tgey were both sat together!!
get them pipes changed ...I apologise once again..
great stuff Mike love and best wishes to you both.
what size front tire did she put on there?
what size front and rear tire are you running? bike is awesome
Bummer about Barney but at least you can fix it easy enough.
I gotta ask where did you guys get that headlight... My rebels headlight is absolutely not safe to ride with at night
What size front tire?
Did you have any trouble installing the led front light? And which light did you use?
I own the model prior to the rebel 250, the cm250 Custom, and i also want to run led lights, at least up front.
Problem is my bike runs with a front light socket called R2, so i don't know weather to change the socket for something else, og a completely new headlight.
What did you guys do?
Cool videos (Y)
The EMGO headlight assembly came with a connector for an H4 halogen bulb. Melly's bike had a different connector. The EMGO CB750 style replacement head light's color coding of the H4 connector wires were the exact same colors as the factory Honda wiring harness. Verified that in the shop manual. So we just spliced it in. As for the brand, I don't remember but all I did was search for LED H4 Motorcycle Bulb on Amazon and there were plenty to choose from. Used the LED version of the H4 so the current draw was low. The original wiring didn't look like it could handle the full load of a standard H4 Halogen. Thanks for watching!

umm if i may ask but shouldn't you 2 be riding more stargard so as if one god for bid but if one goes down that bike doesnt take out the other?
May be a good idea to suggest to Melly to get some more safety gear, a bit more padding around the body and legs in case the bike falls over....x
i just stumbled onto you guys, hello fellow Michiganders. I just bought a 03 rebel. where did you guys get the bag on the back? looking to add to my bike for more storage.
+Cassandra Briske It's a tool roll we bought off Amazon.com, don't remember the brand. Was $99 (real leather). It's a tool roll you would normally mount to the front forks or handlebars. Once you remove the passenger seat, and the loop (have to cut that off, then you can strap the tool roll to the seat bracket. It also hides the mounting bracket. Granted you are still left with holes in the fender from the passenger seat. Mother Road Customs makes a really cool springer seat that has a matching leather pad that hides the passenger seat mount. You could still strap the tool roll to the springer bracket. Thanks for watching!
What part of the Mitten are ya from? We are in the Detroit Metro area near lake Saint Clair. Cheers!
Mike & Melly!
+Michael Rench cool thanks, I'll have to look into it, thanks for the ideas of mounting it as well. I'm up near traverse city, a bit south actually but biggest city to me for geographical purposes. :-) happy riding guys!
+Cassandra Briske Here is a CZcams video for the Mother Road Customs spring seat for the Rebel. czcams.com/video/T0EeOy1-imk/video.html
