For anyone that hasn't listened to their 2020 record Inlet, I can't recommend highly enough that you listen to it NOW. It's honestly their best work to date. Seriously.
Agree, inlet is great
I agree 100%. Every time I listen to it, I find something new about it that I like
@@jeff7764 cool story
Yes, flawless album
The first song sounds like it was recorded or mixed differently so it fits a bit odd for me but the rest of the album really flows well if you’re a hum fan. My favorite song is probably “I hate it too” still.
This song is such a gem. Huge distortion, chug palm mutes and a metal inspired breakdown section.
Thanks for the lesson; I love HUM! Fun fact about this record (and all the other HUM records): almost every single guitar part is triple-tracked, no matter how intricate the passage. The producer said he'd never seen a guitarist able to recreate a performance so exactly and both players did it. That's why HUM sounds so huge!
Very cool!
Apparently Tim Lash did everything 1 for 1. Matt could do the same as well but apparently Tim was soaring through sessions.
Hey dude, this is interesting, where did you find this out?
Would love to read more about the recording process
Wow!!!! Didn't expect to ever hear this online, let alone a tutorial vid. Thank you for bringing back an absolute classic track from an epic album!! Thank you to the dude who requested it.
you're welcome mate, glad you enjoyed it!

Best I could do. Hopefully you agree.
People really slept on this band! Several amazing songs on this album and their next one. You should check out "Green to Me" if you wanna some of the sweetest "chorusy distortion" you'll ever hear. Long live Hum, long live space rock!
Will check it out mate!
@@LetsPlayAll Their newest album Inlet is amazing. Check that too
its allllllllllll green to meeeeeeeeeeeeee
It’s weird seeing other people talk about HUM
@@bryanrogers3792 fr, didn’t know they had such a loyal fanbase but it makes me happy to see. they definitely deserve it
Rip their drummer Bryan. Most underrated drummer in my opinion. The scientist is one of my fave songs of theirs. Been a giant fan since 1995.
that's a great tune :-)
Hum are fucking KILLER!! Best song of that era, and their albums are great. If You Are to Bloom is another great song.
I'm so happy that you cover these 90's gems. They take me back to when I first picked up a guitar. I still remember struggling mightily when trying to figure out what was going on during the verse back in 95 with no CZcams to help. I had to either figure it out myself or hope a friend knew how to play it 😄
you're welcome mate!
Anyone who enjoys this song and isn’t familiar with Hum’s catalog, definitely check them out. Filet Show was their first album that I’m aware of. Not my favorite as it’s early and they’re finding their sound. It’s more raw and aggressive but there are some good tracks. Electra 2000 was next and is awesome. My favorite album of theirs. You’d Prefer An Astronaut is where Stars came from so you likely know of it. Downward is Heavenward was next and I thought it was better than YPAA. Lastly, after a 22 year break(?!?!) they released Inlet in 2020. After all these years they’ve stayed true to their sound. I don’t like Inlet like Electra 2000 but there are a handful of great tracks on there. Go check them out and see what you think. Good stuff!
Inlet is f’n amazing
It’s a shame their drummer passed away this last year. Knowing them they won’t make anymore albums after Inlet (2020)
The way you explained the bridge riff was great, most of us havent been able to really nail that part, always playing it like a pentatonic hammer on... thanks for nailing it
@@juanticimo welcome and thanks for the kind words!
Great. :,) It sucks being a Hum fan at 18, but at least I can learn the songs and watch live shows on CZcams...
There are A LOT of tabs that show the bridge played differently, and no matter how much I practiced, it was never in time. I watched the 120 minutes performance of this, and it was nothing like how the tabs were written...this tutorial is played the way they play it live. To me, that is the "correct" way...the way the author plays it live. Great stuff!!
Thanks mate, I always write my own tabs, glad it’s accurate!
Awesome! This really fills in a lot of gaps for things I could never really hear properly in such a dense mix. Thanks for that!
You’re welcome!
My favorite band of all time! Heavenly Droning, endless feedback and pummeling drums and bass.
