I am watching your American Redstart painting again before starting on the male & female Goldfinch pairs. I love the feathers on top on the birds head,their mantles, and branches in the center that bring the painting together. You are a great teacher,David, and your reference photos are😊 wonderful to refer to in your book on painting birds.
This painting is really special! Makes one think back to simpler times. My husband said "WOW" then he told me about the good times he had eating and throwing crabapples at his brothers😮🤗. Boys...I can imagine all the trouble they got into😁. 😊

So beautiful. I would love to see you paint some wild violets, especially the white ones with the Violet veins through the petals. We have lots of them growing now all over the place. I always like to pick a few and put in a tiny vase.

Today I followed your instructions, but still no perfect, but I fixed and I think is not to bad, still learning with you, and really even that is not perfect I like it, I'm doing a little better, before I draw birds but in black pen with dots, afraid to put colors, now I am using colors and I really surprise myself, thanks to you, now I can mix them, thank you very much, like I said before I love your technics,

Brilliant! I do paint myself, but cannot get myself to paint Alla Prima style, therefore my acrylics look too precise. Love your birds using this method, especially the backgrounds! Do you think the Heritage Acrylics are the best for this. I use Sennelier abstract or Liquitex, and they seem to dry up too quickly.
They dry faster than Heritage. I only use Heritage.
Thank you for another great tutorial, you are the very best. Question, how much extender do you add to your / paint/ portion cups ?
I start them with about 20%. I leave the lid off for a couple days stirring every 8 hours. This is so the water can leave and give a longer drying time.

Wonderful lesson. I love painting birds but take much longer to work in acrylic than you do. It's interesting to paint a pair in the same frame. As I watched your tutorial, a night bird was singing outside; so relaxing...Great mentorship! I'm a new subscriber

David, I have watched so many of your video’s. I understand that the heritage paint and fusion brushes are key to your technique. However, as one who is not able to obtain those supplies at this time, are there any of your lessons that can be painted using different paint and brushes?
Hi Candy, You can paint any lessons. Just do what you can and enjoy it. Each painting you learn some which helps you improve on your artistic journey. I have many followers who paint in all types of media. Just try and learn what you can. You can do it!
What kind of acrylic paint are you using and what are you mixing with them to get the paint to spend so nice
I use Heritage Acrylics. Links are in the video descriptions. I add the Heritage Extender Medium.
Hi David these birds so beautiful. Your a great artist. I would like to ask what’s the secret to getting thick paint? I can’t seem to find it. Lot of tube paints say they are but really still thin causing to go over many times.
Have to use the right paints. Some are made thinner (flow) while others like Heritage are made for you to control the thickness. You can't really make flow acrylics thick enough for most of the techniques I do here.

We are really trying. The only way right now is Amazon and they are so difficult with an enormous amount or rules. We are trying.
Hi David love your painting you are talented gifted soul thank you for your work sharing teaching, is that painting surface you are useing is a paper or canvas it is so smooth not hash like canvas would like to know: it is very hard to paint bird or flowers on canvas it is not smooth like: thank you so much:

I use a board instead of canvas because of the details in the birds. It is difficult to add small details when you have a canvas weave.
