Rutgers University - 5 Things to Avoid

- www.gobeyondthebrochure.com/5-... - There’s a lot to love about the New Brunswick campus of Rutgers University: the world-renowned academic programs, the party scene, and the school spirit. Yet, like all things, it is not perfect, and Scarlet Knights quickly learn how to navigate all the sub-par and headache-inducing things to be found on campus. These are the top things to avoid at Rutgers University New Brunswick.Brower Commons. College Avenue’s dining hall embodies every stereotype about bad dining hall food unidentifiable fried objects, pizza with plastic cheese, goopy sauces, and sushi that disgraces its name.
This video is at least six years old. Things have gotten better. The RU Screw problem largely comes because New Jersey is so miserly when it comes to funding higher education, and so it is difficult tfor Rutgers to offer all the courses that students need. There are silly bureaucratic rules administered by silly bureaucrats, but there is less of that in the past. The most important thing for a student at any large university is to be self-directed and actively seek out the education he or she wants.
RU Screw: - "inevitable occurence" ... video title: - "5 Things to Avoid" ... lol nice
The RU screw cannot be avoided. It's impossible.
Ah, the RU Screw is still there! Jim T., Class of '77...
“Drunk girls to barf on you” made me laugh. A friend of mine (we’re still in high school) was taking the bus and this girl started to wobble and lean over. He caught her so she wouldn’t fall and then she threw up on his shoes.
avoid any college library during finals, the best parties are during finales, catch up on all that drinking you missed out on from being in the library during mid terms and the semester or quarter.
The Adderall in the bathroom is so accurate.
people actually SNORT it???
RU Screw is still here! I was screwed over when I transferred this semester
The only good thing about Rutgers was Neptune Night. We packed out book bags with as much lobster as we could fit and threw em into the fridge, nothing like it
I went to Rutgers in the early 2000s, and I can say that the old Tillet Dining Hall was even worse than Brower. I once saw someone write in the ladies room “if you eat at Tillet, be sure to know where the nearest bathroom is.” Brower was actually fairly decent when I was there…although not nearly as good as Busch or Nielsen. The new dining hall on Livingston hadn’t been built yet, so I don’t know how the food is there (I got to eat at Henry’s Diner, and it was pretty good and well priced).
I graduated from rutgers in 2002. Nothing has changed.
gridcaster 97 same here
Graduated in 2005…still can’t believe that Livingston doesn’t look ghetto anymore. Now they need the same transformation on Douglass.
Bus system was bad because many buses would get full to the point where you'd literally have to squeeze yourself inside the bus and pray that the folding bus doors close, then stand like packed sardines as the bus is on the highway. Waiting for the next bus isn't an option when your exam/quiz/etc is coming up. I remember in 2012 the LX bus was so packed during final exams that people would just fall on your lap and they couldn't stand back up because it was so crowded so you just ended up with some random dude on your lap for 12 minutes.
So spot on
Big state school = big state bureaucracy. (That means it also requires big girl/big boy pants.) I've worked at Rutgers for years and years and never, even for a split second, wished I went here as a student. RU Screw, Brower, and Alexander Library criticisms are justified. But this video title is a little misleading since students being loud/inconsiderate on the buses and non-RU-affiliated slum lords aren't really things the university can control, right? Just sayin'.
BTW, the library in this video (at 2:05) isn't a Rutgers library; it's the library of the New Brunswick Theological Seminary, whose whole campus is swallowed up (nope, not part of RU) as Rutgers gets bigger and denser in New Brunswick. If you're already an RU student and looking for a quieter alternative to Alexander Library, try Gardner-Sage Library. I don't think they'd kick RU students out.
What makes you say you didn't like it? I'm not complaining. I'm not really a fan either.
Thank you!
agree. while I might not have experienced everything in this video the RU Screw is a thing. In retrospect Rutgers/college wasn't really my scene at that point in my life but I stuck it out anyway. High school prepared me better to deal with the real world
There is a RU dean who very strongly resembles Paulie from Goodfellas.
I'm a little sad reading the negative comments about RU because I'm going to start 3 years program this fall and I do want to love the school. I need quiet libraries and decent food so I'm nervous now :( any positive feedback?
You are gonna love it at Rutgers! Everyone I know people loves the school. Dont let a couple of comments from random accounts you dont even know dampen your excitement. Many ppl on the West Coast see Rutgers as a fantastic school. Ranked top 25 best public schools in the nation and top 100 in the country in general by US News Report.
There are over 15 libraries, so u will find ur favorite. Also there are 4 dining halls that serve different food everyday... You will find ur favorite dining hall also. Honestly get hyped!
Rising senior at Rutgers, and loving it! Quiet libraries are all over the place, you can definitely find a place to study. (We have over 21 libraries). Decent food? Lobster Bisque and peking duck sound alright to you? :D
Sounds great! I will be there this coming Tuesday for an orientation and I hope to feel good at RU. They assigned me at Woodbury in Douglass, how is it?
Alissa Zambelli, Douglass is definitely the prettiest campus, but I've never been in that residence hall. Bring fans for the first couple of weeks, but it will cool down quickly. Enjoy your orientation!
Alissa Zambelli dear Alissa. I hope you liked RU. Just like you, I will be studying at Rutgers this fall and I will be very happy to hear your opinions. Thanks in advance for your support.
LMAO all mostly true. I enjoyed myself (Class of 86) in spite of the RU Screw!!! LMAO!! Brower Commons food while not great was manageable. I worked there nights so food was no problem with only a 5 meal plan. Buses were fine. Got hosed in the lottery but lucked out with a single dorm senior year. Got bent transferring courses but not too badly. Registering sucked the big one, long lines. All in all I was ok with it. I got a single dorm with some of the funniest wackiest students. The lounge at night was a laugh riot especially with the Philosophy majors. late night food trucks on College Ave were awesome!
I am an international student looking forward to Rutgers ? Any suggestions.... I am nervous and yet to give my SAT test stuff.... Did you gave it?... And what was yours? Cuz i am scared that I might get rejected ( tho i studied in international GCSE school here but still uk...)
Great video. Very accurate.
lol. what are the odds
Actually Brower has the best pizza and ice cream out of all the campuses!
So nothing has changed since 1969? Go figure.
Cousin took me to one of those housings. It's very dirty 🙃
Which is the best Penn state and Ohio state and Rutgers.
Sincerely,
Where'd you commit to?

1. Avoid going to Rutgers in the first place,
Why?....
harry potter rutgers stadium baseball
Fucking collage dylanraymond is stuied there as insterial Engineer
The Brower hate is so trite and stupid. But LOL at students who listen to other people/dumb videos like this and don't go try it for themselves. Brower has the best pizza, quickest stir fry, pasta, and omelet cook to order lines, and the most cereal choices. But hey, don't listen to me everyone and continue to avoid Brower. More food and available tables for those who recognize the hidden gem for what it is.
I went to Rutgers 99-03 ate at Brower maybe 15 times the other campuses really do have better dining halls although Livingston is about the same Busch n cook Douglas were way better
Krys Larit
I was there around the same time and one of them on the cook/douglas campus was terrible. Busch was awesome. Brower was not bad, and Livingston had an awesome breakfast
The RU screw, aka expos
Rugets

Avoid this school in general, there are better options.
Влад Кузь any other schools?
Влад Кузь why do u not recommend this school?
Um... Why? It is ranked top 25 best public universities in the US by US News Report... And top 100 best schools in the US in general. Is it bc you didnt get accepted into the University that u choose to hate on it?
He's unlikely to respond.
Yes, why do you not recommend Rutgers?
