Thank you for posting your visit to Sembach . I showed my mom and it brought back so many memories for both of us , especially for her and those things are now becoming priceless. Happy New Year to you both 🎉🎉🎉.
@@ramonaparran7304 Thank you so much! I'm glad you two enjoyed the video and it was able to bring back some cherished memories for you! That is amazing. Happy New Year to you both, as well! 🙏
My dad was an air traffic controller there from about 1978-82 and I visited him in the control tower a couple times. I was very young when we lived there, but I still have very vivid memories.
We visited Winnweiler very briefly. I wish we would have spent more time there though. I think we just stopped there on the way north. How did you like it?
I was stationed at Sembach AB from July 78-80. Loved it, hated to leave. Please do a video of Alsenze and another on Molesheim. There are lots of wineries in those villages, too.
Oh, no! We actually went back to Sembach for another two weeks and explored the area around it (have yet to edit the videos). At the time, I wish I had known about Alsenze and Molesheim because we definitely love exploring new places. I guess we have yet another reason to return to that part of Germany!
During the cold war, between the 70´s and 90´s there were a lot of heavy used US Airforce Airports in the Rhineland Palatinate Area. Sembach AB(AirBase) was one of them. For a short period of time it was the Headquarter of the Seventeenth US Air Force and some OV-10 Bronco and the famous A-10 Thunderbolt (Warthog) planes were stationed there. From 1990 Sembach AB played a big role in supporting Operation Desert Storm, but after a few years it became less and less involved (the cold war was over) and was closed down, abandoned and returned to germany in 1995. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sembach_Kaserne
Lived on the base from 85-90. The most beautiful and peaceful place to be as a child. I will forever love Germany. The comment he made to her "always a perfect angel" was sweet. However, A gentleman should never allow a lady to walk behind him with cars approaching from the rear.
That's awesome. It would be really interesting to grow up in another country. Especially somewhere as peacefully as Sembach. I didn't even think about the dangers of having her walk behind me. You're totally right! Won't happen again.
Sembach was a forward NATO base during the cold war. The tower was at the center of many exercises and "attacks" from our NATO allies, as well as some awesome airshows with Harriers and the Red Arrows.
My family would be there every Sunday. Remember the football games at the field built into the side of the hill. Those were the days . The best childhood a kid could have , roaming the hills and in the winter sliding down Humpty Dumpty hill .
The real story of historyis when you come across old Germanic ring walls in the woods or my favorite place on the edge of the forest, in front of my town in Westphalia, is an old stone tomb from the Stone Age. 6 thousand years old :-) Or when you find old sandal nails from Roman legionaries. Here in Westphalia the battles took place between the Romans and the Germans and the loss of 3 Roman legions
Only one way in & out. The Other side of what used to be Air Force, is now an industrial area. And a big trash collecting area. Used to work at the gasst u had to pass at the Sembach Army gate.
@@that_one_traveler There are also newer models, that take any card or paying via phone app, but the ones in the street somewhere don't have that necessarily. I mean, you can see it wasn't designed for this, because the card reader is mounted on, not integrated fully. ^^
@@Kivas_Fajo Oh, yes, absolutely. And I'm assuming somebody could find these in the bigger cities as well? I've been to many big cities in Germany but I don't remember seeing them around. Granted, I wasn't looking for them. But I always thought it was a small town thing because maybe the one or two shops in the area are closed.
lieber has nothing to do with Liebe. The saying basically translate to: Should I do it or should I better not do it. lieber = rather or better or it could also mean dear like lieber freund = dear friend
I love visiting the big popular cities but there's something about visiting small unknown villages that helps makes traveling so exciting! Just a different vibe, for sure.

That's really cool. How did you like spending 4 years growing up in another country?
Winnweiler is another beautiful village where many U.S. service-members lived off-base. I was there form '71-75.

"Do you know German?"
"Ja"
"Amazing vocabulary"
"Ja"
"And so talkative"

"Don't overdo it know..."

Did some Drag Racing there in the AIr Base on Sundays back in the day.
Really? That sounds awesome.

The Tower is private property. It's partially used as storage room.
Oh, interesting. Do you know what is stored there?
@@that_one_traveler Not exactly the owner is a printer company named orgaplan. The tower is also part of the logo
@@michaelblodow7779 I had no idea. I thought it was completely abandoned. Thanks for the information!

That's fascinating! I need to explore Westphalia more. I've only visited Cologne and it was just for a day.
