40th anniversary this week. No single world event in my 59 years and 9 months has had a more profound affect on my political views and desire for equality. I now live in the constituency that he was voted to serve as MP for the last few weeks of his life. I think he'd be very sad at the state of the world today.
Streets in plenty of towns in France changed street names to Bobby Sands. The indian parliment stood in silence for a minute but the DAIL didn´t. Prince Charles was booed at the ballet in the USA and Thatcher got Princess Margaret to cancell her visit to the State. The great Irish-Americans had a wedding on same day and Diana and Cha´s on 5th Av. The chariot was drawn by 6 BLANKET MEN. (I would love to know their names so as to honour them.)
Churchill Boulevard in Tehran was renamed Bobby Sands Street. The British Embassy's address was on Churchill. Instead of having official address of Bobby Sands Street the Brits demolished a wall and built a new entrance and closed the entrance on Bobby Sands Street. Iranians know how to troll.

Written by the late Bruce Scott from Kirkby (via Anfield). After discovering this song in a Christy Moore songbook, I asked Bruce at our next meeting if he was the composer, which he confirmed. Bruce also said that he had fallen out with Christy as he had not recorded all the song leaving out criticism of the Eire government. Next time I saw Bruce, I asked why Christy had left out the verse and Bruce replied that he and Christy had reconciled with copies of Christy's CDs arriving regularly. Why Christy left out the verse, I never found out and now Bruce has gone, I might never know. I do know that the guy who often used to call in at my family home all those years ago was a musical genius and I miss meeting him in downtown Liverpool when he would sing me his latest verses in his inimitable (and very loud) way.
