I have chosen to look at what I think is the best Bond pre-credits scene: The Living Daylights opening scene, which introduced us to Timothy Dalton as James Bond 007. This seven minute pre-title sequence perfectly captures everything that I love about the Bond franchise, and to me is simply the best Bond opening scene.
If you love James Bond and cannot wait to see No Time To Die when it gets its worldwide release next week, then check out the full Bond is Back playlist to get hyped for this franchise that continues to deliver after almost 60 years.

However they have in list someone who want the role since 1987 and who could have this role if production decide to have a actor who is partly commit also in tv show and who want to reply this role several times. Interesting enough we can feel in GoldenEye that Bond part was clearly intended for Dalton character, i always thought that Brosman Bond in GoldenEye is little bit out of character than in his other movies and he is same "mission driven" as Dalton, that he is little bit emotionless...same, it litlle bit shame they did not find some term in contract, becuase when you think about that, his Bond is similar to Daniel Craig bond and i dont think its coincidence

I blame Roger Moore for staying too long in the role.
Dalton's tenure as Bond should've started with John Glen's first film; For Your Eyes Only (1981), followed by Octopussy (1983) and View to a Kill (1985).
Roger Moore looked too old to play Bond in all 3 of those films and the plots were more down-to-earth, making them better suited to Dalton's portrayal.

I agree, Dalton was an absolute badass from the moment they revealed him. Dalton’s Bond totally held his own for pretty much the entirety of his two movies(should’ve been eight lol). He was remarkable, both as an 80s Cold War-era Bond & his darker, more serious tone, and the physicality. I’d say in terms of threat level, Dalton’s is only second to ruthless & reckless ass but still awesome Daniel Craig, who, by all accounts, will not hesitate to skip interrogation & end you 😂. Dalton has been a lifelong favourite of mine until Casino Royale happened.

I totally agree with you here! The opening scene in The Living Daylights is extremely good and I also agree Dalton was done dirty. He was miles better as Bond than he is given credit for! Moore had his own style which in many of his movies was a bit humorous and Dalton was just different, he brought more seriousness and a darker side to the character of Bond, especially in Licence To Kill. That was a welcomed change after Moore's version of Bond!
The Living Daylights is one of my favourite Bonds because it's rather 'realistic'. It does not have any over the board Q specialities and the story is about Cold War and drugs instead of space battles and stuff like that. Don't get more wrong, I like Moonraker aswell! The Living Daylights is indeed a real and proper spy and agent movie and Dalton plays the a bit serious and dark spy agent extremely well.
The title song is also one of my favourites aswell. 80s rock fits extremely well in there! GoldenEye as a movie and song is another big favourite of mine. Brosnan does it extremely well in that movie and Tina Turner sings the title song extremely well.

I think AVTAK would have needed a massive rewrite if Dalton debuted. Keep Zorin and May Day, Duran Duran’s banger of a theme, and Tanya Roberts as well. Everything else - plot, interactions - would need a total change, but Dalton would have made it work.

I've always felt bummed about Dalton not getting a 3rd film to really solidify his James Bond among the other actors. He was a terrific James Bond who brought depth and violence back to the character and was closest to the literary Bond than any actor who portrayed 007. Licence to Kill has to be my favorite Bond film, it was unlike any other Bond film of the time and I believe it was the first film where Bond looks visibly injured and bleeding from his fight with Sanchez at the end. Timothy Dalton brought us a Bond based in the reality which is why he's always been my favorite James Bond.

I remembered sneaking out to watch this movie. I also remembered thinking that this was a better Bond than Roger Moore. At the time, Moore would have been the bond I grew up with and I thought he almost turned the role into a comedy. Ironically, critics thought that Dalton was too dark and too serious for the role. To date, Dalton is in my top 2 Bonds, too bad he only did 2 movies.

When I saw this on its opening night, I knew very well who Timothy Dalton was. You make a good point that the introduction of the faces of the first two double-O's was a misdirection for audiences who came in cold. That completely escaped me until now. Great analysis.

  • @lucitonstjames3925

Dalton was offered Diamonds Are Forever in 1971 but turned it down as he felt he wasn’t old enough for the character. Connery made 3 good Bond films , Lazenby was great in the greatest Bond film ( best ending you’ll ever see) , Moore played it tongue firmly in cheek , but Dalton gave the character a fresh outlook , he did with it what it should always have been. Golden eye was specifically written for Dalton & such a shame the legals wrangles made him walk away.

    • @LexingtonDeville984

The original GoldenEye script is available online. It’s very action packed, and Anthony Hopkins was the original choice to play Augustus Trevelyan, a former mentor to Bond who went rogue by defecting to Russia during the Cold War, as opposed to Sean Bean’s Lienz Cossack looking for revenge on MI6.

It was a really great opener, I agree. The Land Rover going over the cliff was filmed on the South Coast of England in Eastbourne. Carl Rigg, the actor playing the Russian agent lived in a town nearby, I used to chat to him in the pub occasionally. I remember the Land Rover remains being left at the foot of the cliff for quite some time as there were ‘crossed wires’ between people in the organizing of the clean up with local salvage companies.
