I say the healthiest choice would be to not use either of them and replace them with a lite drizzle of olive oil, I use it even in cooking and it's works great.

I remember when they had white margarine and that was really good because it had less chemicals in it basically all natural. We lived on a farm so farmer would make his own margarine it was white. But butter is way better for you because your body burns it off faster as margarine sticks to the wall of your arteries . But if I use becel i like the taste but that's just me.

Soft margarine is easier to spread while I need to cut a slice off refrigerated butter. If the margarine is salty, I'd spread less of it. So if you care about energy content, their serving sizes are radically different. However, I'd rather choose to eat good butter but less food overall.
None of the medical research with tehnical language can be relied upon if they can make a 180 turn with the discovery of "trans" fats, which means that all the margarine consumed until now was actually unhealthy.

The problem is that unlike butter margarine is partially hydrogenated which makes it far more damaging to your cardiovascular system than butter. The essential fatty acids in butter are nutritionally far more beneficial than the margarine as well since margarine has no nutritional value what so ever.

Butter - if your eating well, a lot of nutrients are fat soluble it is said. So give them something to dissolve in. Butter is just one thing, churned cows milk, not a mash up of a bunch of other things with other things added. Use in moderation, although my mam is in her eighties and you would swear the amount she goes through, she would need to be painting with it! +1 for butter here all the way.

All the arguments here are based on what experts say, not practical experience, and only the health aspect is evaluated, not taste, spreadability, boiling, melting temperatures, shelf life, price. For thousands of years man has eaten animal fats and lived. Last time I had spreadable (not short/bak/ing) margarine, I took less of it because it was soft and strongly salty, but had a thick slice of refrigerated butter because I couldn't help it.

Margarine is a petrochemical sludge which is only one molecule away from plastic. It's made in a factory - from an unpleasant slew of man-made ingredients. Even more shocking is the fact that it's grey in colour. Therefore, the manufacturers have to dye margarine/ spreads yellow to make it look more palatable.
Who would choose this filth over real butter which tastes divine?

    • @CIays

Ok so I agree with you on butter being healthier but as a chemist, your reasoning for why it’s bad is horribly flawed. We add natural colourant to many things simply to make them more appealing, it has nothing to do with health. Colour is not indicative of safety. Also a single molecule can drastically change any substance. Table salt? Made of two toxic substances that form a wonderful crystal lattice that’s safe to eat on food. Besides, margarine is not chemically anything close to plastic. What gave you this idea? A simple google search can show you this.

  • @DotAHeaD-JamieJupiter-Xander

Here, in Toronto, you can easily find non-hydrogenated, trans fat-free margarine from makers like Becel. Some of which, even incorporate olive oil into their recipe in an effort to make a healthier product... or at least sell people one... :\
Notably, the Olive Oil Becel margarine I just bought has 30% DV of Vitamin D as an added bonus!
I like the lighter taste and spread-ability of margarine on toast but when I throw something in a pan, I'm reaching for my unsalted butter or some extra virgin olive oil and never the margarine. I know olive oil isn't a perfect choice either but I happen to quite enjoy the flavor and it goes well with my Italian cooking.
Why must we be forced to choose between A or B? Why not just have both butter and margarine in stock and choose the healthiest margarine and butter choices available so you can use them for different applications? As long as you're reading labels and understanding the gist of what you're reading, (consult the almighty oracle of Google if you don't recognize an ingredient), you're unlikely to make a poor health choice when browsing at the supermarket. Keep calm and dairy on, butter lovers. And don't be tryin' to mess with tradition, margarine lovers. Butter has a culture to be respected and nobody would be eatin' "I can't believe it's not Butter!" if butter didin't come first. We're all glad that you're down with the hip new shit that is margarine, but let us lard lads enjoy our churning! Mmmk?
    Thx!
    Great video! Thumbed up! B)

Recent research is suggesting that sat. fats aren't as bad as we used to think. They raise harmless, large LDL, not harmful, small LDL. Trans fats raise small LDL.

most of the margarines these days are trans fat free. It is actually hard find ones with trans fat. this is one hell of a rumor that the butter sellers made. even milks and dairy products that we are eating these days are from geneticslly modified cows and goats. MARS there werent any technologies to harvest a lot of milk out of a single cow , but these days cows are genetically engineered to harvest the maximum amount of milk. Actually dairy cows can produce up to 12 times much milk than those that are in the wild. However, they can only produce milk after giving a birth to a calf. Not these days though. But it sure is a great thing cuz we can eat more cheezz

  • @JB-sz4wy

Butter is better in the sense that it is more natural. Margarine is a synthesized food which is not good. Butter produces saturated fats or I should say contains them which may not be good in large dosages although margarine produces trans fats when consumed which are even worse
On the other hand, not everyone can eat butter due to dairy allergies. So for some people margarine is the only option. Hummus and homemade dips are better than margarine if you want a dip, although if you must eat margarine over butter they do produce a number of low trans fat margarines. Even though I would not say its better than butter it should be all right if consumed rarely or in moderation

Margarine is hard to find in the supermarket. Most stores only carry one brand if they actually have any at all. 98% of the so called "margarine" spreads on the market are not margarine at all. That's why they don't say margarine on the package. Most say "vegetable oil spread" or similar. In order to be considered as margarine, they must contain a certain percentage of vegetable oil. Most of these new healthy spreads have removed the oil and added man made chemical crap.

You didn't address how margarine has no vitamins and minerals naturally occurring or fortified. While natural butter that's not overly processed is high in carotene, calcium, vitamin A , D, & E With margarine unless it's added in there contains no such vitamin content. . Well staying away from any excess oil or sugar is better for you if you had to use one using an organic butter in moderation would be better for you health wise. Just like choosing to use raw honey or unprocessed cane sugar over white granulated sugar, because of the enzymes and other benefits that you get from unprocessed cane sugar or raw honey.

    • @Stig007
      @Stig007 Před 9 lety +1

+Nicha sweetheart you get vitamins and minerals from everything you eat if you're eating something with empty calories and no nutritional benefits you're doing your body more harm than good so it be better for you to eat something that has vitamins and minerals in it then eat something that's just giving you fat unless it's been fortified synthetically. I did research( wrong or right I tried ) before I comment so please try to match me.
