  • After spending a night at Carson River Hot Springs, we decided to drive out to HWY89 by going up Barney Riley Trail.
    The Journey was a bit difficult for one Vehicle in our Convoy.

    Thank you guys for the videos. I base my weekend outings on your videos. You guys even helped us out on Hellhole when we broke down. Keep up the great videos. Thanks

    Thanks for giving us a look at this trail. I so wanted to make that turn up the hill when I was there in June. Now, I know it's passable, but not preferred.

    Awesome to see you folks do the whole loop! The trail going up from the river is a lot harder than doing it in the opposite direction.

  • @scottymac5174
    @scottymac5174 Před 6 měsíci

    Back in 2010, I did this whole loop. With my 04 Tundra. From 89 to 356. 2" lift.
    going downhill. Probably a 4.

    I miss your buddy with the Ram. He took that rig into places no Dodge RAM Extra Cab, long bed would ever go. Get Well!

    Going up has to be harder. It sucks seeing it all burned down. You used to drive through Aspen groves and green meadows.

    Thanks for the vid. I was there with a group of 6 vehicles about a week before you. A stock JK, lifted JK on 38’s, lifted gladiators, on 35’s & 37’s, Forerunner lifted on 33’s, and a ZR2 Bison on 34’s. We started on at Hwy 89 and camped at the hot spring. The trail has really taken a beating since last time I ran it a few years ago. The ruts are ridiculously deep and off-camber areas resulted in paint damage and for us with campers, accessory damage to exterior propane tanks, etc..

      I hear that, I lost all of my solar wiring and a few other things that day.

    After the fire,
    a lot more runoff. Waay more knarly than when we did it 12 years ago. That lower section used to be the easy section.

  • @theangrycamper

    I want to run this with no camper and with 35s. I feel like I would be so much more confident!!

    That Tundra needs a rear locker BAD. I might take this trail out next time I go to Carson River. When will you guys be at the hot springs next?

    Nice job, on the trail and the video production. Is this trail in CO?
    As far as ratings go, OnXOR tends to overrate the trails. That trail in typical off road ratings would probably be a 3. The ruts do not impact the ratings. Only rock size does. And a 3-rate trail has rocks which average 10"+, in the path of the tires.
    Also, that Tundra is pretty much at the max wheelbase you'd ever want to take off road. Many trails I run it would not fit, regardless of the terrain. The XJs, 3rd-gen 4runner, or 80 series (what I run) is about perfect wheelbase for technical, extreme overlanding (just-shy-of-rock-climbing capability).
    Happy Trails! Sub'd.

    I love your videos. I have a Cherokee XJ like yours but here in Germany we don't have any trails and you're not allowed to camp anywhere in nature like you can easily do. It's a shame but we can watch your videos instead.

      Thank You. Yeah i hear you, California is Trying to Adapt same crazy measures at Germany has. i hope we will not get there any time Soon.

    What time of the year was this taken? I've been thinking on going but with winter coming up, not sure if its possible to make it with snow.

    As hard as BR trail was do you think it would be easier doing it in reverse, in at 89, out at 395?

    • @4WDAdventureCrew
      @4WDAdventureCrew  Před 6 měsíci

      Going down BR would be easier but still a lot longer then from 395. It’s a fun trail to explore if you have time

    Why is your Jeep named "crew chief"? Are you ex U.S. Air Force?

    • @4WDAdventureCrew
      @4WDAdventureCrew  Před 3 měsíci

      No it’s not military reasons, it’s just a reference to old-school Jeep Cherokee Chief, and it’s always the first Rig in our adventures to is a Chief of the crew. If that makes sense.
