- Learn the techniques and skills required for successful stern-in docking, the most difficult maneuver in boating. THE SECOND EDITION OF THE BOOK ENTITLED, "7 STEPS TO SUCCESSFUL BOAT DOCKING", IS NOW AVAILABLE THROUGH AMAZON.COM, AND IT PROVIDES THE DETAILS ON BUILDING THIS SKILL GRADUALLY, AND SUCCESSFULLY.
What Capt Kathie refers to as leeway is correctly called Transfer. Transfer is the movement of the vessel towards the outside of the turn. Leeway of a vessel is caused by the wind. At the start of the video, I don't understand why she goes port forward, bringing the bow to starboard and then backs to starboard. It would make more sense to go starboard forward to start the turn.
Thank you!
Great video and good information!!!
Great great video. It has helped me a lot
thanks for sharing
awesome video
How about a single engine boat docking video
Why wouldn't you already have fenders hanging from both sides of the boat "before" you start the docking procedure???
You can watch as many videos and read as many books as you want but nothing beats doing it manually or playing about with the controls away from ppl
Where is the 20 knot cross wind?
These video's are great, BUT...why can't we see demonstration a little more real world. Like 10-13 mph winds...maybe a little water current. This demonstration is in optimal conditions, so it's not really hard with 2 engines.
The technique in the live action isn't the same as the one illustrated in captkathie's diagrams at the start of the video. There is no attempt to align the "corner" of the stern with the dock - as she advocates in the diagrams!
The "linehandler" crewman - with no lifejacket - makes a dangerously wide stride ashore but has no line in his hand! If he's "crucial" to the docking procedure then however does captkathie manage when she is singlehanded?
That passenger is not much help at all; I would have stepped onto the dock with stern rope in hand, and guide it backward to a stop n dock. useless !
