0:38 how personality develops in people:::
People have free will: self actualisation 1:04
    Freuds theory was humanistic 1:18
Humanistic theory focuses on conscious not the unconscious
We are good and are always motivated to improve 1:49
    FOR EXAMPLE:
    Maslow heiargy of needs 2:11
Physiological needs first, and then safety, esteem
characteristics of self actualising people 2:56
    - think broader for larger causes
    - maslow thinks only 1% reach self actualising.
    3:47 carl rogers
Used mas ideas, self actualisation is developed in a growth promoting climate. 2 conditions need to be met.
One need to be open and revealing about themselves
One need to be accepted from others, genuine regard and unconditional acceptance.
True self, is reached when it isnt bounded by ingenuine conditons 5:50
    Self concept 6:02

Been majoring in Psych for two years now and there are several videos that can explain these concepts and theories of personality better. I personally get a little confused about where she is going with the material even though I am familiar with the material. Maybe it is the note-taking on the screen that makes it so confusing. Hopefully constructive criticism and not judgmental as that was not the intention.

Huh, interesting how rare self-actualization is. Wonder if that points to a systemic failure to nurture humans in a growth promoting climate by telling them to compete with each other and maintain an 'excellent' minority. Wonder if that rarity of self-actualization has us stuck in a violent and inefficient human society. Wonder if there's anything we can do, khan academy, about it?

    • @emmajohnson6885
      @emmajohnson6885 Před 4 lety

I know you wrote this a year ago, but I was just thinking about it myself the other day. We seems to live in a very hierarchical society where only few reach the top of self-actualisation. Like you say, it may be that the system we have built and feed into is one which purposefully blocks organic human growth. However, I’m also not sure if the world would be a better place if self-actualisation was the common state of mind. If we stopped competing and just stayed in our own lanes towards our own goals, I suppose the feeling of success may be less invigorating. Personally, seeing others who have pursued their vocation, pushes me to work harder to fulfil my own aspirations. What are your thoughts on this?

Do you think that someone made your house, even though you have never seen them? The house is the evidence of the builder. Same with this universe. It had a beginning, therefore it had to have a cause. And that cause, is God. This universe could not have created itself.
So do you think God cares about how we live? If He has given us morality so that we have set up a system of law with courts and judges, how much more would the supreme ruler of the universe demand justice?
Have you ever lied, stolen the smallest thing or thought a rude thought? If these were the things God would judge us by, would He find us innocent or guilty? The answer? Guilty. Sinning against an infinite authority figure brings infinite punishment. Hell.
So how can we stop going to hell? Does doing good deeds take away our sins? If I get a speeding ticket in the morning, then do 5 good things, should the judge let me go free? No, the fine has to be paid.
What about asking for forgiveness? If a criminal stands before a judge and says, I'm really sorry... Should the judge let him go free? No, because that would be a bad judge. If he forgave every criminal because he loved them, that would not be doing justice. Justice has to be paid. God is merciful, but not so at the expense of justice.
The only way we can go to heaven is if someone pays our hell punishment for us. Jesus lived a perfect sinless life and then took all of God's wrath for our sins upon Himself on the cross. Since Jesus paid 100% of our sins, there is none left for us to pay. Our punishment has been paid and we get off free. Justice has been paid and Gods mercy has been
    upheld.
Our good deeds don't save us. Nor do they contribute anything to our salvation. Jesus paid it all. Just acknowledge your sins, and accept this gift of Jesus Christ to go to
    heaven.
To learn more about God. Read the Bible. It's available free online. Read the gospel of John first.

That makes no absolute sense at all if everyone is different. There is no actual way to determine if one man needs all those steps completed, or if he doesn't. Or, if he has made it to self actualization if he would focus on the same things as the next man that has as well. Very close minded.
