    Works perfect. Thank you for this very good manual and "howto" :) The main work were the wings, two hours each. The nose was done in half an hour. one cut, the sticks and a little bit of hotglue and the zipties. Phantastic job!

    What an awesome landing by Josh Scott! Man that's pretty good considering unlike most of us you have a whole camera crew plus thousands of Internet viewers watching you! Nice work man. Also great mod on the landing gear . . couldn't believe what a difference it made to the look of the model in flight!

  • @whagen01
    @whagen01 Před 9 lety

    I did it on my T-28! I followed Flite Test's directions, and now have functioning retracts on my Parkzone Trojan. The only differences are that I kept the main gear mounting points where they are, and installed the tires outboard of the main gear struts. The result is that the tires are the same distance apart as the stock setup (13") when extended, and are closer together - in the fuselage - when retracted. The airplane behaves just as Josh B describes. No bad tendencies. Also, the retracts I added are the smaller 10-15 size setup. The struts are the same diameter as the stock setup, so the tires go on with no modifications.

    nice option to have....
    another option - the nose is weak and a few nose first landings will usually require repairs - after many repairs I finally converted to a tail dragger. Disconnected the steering linkage to the nose and put a small wheel on the tail, and move the front wheels forward to the edge of the wing and put a slight forward bend in the struts. She flew really nice as a tail dragger.

    I didn't realize so many people had trouble with the transition from 3ch to 4ch and on up to advanced planes. For me I guess it kind of came naturally. After 3 flights on a 3ch I was good to go with 4ch and now I'm able to fly big warbirds. It's nice because I suck at most things that take coordination, but this takes mental coordination and I seem to have a knack for it. I'm really glad I found this hobby! (Also Josh Scott is getting a lot better, warbirds do have a lot more to think about)

    Great landing in deed, J. Scott! That T-28 Trojan is my favorite plane still after many many years in my hangar. I used it as a a Trainer, yes. Some might dissagree but it's so docile that I found myself flying solo pretty soon. Of course I also have a propper trainer, which I also keep, but I prefer the T-28 above it to teach my friends with the buddy box. I even installed flaps on it. Of course, if I want to instal this retracts I will have to use a spare battery and disable the BEC.

    I tried my first attempt at eflite retracts into my PZ Habu about a year ago... turned out well, by which I mean it worked... I had a problem with the nose gear being too short, as I didnt have enough room for it to cycle further back... Anyway, it had a very long take off roll and would just pop up into the air like Josh said because of the incidence of the wing... Flight is on my channel. :)

    Another good video, and nice job on the retract install. However, I find it ironic the choice of airplane...since Flitetest's "other sponsor" sells a foamy T-28 of exactly the same size that comes with retracts already built-in for you!
    I installed those same E-flite retracts on a large foam "chuck-glider" that I converted to RC. Maybe you should consider doing a chuck-glider conversion for a future Flitetest episode. Chuck-gliders make a good platform for cheap fun experiments in building.

    Do an episode on precision cutting into the Styrofoam for passing servo cables, cameras, maybe even tools that cut out perfect circles for landing gears. Maybe you can also show a movie clip of how the factory does pre-cuts ( ex. servo lead wires in the wings) into the foam before they sell you a plane! This is so the airplane does not look like a hack job of cutting like some terrible plastic surgery.

    Rebuttle to flyingchimp99., No disrespect, but I learned to fly on the t-28 park zone, I did buy the rtf version, but soon upgraded to a dx6. It was a great plane to learn on, very forgiving on hard landings, parts are cheap and readilly available, with this foam, a little hot glue and up and flying again before the gun was cooled down. My advice to kalebsouth24 is try the hobby zone cub , 4 ch. !/2 the price, but u might tire of it quickly, I would go T-28 again if I had to do it over..
