- Anna Paquin, Holliday Grainger and Director Annabel Jankel on Tell It to the Bees
One of the many films to world premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival was director Annabel Jankel’s (Skellig, Live from Abbey Road) drama Tell It to the Bees. Based on Fiona Shaw’s novel of the same name, the film is about a small-town doctor and beekeeper (Anna Paquin) in 1950’s Britain who befriends a struggling mother (Holliday Grainger) and son (Gregor Selkirk), helping them discover that love can be found in many forms. Tell It to the Bees was written by Henrietta and Jessica Ashworth.
Shortly after seeing the film, I got to speak with Paquin, Grainger and Jankel at the Collider Studio. During the interview, the three talked about what it meant premiering their film at TIFF, what the film is about, how rare it is to do a romance film where nobody dies, why they wanted to be part of this project, the way they like to work on set, what they learned from early screenings that impacted the finished product, and more. In addition, towards the end of the interview they played “Get to Know Your TIFF Attendee”, which includes questions like what TV show they would love to guest-spot on, their favorite sci-fi or fantasy film, what is the background on their phone, what movie have they watched more than 20 times, and if they own any movie or TV show props.

I have never heard of Holliday until this movie. Great actress and such a beauty! 😍😍😍
Watch The Borgias
I really enjoyed the movie. Scenes with bees were amazing and also the chemistry between the two lead actors was strong. It deserves recognition from wider audience and perhaps an award. ;)
Anna is so cute and funny, I love her personality. Holliday is super cute too. This made me fall in love with the movie even more
_Honestly this is one of my fave festival films, which i've watched many times but i still like it. it's perfect overall. the actress actors location and everything, i love it! such a GREAT film. it's about love romantic sexy aesthetic gorgeous sad. really cool!!!_
Holliday is so cute.. OHHMYYGOOOSSH! 😅😅
Holliday Grainger is such an underrated actress. I've never seen her give a bad performance.
My favorite movie. I love them!!
Wish it would have been exactly like Fiona Shaw wrote it, that’s the reason why Carol was so grand. BUT still, seeing Lydia and Jean is worth it!
I liked the way they did it. I actually liked it a lot more than Carol but like apples and oranges really...quite different themes.
DB Cooper I like this book more than carol. But it’s just one of my pet peeves, when directors change books that already have been written. Ya know? Like, why change the ending? Jeans character was my favorite in the book BECAUSE she fought so hard to stay with Lydia. And she stood her ground. They both did. And in the book they went through struggles, they were unavoidable!!! But they fought to stay together N they did.
Having studied page to screen adaptation I really appreciated every choice they made but I can understand those who would expect the film to be exactly like the novel. It probably caught you by surprise if you were excited to see that so I totally respect your perspective. The thing is, now we get to visit two outcomes! I think it should be celebrated alongside the novel; they're both gut-wrenching and romantic and full of hope. “ヽ(´▽`)ノ” It was also a magical experience feeling the audience react in synchronization. When did you see it?
DB Cooper that’s a nice positive way to see it. I’m actually waiting for it to come to the US.
LOL oh definitely watch it before you decide you don’t like it then. Excited for you to see it!!!
The movie is great and beautiful
I love that Anna gave X-men a shout out. 😁
I just watched the movie. I love it..
Holliday is an amazing actress!!! Anna is young. Watch Borgias which shows what a brilliant actress Holliday is
I wish they stayed together in the film 😭😭😭😭
Me too. I understand the story is about the change in the characters but I'm so tired of gay women movies getting gyped at the end by either dying or not ending up together. I have to hurry up and become a film director!
Yeah, Thanks a lot for the spoiler.
Ótimo filme
Mudaram o final do filme, no livro elas vão p Itália,
Final frustante 😪
The film was beautiful! Along with Anna and Holliday! Two beautiful women strong powerful love! The end could have had a few different endings!! How about a sequel!! Lydia got bad end of the deal!! They could have met years later realistically!
Love this move. The ending was horrible but it’s my favorite film
Carol is the best movie
Positive ending? I think the ending is super sad
Where can I get to see the full movie?Love Anna P.
Margie Garcia youtube has it
If you have a public library card, check the Kanopy site on line. I saw it as a loan through that.
