2007 Yamaha FZ6 Power Pulls on Dynojet + HP TQ Numbers

  • In this video the FZ6 hits the dyno at MAS Cycles in Langley, British Columbia. Mike as MAS was really nice and gave me some ideas of putting R6 camshafts into the FZ6. I'm told the cams are a direct fit and with a r6 ignition map flashed on the FZ6 ecu the bike could pick up 10-15 whp.
    Let me know if you'd like to see me do this R6 camshaft swap!

    A bit lower then expected at 85. I usually assume a 10% loss to the rear wheel. Still got the same bike and 85 still feels pretty solid. Got extensions for handlebar so it's even more upright.

  • @gaminggyro8408
    @gaminggyro8408 Před 2 lety +5

    I’ve heard once you do the R6 cam swap the daily drivability suffers because supposedly you get less low end torque, but make a ton more power up top.

    • @gaminggyro8408
      @gaminggyro8408 Před 2 lety +2

      I know with mine with just the stock cams, on the street by time I get into power I’m already getting into illegal speeds so I’ve gotta slow down.
      From my research that just gets moved up with R6 cams, so you’re going even faster before you start making good power

    • @Calvinm
      @Calvinm  Před 2 lety +6

      Ya the power band will move up the rev range a little that's for sure. I agree the power already comes on at high speeds on stock cam but maybe I'll just have to try the R6 cams to find out if it's worth it for everyone else.

      @@Calvinm yes please do and let me/us know!
      Right now I’m looking into getting a bigger bike, but I’d much rather spend the money on some R6 cams if it doesn’t move up the power range too much

  • @bence.gabor.slezak
    @bence.gabor.slezak Před rokem +2

    R6 cams will move the torque peak up to higher rpm and you will have to rev the engine higher to get going, but you can swap sprockets for shorter garing and get better acceleration.

    • @Big1_
      @Big1_ Před rokem

      Exactly, so leave the bike as it is and change the attack sprocket to get better acceleration. You don´t need the bike working at 240-230 or even 220kmh... 200 is enought.

      I haven’t done the cam swap. Not really sure if it’s in the future plans either. I really enjoy taking the FZ6 on long road trips and I don’t want to jeopardize the reliability of it with a cam upgrade. Also with the way gas prices are going I’m enjoying putting regular gas in the FZ6 which I wouldn’t be able to do after the cam swap... so it might happen way off in the future but for now I enjoy the bike the way it is.

      Timing another difference between the fz6 and r6. I know you can do a timing mod to the fz6 and it can add up to 10hp across the rev range but then have to use 93 octane fuel and in hotter climates maybe even switch to cooled plugs. Timing mod+power commander+k&n filter+catless mid pipe/exhaust+good tune could get you close to those numbers. Hopefully in the spring I can get my bike to a dyno to see if it's possible

    • @7795Dakota
      @7795Dakota Před 2 lety +1

      I did this mod and its like night and day. It gives you a wider friction zone for the clutch and makes the clutch "lighter/easier to pull

    • @Angel-HC

      Thank you for bringing this to my attention! I've been meaning to modify the arm for a long time. My work around was to keep the stock clutch lever (long grip) but this looks like the mod I've been meaning to try to run shorter levers! Thank you.

    Strange question, got a FZ6 but the camshaftchain broke and demolished my engine. So i'm looking for another engine. Do know if an R6 block wil fit de FZ6, maybe with adjustments? Just for a few extra Hp 😉

    • @Calvinm
      @Calvinm  Před 2 lety +1

      I don’t know if it’ll fit. Internally it’s slightly higher compression and the head is improved to rev higher. As for the bolting points to the frame, I’m a little skeptical it’ll line right up unless someone has done it before.

    • @Calvinm
      @Calvinm  Před 2 lety

      Header polish was done in a video I'll link down below. The cam swap is still in the schedule to happen but I plan on doing it in September at the end of the riding season. As much as I would love to throw the R6 cams in before this season, I have a few road trips planned on the FZ6 and I don't want to discover long term problems with the cam swap when I'm hundred of miles from home.
