  • In Part 1, Dave at Vinyl Nirvana shows the tools needed for installing the spring kit as well as how to remove the old springs in a Thorens TD-160. The procedure is very similar for TD-145, TD-160 MKII, TD-145 MKII, TD-147, and TD-160 Super. Sold here: www.ebay.com/it...

    What is the change of the springs good for at all? They don't look broken.

    Hi Dave, can we say one of spring failure might cause outer plate to rub the surface?

    • @ddarch88
      @ddarch88  Před 3 lety

      Not necessarily. That could be just an issue with the adjustment.

      Three in One. About a dime size on your finger and coat the shaft. Drop it in gently. Spin.

    Interested in a spring kit for my original owner TD-166 mkII, but curious as to why it does not include new foam dampers? My springs seem OK, but the dampers are shot (like gone....).

    Hey Dave.. Hi. I just bought some replacement springs from your ebay shop. I have a td125... I installed and glued the springs without watching your videos on orienting the loose side of each spring towards the motor... Is that problematic? Thanks in advance

    I just got a Thorens TD160 Super and it needs attention. One channel is dead, the right channel is really low volume. I don’t know if it’s the cartridge or internal electrics. Any idea what it could be?

      Check the tone arm at threade connection. Both sides

    • @johnsweda2999
      @johnsweda2999 Před 5 lety

      More than likely the RCA connector, cut them off but good quality silver preferably not gold. or it could be the connecting leads from cartridge to headshell, Touch the leads with your finger the positives, while it's plugged into the amp at a reasonable volume you should be getting a buzz from both channels equally if this is the case RCA and cables are ok so it's more than likely the cartridge.

    And the point of the exercise is what is the point of changing the springs?

    • @DaveArchambault-VN
      @DaveArchambault-VN Před 5 lety

      Three springs holding up a seven pound platter system for almost 50 years. If you buy and install, you will see the ability to dial in a vertical bounce (with far less horizontal play) is drastically improved.

      When I refurbished my TD 126 MK II 10 years ago, the left rear spring had collapsed too much to restore level without a shim.

    *A question to the uploader:* I recently purchased a TD 160 in a mint condition, and everything is fine really. Today I decided to lubricate the main bearing and the shaft, but I cant remove the sub-platter. I can pull it up about 3-4 cm and then it stops as if there's a safety or something. Watching other videos I've seen that you just pull the sub-platter off and you can lubricate the main bearing. I tried to pull it off, but then I thought I might damage it... You got any idea of what might be the problem?
    Thanks in advance

    • @ddarch88
      @ddarch88  Před 4 lety +1

      At some point they introduced a platter catch. You need to remove the bottom and look for a screw close to the bearing well. Fully remove the screw, and slide the catch away from the well.
