    What it came down to was they were running out of good myths to test. After doing something as long as they have, you're bound to be scraping the bottom of the barrel in terms of ideas. Adam, Jamie, Grant, Tori, and Kari all did their part to make the show special and they should be proud of what they accomplished together.

    Here's the thing, I don't hang out with my fellow employees either. That's not because I hate them, but because, outside of work, we don't have anything in common. This idea that people should be friends outside of work is weird, and nothing about Jaime or Adam's public statements indicate they hate each other. They're work colleagues. Jesus.

      Professionally cordial is what it is. Just bc you aren't friends with someone doesn't mean you hate them.
      Adam and Jamie are professionals with a lot of mutual respect that worked well as a team, but that doesn't mean they should be having a BBQ every month and hang out in their free time and be friends just bc they worked on the same project.
      They have their own stuff going on, they have their own interests, friends, families, etc. and there is nothing wrong with that.

    • @n-steam
      @n-steam Před 7 měsíci +45

      There's interviews with Adam out there outright stating they didn't like each other, argued frequently, and didn't really want to be around each other much.
      He pointed out that there are numerous episodes where they had some big disagreements, where they'd both go and do their own thing. Whether that means to each produce different things to do the same task, or working on two halves of the same thing. They got on each others nerves when working together too much.
      It was a clash of personalities, both having a different vision and wanting to do it their way.
      Though 'hate' is probably too strong a word.

      Yeah thats uh, thats a definite oof. Don't mean to talk shit, maybe it wasn't her intention, but if thats true she was basically just leveraging how she was born against her own friends' careers and opportunities.
      (Particularly bad since, well, the show runners were clearly fucking right if thats the case; this very video allocates a pretty substantial section to how it's extra bad she got fired. Can you imagine if *_only_* she got fired *_and_* there was clearly bad blood publicly between her and the producers? It's not like she couldn't have said "if you don't renew my contract I'll publicly state that it was just a pay disagreement and nothing else" or something, meaning intentionally or not she was basically saying "either you renew my contract at the rate I say, you fire me and my friends, or you look like you fired me because I'm a woman". Again, it's basically leveraging your own incidental characteristics against your own friends' careers. Its the explosive coat of contract negotiation.)

    I don't know why so many people interpret Adam and Jamies lack of friendship to be that they 'hated' each other. They both stated they don't, and that they work really well together. They just were not friends and neither of them wanted anything other than a purely professional relationship. Its very admirable to set those boundaries and still work that closely.

      in my opinion, Mythbusters was pivotal for the rise of these really popular CZcams STEM and other educational content creator brands like VSauce, Smarter Everyday, Veritasium, The Backyard Scientist, Everyday Astronaut, Mark Rober, Xyla Foxlin, etc. (their viewership and subscription base are some of the largest in the platform), and even creative production channels like The SlowMo guys, How Ridiculous, etc.
      heck, I’ll even throw in popular flat earth debunker creators like SciManDan, FTFE, Creaky Blinder, Dave McKeegan, Reds Rhetoric, MCToon, Conspiracy Catz, Professor Stick, and many others like them…
      these content creator channels, and many others like them were the real spiritual successors to Mythbusters, not only in format (which a lot of them have similarities), but also, in premise, and the entire mission of it, bringing science to the masses, in the most understandable, and frankly, entertaining ways possible…
      the OG show may have been on the yesteryears already, but I’m sure glad these content creators picked up the torch and kept it burning well

      I think "the search" gets ignored because everyone kind of knows it was time for mythbusters to end, and "the search" was a pretty blatant cash grab attempt to keep it going past its expiry date at a lower cost.
      I don't blame any of the host contestants, I would absolutely jump at the chance to be an official 'mythbuster', but it was time to end. And Adam and Jamie WERE the mythbusters. People maybe would have accepted the build team replacing them, but other than that no one was going to really accept "new" mythbusters.

    I find it remarkable that Adam and Jamie could keep their relationship sheerly professional. I worked with people that I didn’t like (and vice versa) but there always came a time that it was enough. Never calling out the other as a reason because those people I butted heads with the most were some of the most genius engineers that I respect and most even recognize as a superior expert in our overlapping fields. But often you want a deeper kenship when you are in the trenches. You want that warm living feeling and not just that business professional approach.

    There were also a lot of legal/liability issues that were getting worse. The Mythbusters did not take enough precautions, nor did they do enough calculations beforehand. Another was the coffee creamer burn which was far larger than predicted.

    I have never understood why people are shocked that Adam and Jamie aren't friends. How many colleagues are you friends with outside work? That's very rare in most workplaces as your coworkers are people you have to be around. You try to be cordial and relaxed, but in the end you don't choose to be around them after work. The build team did have great chemistry and Tory and Kerri developed an interesting "work spouse" dynamic it still was a workplace only relationship between the three of them.

    Like when Storage Wars was big there were spin off series (Texas, Miami, New York, Canada) but also competing shows (Auction Hunters, Container Wars, Storage Hunters, Baggage Battles, etc) but now with CZcams there are loads of channels about people buying storage units, shipping containers, unclaimed luggage, estate auctions, etc... maybe Mythbusters didn't have as much YT compeition but there are a few channels out there that do similar stuff

I think Adam's scattered and 'wtf, let's try this' attitude conflicted heavily with Jamie. Adam is a extravert, and Jamie a major introvert. It was a testimony to both of their professionalism that they worked together for so many years.

    • @crowtservo
      @crowtservo Před 7 měsíci +1

      I think that’s a bit of an exaggeration. Penn has said that when they first started, it was a professional relationship, they weren’t friends first who decided to work together but instead they realized that they could work together and do it well and they ended up building a friendship over the decades. He says since they weren’t friends first, there was no emotional baggage in that working relationship. They have become best friends but in general outside their magic show, they have almost nothing in common. I’m sure that separation outside work keeps them levelheaded about their work.

    I have to agree with Adam Savage's comment that "it seems like a proper place to put it to bed." When ratings are starting the inevitable decline that they all do, and the stars have big contracts, the return on the network's investment isn't high enough to make sense anymore. This is what usually causes shows that have a strong fan base to either "kill off" key actors or cancel the show entirely.
