Moving to Esquimalt in Victoria BC | Victoria BC Neighbourhoods Guide Episode 3
Buying a house or finding a rental in Victoria BC can be a daunting task, especially if you are moving to Victoria BC for the first time. That’s why I wanted to create a Victoria BC neighbourhoods guide to introduce you to the different communities in our beautiful city. Whether you are considering a move to Vancouver Island and Victoria BC from another part of Canada or from another part of Vancouver Island or Victoria BC itself, welcome to the Capital Map!
In this episode, we explore the neighbourhoods and township of Esquimalt. If you have never visited Esquimalt BC I hope this video serves as a good introduction to the lifestyle options and how this neighbourhood fits into the Victoria BC Real Estate Market.
The Victoria Housing Market has been on an absolute tear since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic that is now shifting towards more balance in 2022 with elevated mortgage rates and a reduction in demand. The benchmark price of a detached home in Victoria BC is $1,280,600 as of July 2022 but may begin to slowly tick down. Victoria BC Housing has also become the 4th most expensive city in Canada to rent. Part of this is due to the fact that for those that wish to live close to the city centre, we have run out of land. Esquimalt BC is one of these seaside communities where the only remaining answer for more affordability is more density.
Esquimalt BC is one of Victoria BC’s most beautiful seaside communities. You'll find impressive seaside views from Saxe Point Park and many of the parks lining the southern coastline of the community. Macaulay Point Park, Gorge Park, and others are also fantastic for dogs. Whether you boat, kayak, or paddle board, there is great access to ocean in Esquimalt.
The neighbourhoods are dominated by detached homes but there is also an impressive mix of ocean view condominiums and townhomes primarily located along Esquimalt Road in this Victoria BC Neighbourhood. A huge part aspect of the neighbourhood in Esquimalt is the impact of CFB Esquimalt (Esquimalt Navy Base - Canada Navy) which is set at the western end of the community. Nevertheless there is a mixed demographic of retirees and young families with tremendous schools nearby including École Victor-Brodeur, Macaulay Elementary, Rockheights Middle School, Esquimalt High School, and more. All of the neighbourhoods in Esquimalt offer great access to downtown Victoria BC as well as access to the ocean and wonderful recreation opportunities.
In my mind Victoria BC Living can be defined as a unique seaside lifestyle for outdoor enthusiasts that like being part of great communities with access to great arts, culture, and nightlife. Esquimalt defines this to a tee.
