  • On paper the MOFI Studio Deck Foundation was everything I didn't like about a table cosmetically. But I ordered it anyway. Did MOFI change my mind on how I look at turntables? Stay Tuned to find out!
    ▶About the MOFI Sudiodeck Foundation
Accuracy has been a Mobile Fidelity hallmark since its inception and is exactly what guides the StudioDeck Foundation belt-drive turntable, developed to serve as the core for any analog chain and deliver precisely just what the artist captured in the recording studio. Hand-crafted at an in-house factory in the U.S.A., complete with a MoFi StudioTracker MM phono cartridge, designed in collaboration between Mobile Fidelity engineers and turntable expert/Spiral Groove founder Allen Perkins, and made to accurately present the vast sonic pictures present on vinyl LPs, StudioDeck Foundation permanently changes the expectations of high-end performance previously attainable at its price point.
Ready to go minutes after unboxing, the ultra-sturdy 19.1-pound 'table comes loaded with advanced technology, user-friendly features, and unflappable design elements to ensure phenomenal analog playback - ultimately bringing the sound of the Mobile Fidelity Sebastopol, California studio into your home. With StudioDeck Foundation, faithful-to-the-source detail, immersive soundstaging, organic warmth, and clarity become part of each listening experience.
Like all Mobile Fidelity products, every piece on StudioDeck Foundation derives from tireless experimentation, meticulous evaluation, and listening tests. All parts and materials are chosen and developed strictly on the basis of their sonic benefits. Mobile Fidelity's meticulous oversight of every detail begins with a 3.88-pound, 0.75-inch platter comprised of Delrin, a high-strength, low-friction polymer selected because its highly crystalline structure makes for a great impedance match with vinyl and grounds unwanted noise. Similarly, and acting in concert with cutting-edge dampening matter, the Delrin pulley - which comes with positions for 33 1/3 and 45RPM speeds - keeps motor vibrations away from the platter and stylus. Speaking of the motor: StudioDeck Foundation's 300RPM isolated AC synchronous type delivers excellent speed stability for stellar pitch accuracy and rhythmic drive.
The sound-first fundamentals extend to the custom-developed Studio tonearm, a 10-inch straight aluminum gimbaled bearing design whose rigidity and tracking prowess translate into accurate information retrieval. Its adjustable tracking force, VTA, azimuth, and enhanced anti-skate grant you profound options for tweaks and adjustments. And there's more. A steel and Teflon inverted bearing system provides StudioDeck Foundation smooth, quiet playback stability. Everything about StudioDeck Foundation, down to its use of ester-based bearing grease for quiet operation, relates to preserving and playing back the actual sound on your LPs. It's why Mobile Fidelity equips StudioDeck with high-quality gold-plated connectors shielded by a copper foil box to prevent airborne RF noise.
Control That Extends from the Mastering Studio to the Factory to Your Home
Prestige doesn't come easy - or cheap. To meet all its specific needs and demands, Mobile Fidelity established a new, dedicated facility in Michigan to build the majority of its products in the USA. While an uncommon and expensive endeavor in today's audio industry, in-house manufacturing is the only way to maintain total quality control and create products that live up to the exacting standards Mobile Fidelity established over the past four decades with music releases. The approach cuts both ways, giving you the security and confidence that the Mobile Fidelity product(s) you own is built to - and built to perform at - the highest specifications.

Dude the super heavyweight champion is amazing. Seriously it pulls so much static from the record it gives u a little shock when u take it off.

  • @itswrongtokillanimalsifyou2837

Honestly, the best value upgrade is treating the room, but few know how much the sound is bottlenecked if this is not done, no matter how expensive the equipment is.
And not many realize how good MOFI is at making TTs compared to similarly priced competitors.

I have a ATLP 120 (usb) wife got me 7 years ago, I did upgrade that Stylus/Cartridge to a AT ML540. These Mofi Studio Foundations went on sale and I have one on the way (comes with the studio tracker ) Should be here next week! Man I can't wait!!!!! OH i ended up ordering the dust cover ugh! Pricey.

I still have my Denon, for over 40 years, and some 1000 LP's, which I did not play for many years in the "CD era."
Now with the retro nostalgia, my old MC cartridge is in action again, rolling in the vinyl rills.
    My advice is:
Do not take ANY turntable without at the least auto-lift at the end, and the arm level. The 1st feature will protect the needle at the end, should you forget and walk away, the 2nd will prevent that you will be ever forced to lower your needle manually to the record. I listen to classics, and there even smallest damages to the record may show very prominently.
Anyways, regarding the choice of the device sound rules of course, but automatic op is for me is a must as well. These were my 5-cents wisdom, your mileage may vary.

Ha! Verry lucky that you don't have a Transrotor like me, other wise that video would be of how to throw your chitty turntable true a window. These turntables that you use are not better than mine (Transrotor, Jelco tonearm,Ortofon Q.B.s and Zavfino cable) so my combo is more costly but it is a lot superior to that imitation of Rega witch Mofi or Ecker did and selling you at big price and are not better than a Torens td 160 or aTechnics 1200 mk2.

    BEWARE of MoFi folks...
Just a tip, if you purchase any of these MoFi decks, make sure you do not use an audiophile cord in the IEC outlet on the back of the unit. The socket is held in with screws, which go into inserts that are too fine of a thread to hold a heavy power cord. I went to move my rack and the power inlet on the back of the TT fell out. The screw inserts look like the ones I would use on aluminum, not MDF.
The threads on the inserts are ridiculously fine threaded. MDF requires a more aggressive thread, like you would find on a drywall screw. To me, this is nothing more than common sense, especially in regards to a plug socket that is going to have forces applied to it. And here is the kicker...
I contacted MoFi and they accused me of negligence and voided my warranty. I fixed using wood glue and went back to a consumer grade electronics power cord. When it fails again, I will clean what is left of the insert holes and purchase the proper inserts or simply rewire the TT. They did void my warranty.
I would look elsewhere for a TT folks, I feel like I got the shaft here. I would not trust MoFi to stand behind any of their products.
