Brahms 'Academic Festival' Overture with Male Chorus in 'Gaudeamus Igitur'

- Brahms wrote his 'Academic Festival' Overture for the University of Breslau in 1880. A new release on the Guild label begins with this work in which the Musikkollegium Winterthur, conductor Karl Scheuber, is joined by a male voice choir for 'Gaudeamus Igitur' towards the end. The CD also includes the first recordings of Edward Rushton's 'Concrete' and Friedrich Hegar's 'Festive Cantata.' The recordings were made in 2014 to mark the centenary of the opening of the Zurich University's new building in 1914. (From Guild GMCD 7415.)

I flunked out of College after the first semester in 1973. Don't cry for me, because I enlisted in the USAF, where I learned telecommunications electronics troubleshooting and retired well from Verizon. My only regret is that I missed out on the fantastic academic culture handed down through time as represented in "Gaudeamus Igitur."
My S-in-L is a PhD, previously employed at Penn State and with the University of Michigan. /sigh As Jager said, "you can't always get what you want..." But I have enough because I can listen to this powerful music anytime I wish.
Ha! What is--or was-- fantastic academic culture? It's long gone. Western Civilization, the meaning of life, etc., long gone from the halls of academia. So don't even dream about going back to capture it. It ain't there any more. Oct. 5, 2022. St. Joseph, MO, USA. I'm 78.
