Nick Wright consistently does a great job of highlighting these topics and trying to toe the line of not alienating his viewers while being an accurate and ethcial journalist/media member . Thanks for not shying away from these topics, this was in the LEAST bit controversial as it could've been.

Important to note: this is NOT political commentary. This is social commentary, speaking on the fear pervading our society and its destructive consequences. I think we need to learn that. Not everything is political. This isn’t taking a side, unless you consider keeping people (specifically children) safe a “side.” And if you believe that it is taking a side and you feel you’re on the other side… take a long, hard look in the mirror. Please.
AGREED many people struggle with differentiating SOCIAL vs Poltiical commentary. He's not pushing any greater political thought with these takes. It justs "controversial" and challenges many people's preconceived notions/biases and therefore = POLITICAL.
People try to enable their racism all kinds of ways. We live in a society where the American rich and their enablers - the entire gop and some democrats too let’s be fair - sell hate for greed.
Our entire economy is rigged to be a pyramid scheme for the ultra rich.
It’s gotten worse and worse and worse in the last 30-40 years.
The American aristocracy- the ultra rich who exploit pay the gop and places like fox “news” to spread racist propaganda to get idiotic bigots to vote against their financial interests and rig the economy against themselves and us too, in order to get racist policies and FAKE religion.
They use the “own the libs” and the “woke” boogeyman to get people drunk on hate and fear - then they gaslight us that we MUST accept it because it’s their politics - NO WE DON’T!!
I am Jewish and I grew up learning about the holocaust and what fascism can do. The German rich thought they could use Hitler the same way……they said “the socialists are coming” cause Germany was so incredibly corrupt by the rich.
We have the same thing here. We have a portion of our society being flooded with hate and propaganda. They are being sold fascism - if 1/6 didn’t wake people up I don’t know what will.

If they needed the statement from the kid, then it begs the question of what happens if the kid had died.

@@kevinc8955 giving them the benefit of the doubt, they were waiting for the victim statement because they knew the 80 year old was not a flight risk and that they had no need to rush. Not sure they deserve the benefit of the doubt, but if they were right that he was not a flight risk, I agree with not arresting him until they had all of the details possible.
Nick, I'm honestly scared of the Supreme Court injustices.

I had not heard about a lot of this and it was tough to listen to. Nick is right that we are angry and scared as a people

That's a nice saying but people don't actually believe that. A lot of people that cry about injustice couldn't care less when it happens outside the U.S.
There’s also just a gross cultural thing where many people want an excuse to shoot others. I was interning with a charity and a group of teenagers from a nearby rural area came in, and one of their leaders actually started the discussion saying that she just got her first gun and “would love an excuse to use it”. I questioned what she meant and she responded “oh, someone doing something bad like stealing or threatening me that would justify me shooting them”. The kids all agreed that they wanted the same thing. I tried to talk to them about being caring and understanding (they were a church group that was volunteering at a charity!) but I think they completely brushed me off…

We have a neighborhood like that in NE Philly. It's a bunch of blocks with the same name, but Terrace, Plaza, Street, and Court after. Sometimes your GPS will take you to the wrong one.
While I'm very much for guns, I've never understood this "fear" of people. I believe people deserve the benefit of the doubt. People are good until they've proven they aren't.
For guns, why? Somebody in particular you want to kill?
So sad. I recall visiting the US back in '97 and watching guns in the street and being scared, because in Denmark I never ever saw a gun anywhere, anytime. I was 30, and I remember crossing the Canadian border and feeling safe again

I'm from the rural southwest and I can tell you that people with ranches shoot first and ask later. My wife was working the census in 2020 and got shot at at least four times and had to turn around.

If you want to address mass shootings you need to start by banning or severely restricting handguns. Those are the primary culprit in the vast majority of qualified mass shootings.
They are also just the worst weapons possible for self defense. They have no stopping power, but a high chance of doing lethal damage eventually. The AR thing is a distraction while handguns are the ones that really make no sense to still be legal.

@LivingWellist these issues don't effect him or anybody he cares about personally so he has the privilege of ignoring it or acting like it doesn't exist. The privilege to honestly be able to prioritize sports over the constant and consistent unnecessary loss of life.
Daniel perry argument is insanely dishonest. Look into details yourself. Uber driver who was driving a passenger to their destination. Car was attacked by violent mob in an area that WAS NOT blocked off for protest. AK was aimed at him and he fired in response. Violent mob with a gun attacked him and he defended himself. The proliferation of guns in this country IS the problem. We have too many guns in the hands of the wrong people. I have not heard one coherent reason one needs to have an AR-15. Our first step is to make it illegal to own an AR-15. But in this country, we'd rather sacrifice our kids than give up the AR-15. Pathetic