I uploaded a playthrough of this amazing song 13 years ago. It pleases me to see people still embracing this band. I love how you play the chunky bridge riff. Totally different than I play it but the notes are all there! Happily subscribing sir! Looking forward to diving into your channel. Cheers!
thanks mate and welcome aboard! :-)
Awesome song. Brings back tons of memories from early 20’s. Nice job!!
This is one of my favorite songs! So cool to see this. Great band! I seen them with Bush and The toadies back in 94/95 maybe?. Can’t remember the exact year. Anyway, rock on! 🤘
Awesome. You seem to make lessons on literally all of the songs I like to listen to. Love your channel
haha thanks mate, clearly you have excellent taste in music ;-)
Been awhile since heard this one. More music I hear the more obvious it is that the '90s was the music pinnacle!
Fantastic song, played it with my brother at a talent show when I was in the 6th grade around 2006! Hahaha We discovered it on an alternative mix tape of sorts. I truly didn’t expect to hear about this song anywhere.
Nice! I remember buying this cd when it first came out. I thought they were gonna be Huge...ended up being a one hit wonder unfortunately. Still managed to write one of the best songs of the 90s though. More than i have ever done! haha
haha you and me both! cracking tune :-)
Most underrated band imo
Hell yea a classic one of those bangers people always forget till I toss it on the playlist and suddenly we are all Back in a very specific moment I man oue lives when anything is possible
I forgot how much I liked this riff
just found my favorite guitar lessons channel, thanks for your service.subbed
Awesome, thanks for the sub!
Might need that humbucker too! Sweet
In My top three Favorite bands of all time. So glad to see this. Thank You!
I almost had this song by ear. Missed one part. Thanks man.
Nice job. That bridge riff is really something, and I do believe the first hit on Goog for the tab from Ultimate Guitar nails it. The riff is straight 16th notes and the key is the slide from 5th to 7th fret on the A as one 16th. Go check it out, you'll want to edit this vid once you get it. That riff is God-tier once nailed. Smoke one to confirm. :)
Dang i was just playing this one yesterday. A truly timeless slapper
you read my mind this is one of my favorite songs at the moment
One of my favorites from back in the day! Thank you so much for doing this, and your tone was awesome!
thanks man, you're welcome!
Never heard of this until I stumbled across it on CZcams about 18 months ago and I’m sure that was via comments when discussing Deftones . How I never heard of it before I’ll never know.
What a great throwback! Always loved this tune👍
Classic song
I have always liked your videos, but this one made me subscribe!
Awesome, thank you! :-)
Dude, do you know every great song from the 90s?! Thanks for the solid lessons.
Haha not yet, but eventually we all will! 😀🤘
I absolutely love this band!!! I remember 94 or 95 I think is when I grabbed this cassette tape lol yes cassette!!! And it pairs well with a sativa😉
Great song and great lesson man!
11:32 I always thought I heard a very quick double-pick of that second note on the studio version at the beginning of that run. It’s pretty fast but there sounds like there’s a little more “meat” to it than a single note.
I don't hear an extra note there but they aren't tightly double tracked so it could just be the other guitar part coming in a little later than the other. Just sounds like 4 notes per beat (to my ears) :-)
@@LetsPlayAll That makes a lot of sense and I imagine is exactly what is going on there. I jumped over to the studio recording for a listen and can hear it pretty clearly during the section between 3:44 and 3:45. This is prompted to 3:43 - czcams.com/video/gMEB4HNNZ2I/video.html
It's so fast that it likely is the two guitars being just a bit out of sync.
I originally thought it was similar to what was going on at the end of 311's Transistor where you can hear the quick notes being played. Prompted to 2:27 - czcams.com/video/Ytx7CJzv2b4/video.html
Time to get back to my trip down Hum memory lane! So many great songs: Iron Clad Lou, Winder, Boy With Stick, The Scientists
@@SD-unlimited cool, enjoy the reminiscing mate!
dude i LOVE your hoodie it’s sweet man santa cruzzz baby 🤘

One of my favourite songs ever
wicked, enjoy mate!
I was just thinking about this song and I get this notification. Nice
haha nice indeed :-)
Excellent song, great band and awesome lesson
thanks Max!
Please do Little Dipper by Hum. I have been looking for tabs everywhere and cannot find them.
Yeah a badass song indeed!!! Great video and lesson!!
Thanks!
one of my fav bands ty
awesome you're welcome!
