  • PSL coach of the year Rulani Mokwena has left his post at Mamelodi
Sundowns after his first full season in sole charge of the Brazilians.
However, he has spent 10 seasons in the technical team, winning the
African Football League and three league titles in the head coach
    role.
Mokwena returned to Sundowns in 2020 as co-coach alongside Mangqoba
Ngqithi before he was promoted to head coach in October 2022, assisted
    by Mngqithi and Steve Komphela.
The reason for Mokwena's departure is unknown but there are reports of
a fallout with sporting director Flemming Berg.
Lorenz Kohler says this is devastating.

Let's see whether whoever takes over can maintain the standards Rulani has set. Before Ancelotti got a strong AC Milan squad he was struggling as a coach, but now everyone celebrates his brilliance. Same goes for Pep, people celebrate what he's able to do as a coach, his ideas & how they're translated on the field of play. What Rulani did with Sundowns was extraordinary, how his ideas were translated on to the pitch by the players & the gap he created between Sundowns & the rest of the league - RESPECT!!!

@@lebogangakani7725 I agree with you totally. People forget that Sundowns were negatively impacted by Afcon. Towards the end of the season their players were visible suffering from fatigue & this affected their performance - should we blame Rulani for how he managed the situation, definitely. He had a big squad & it was meant for such situations, but one has to wonder what could've been had this team not gone to Afcon & he kept the players fit. Let's all not forget how he dominated the North African teams in the earlier tournament his team deservedly won. Plus these were things he was going to handle better going forward. I truly believe Rulani is special & was/is probably going to have a significant impact on not just our football but how we from henceforth look at football. I just hope we don't lose him to another league...

How come a coach doesn't have input in who comes and goes at the football club but when things are not going well they are the first to be blamed. When it comes to not winning a domestic treble players also got to take responsibility, it's not Rhulani who missed penalties against Chaine in the MTN 8 final ,it's not Rhulani who's penalty was saved by Chaine in the Nedbank cup final it's the players and when it comes to CAF nobody wins but Al Ahly it's heritage somethings will never change in football, what a job he did for a young coach fantastic ❤.

When you go to work, do you implement your own ideologies? You follow standard operating procedure (S.O.P) is called ability to follow instructions. A coach can not be allowed to sign his players *only* because some players don't fit the club model whether it's finances or style

    • @khathutshelomatlou9712
      @khathutshelomatlou9712 Před dnem +2

A coach does have an input but doesn't have the final say. Getting new players and releasing old ones has to make performance and financial sense. How do you explain having Zungu(high maintenance and injury prone) and Esquivel(expensive) and not winning the league? One of the goals was for the technical director was to align development teams with the senior team. Rhulani struggled to play players from the development though they've been there for almost 2 seasons. Mbatha, Mofokeng and Mbatha were instant sensations in their first season with Pirates whilst we have youngsters in the stands. And how do you lose 2 finals to the same team? On tactical aspect, Rhulani is too rigid in his approach. He doesn't allow variation especially when faced with a low block. i think that's where the technical director had a problem with the style of play. Rhulani is good but he could be far better if he allows people to advise him. He had nothing to lose. He still had a bulk of quality players to choose from. His arrogance is his downfall.

@@khathutshelomatlou9712 I don't know what you mean but Sundowns won the league. When it comes to development players playing in the first team ,they have to work their way to playing in the first team ,no player will player just because they young, they have to play because they good enough and compete for their positions just like the rest of the players and Sundowns is probably the toughest team to breakthrough in because they sign quality players every season. When you fire a coach because they didn't win a cup then you do not know football because a Cup is different from the league anyone can win it and when you get to 2 finals in your first full season you probably going to win it the next season. Look at Pep Guardiola 9 years at Man City but one Champions League its tough. In my opinion judging a manager by not winning a cup is an unfair judgement. I believe whoever Sundowns is going to get is going to be a downgrade.

It's sad news, what is it that they didn't achieve Rulani and Mngoba?
Sun is the most decorated club. What kind of methology was used to let go a winning Coach. Being a Coach comes with vast great responsibility and when results come forth the confidence shots high nerve wrecking adrenaline and the more you dream of more success, having sleepless nights hence you allowed to question and air your views regarding your players, who should go and who shouldn't. You organise and plan it's football. You employ stratages and technicalities depending on your players' capabilities. The technical team comes in to support, advice and not blinkers becoz they're the Technical department hence partiality should prevail. Coaches sleep, eat and scrutinise each and every play. The exodus of staff leaving Sundowns says silently what behind the sences. Smoke without fire and hopefully not for personal interest. Truly one cannot let go a winning Coach, players like Zungu and Sirino with all that vast experience. Funny enough having mentioned Zungu. The Technical department got him when he was struggling nurtured him hence on a pay roll, recovered well started showing what he is made of. Winning games, those lengthy defence splitting passes that send any opposition defence in six and sevens in total confusion, you let go. Talk of Sirino. Truly what's the logic and you expect a Coach of Rulani's calibre not to question that. The man has swallowed the sweet juice of success with the players now you want to account for the players on his behave, no it doesn't work like that. Let him choose his army and let him command and advise him seat down with him listen, transparence. Yes indeed l sow it coming. It's sad. I love sports in general and understand what the coaches and players go through to win any given tournament or Cup. There are sleepless nights, the Technical personal do sleep, not the Coaches and players. I would Personal like to thank Jingles, Mnqoba and Rulani you build a Club in South Africa called Sundowns that become the Lion of South African football hence of International standards. The roaring vibrated beyond the borders of African to the World of football at a broader spectrum. Hats off gentlemen.

I knew his jig was up when he lost to Pirates, reminiscent of what had transpired in the Manqoba demotion seasons ago.
I wonder who will be taking the vacant seat.. better yet where will Rulani go?

  • @ErnestBakwali-ys2sl

Guys ! This flemingberg guy destroyed chelsea the same way that he is doing at sundowns.the coach is the one who decides who to buy. The scouting doesnt force a player to the coach.this is the beginning of the fall of sundowns mr Motsepe junior please take care before its too late flemingberg failed at chelsea its not a secret.
