    Mushandike was where the senior year from the primary schools used to go for a week to learn about conservation. I went in about 1974 and it was the best school trip ever. The rangers included Warden Ron Thomson who years earlier had been involved in the rescue of rhinos and relocation into national parks. While we were there a young hippo had died and we were allowed to watch the autopsy as the National Parks & Wildlife vet tried to figure out why it had died. We went on long walks in the bush and camped out for a night or two. I remember having to collect firewood as we were instructed to collect a pile "taller than a landrover". Anyone who got up in the night had to put another log on the campfire to keep the wild animals away. We had to follow spoor and pick up scat to try to work out what the animals had been eating. A great adventure for young kids, I hope that they continue to run these today.

      I did a week long school camp there in 1972. Totally agree that it was the best school trip ever! I still sometimes relay my experiences from that week, times I will never forget.

      Thank you so much. It's never too late to start. I know when I was a kid growing up in Zim it was always more exciting to go "down South" rather than travel in Zim and I think a lot of people thought like this. I suppose it's because we "lived in the bush" with even Harare at the time having a small town feel so it was exciting to go to the big modern city and beeches in SA.

    Greetings! I spent my 9th birthday at Brian's home in Inyanga in 1972. I know Ross very well. Brian was so good to us when we visited. He tok us to Pungwe Gorge and was an inspiration for me as a young writer.Brian worked my father JohnMartens in the NatalParks Board later. What a magnificent country!

    Hi Bruce, yet another great video! I just want to say, it is so nice to see that there are still overlanders that are showing us new places. I am so tired of Botswana and Kruger National Park videos. There is so much more to see than those two places. Every time you show me a bit more of Zim it makes me oh so keen to go with my Jimny! And by the way, your cinematography is getting pretty darn perfect! Well done! When are we having another get together like we did at Rietvlei? Keen to catch up again :)

    • @OverlandingwithBruce
      @OverlandingwithBruce  Před 10 měsíci +2

      Thanks so much. I agree but I think the unknown scares some people and some people just love Bots and Kruger and that's ok. I do think that you will start seeing more done on Zimbabwe as I know many people have now started to go there more.
      Yes we need another GTG soon.