Such a simple song, but there's something about that massive distortion. I'm going to have to play this when I get home. I forgot about this one! :)
yeah so satisfying isn't it!
@@LetsPlayAll Definitely! 👍
Absolutely perfect. Ahhhhhh.
Thanks so much for this.
If you know how to play Girlfriend by Mathew Sweet that would rock. I cant figure this out. You make great videos thanks man.
Great song and great hoodie!
thanks man!
What do you have your neck pickup height at? Theres a great balance when the distortion kicks in. As a grunge kid myself I absolutely love these lessons!
cheers! no idea tbh haha i never tinker with that stuff
@@LetsPlayAll Haha it's all good man. I tinker with my guitars like a mad scientist 😂 Your tone is always spot on. I'm a bit of a pedal addict so I love seeing the cool pedals you use as well. Keep rocking!
@@RCMusic718 cheers bud! Lots more to come !
Damn. Forgot about HUM. Such a good song
Never heard this. I have to check it out.
Do it man, great fun to play, the outro riff is class too :-)
Make a tutorial “Shapeshifter” of Hum please 🙏🙏
Patreon.com/letsplayall best for requests mate 🤘😊
I’ve always thought the main riff was being played with this octave chord 0-9-x-11 instead of the way you play it 0-9-0. Honestly I can’t tell even when I’ve watched live versions of this song but I think the octaves sound better to me. What do you guys think? Either way thanks for the lesson. This song is awesome!
I don't hear the octave on the recording, but the clean part is played with a bit of chorus. If you look at this vid about 1min 15 you can see just one finger being used :-) czcams.com/video/3jQzNtQhraQ/video.html
@@LetsPlayAll You’re right it is one finger. Well there goes about a decade of playing that wrong lol
@@Superchild88 my world has been shattered, ive been playing this song wrong since 2002 lmao
@@davidb4935 I feel the pain lol
If people don’t know about this band I suggest you go buy “so You’d Prefer an Astronaut” RIGHT NOW!!
It took them 20 years but they finally made a new album. “Inlet” is good but Astronaut is a perfect album.
Enjoying the vids, how about some Helmet :)
cheers, excellent suggestion!
90s jem.
Please, do some more Hum
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE POST HOW TO PLAY “UNGLUED” by STONE TEMPLE PILOTS
don't worry we'll get to them all :-)
i remember watching them blow howard stern's ears off with this in his studio :D (edit: in video. i wasn't literally there)
great band
Is there a heart icon here? ❤️
you found it! thanks! ❤😊🤘
Amazing!!
There is a bit of octave in there too.
Cheers mate.
Time to do Why I Like the Robins. From same album.
Patreon.com/letsplayall best place for requests :-)
@@LetsPlayAll oops! Forgot about that. I’ll request over there.
Wow amazing. If you are to bloom would be another informative lesson, riff is so cool
Nice! Now can you do the intro riff to HUM’s “I Hate It Too”?!
Will add it to the list!
Nice! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
FUCK YES!!!
Can you do some 24-7 spyz and some at the drive songs
Green to me by hum please
I damaged a few car speakers when this song was released :)
fuck yeah
Hi sir... Just new to your channel.. is it possible for you to make a lesson for dishawalla's - collide ? ... Thank you...hope you can ..
Will check it out but Patreon best bet for specific stuff mate 😊🤘
Lol I'm dumb nevermind. Ive never done this before. I got it.
Ampli and pedal distorsion?
Not 100% but at a guess funny little boxes 1991 into my Victory V40
How about some Sloan while you’re doing all these awesome songs
I can play the part you guessed.i dont know how to write it out here. But that part is not how you played it. Its actually much easier.
If I may make a tweak to a part of this?
Sure mate 🤘
@@LetsPlayAllhow do I type this? What would the strings be so you would understand?
@@LetsPlayAlli am self taught and never took a leson in my life. I just know how to play. Thats a family gift so to speak.
@@LetsPlayAllwhat it I just recorded it and sent you a private link?
@@-redacted_by_youtube just fret number and string would do mate, say 5th fret on A strings etc
What do we have here!
The breakdown is missing a lot of notes, no offense.
Needs drums
Bridge is wrong.
