I’m a professional horse person (no really, I ride and care for horses for a living), and I found Black Beauty more hopeful than just sad. I think if you give a chance you’ll really enjoy it. I loved it!
SARAH DESSEN WAS MY OBSESSION IN HIGH SCHOOL i'd recommend along for the ride 100% (her BEST book by far) and then saint anything, this lullaby and lock and key are the next best ones in my opinion but her books have honestly ranged from 1 stars (what happened to goodbye, someone like you) to 5 stars (along for the ride) her books have a few key elements that make them stand out like really quirky side characters and strangely specific situations

To Hailey and all readers if you look on the inside of any book or atleast most books go to the page where it has all the info about when the book was published/the isbn # and all that. You should see near the bottom of the page a little summary about the book. I always try and looks for this thanks to a kind friend of mine who told me about this and where to find it i hope that makes sense and helps you out. Also love your shirt its so pretty.

I literally just picked up The Land of Stories (from the library) for my niece to read and she is speeding through them. She adores them so I think I might buy the complete series for her for Christmas.

I love Sarah Dessen. DREAMLAND is really heavy but amazing. I DNF'ed her most recent book, ONCE AND FOR ALL, but that was a weird one because it felt like Sarah Dessen was trying to write a Sarah Dessen book. Like she just infused it with as much Dessen-ness as possible, and not in a natural way. There were some flashbacks that were also Dessen-ish, so it was a huge pile of Dessen-ception. Regardless, she's a great author.

Good choices! Along for the ride was the first Sarah Dessen book I picked up and is still my favorite. Dreamland is also one of my favorites but it has never got the same hype. It's much heavier but it really moved me and stayed with me so I usually recommend it to someone that hasn't read anything by Dessen. Hope you will love them both

While I didn't like quite a lot of Sarah Dessen's books, I remember absolutely loving Dreamland. Haven't read it in years so I'm not sure it'll stand the test of time

I read Sarah Dessen's books back in high school when I had nothing else to read; I like Along For The Ride, The Truth About Forever, What Happened To Goodbye, and Just Listen, but can't stand Dreamland. It has certain themes/messages that I don't agree with.
If you end up liking Dare Mighty Things, you might want to check out Nyxia. It was released at almost the same time, with a very similar concept. I was actually so intrigued by them that I put them in my blog post about books that should be adapted to TV before they even came out. Ultimately they were both enjoyable, with Nyxia's plot seeming a bit better constructed. My fav YA scifi though, which was also on the list, is Insignia by SJ Kincaid.
