  • Ego is not a thing, but a psychological process. It's the movement of mind as it interprets and interferes with experience. And this creates our self-identity. We do not need to kill the ego, but rather we are invited to see its mechanism and in this seeing is the potential to rest in the open moment without interpretation and without interference. This ends the egoic process in that moment. (A clip from a longer discourse given at an IN PERSON 6-day Retreat in Zion, Utah, November 2023).
Amoda Maa offers a profound invitation to all those who wish to embody the truth of awakened consciousness in the midst of everyday life. Her teachings are free of any ideology and are not affiliated with any lineage or tradition. And yet the luminous truth expressed through these teachings is the same nondual understanding at the core of many spiritual traditions. Amoda Maa’s teachings are expressed in a contemporary language, thereby cutting through millennia of patriarchal structure and making them relevant and accessible to all people from all backgrounds and cultures.

You are an absolute delight, Amoda. To come to the realisation that I am awareness & to soak in it has been life changing. I’m 47 yrs old & was seeking most of my life but solidly 12 years ago, I finally came home & saw through the illusion. I’m feeling it all, but whilst feeling it have a lasting sense of peace & bliss. I love you

A very clear and pragmatic description of ego - thank you. I worry how sometimes in spiritual or 'self-improvement' circles the ego is personified as some kind of demon to exorcise - which, in my view, is an unhelfpul way to look at it, even dangerous. Particularly for those who suffer from poor self-esteem or poor self-confidence. Your understanding here seems much more healthy and balanced.

So beautiful. The silence, the gap she takes in her discourse brings so much calmness to the listener (me here)

You are so precious. But those things you are talking about, you did not learn it, you have see it, feel it, know it directly. This means that to know, people must to have power, energy. Not just right informations. We need to increase our power, instead to take words. Thanks for giving direction, for being a living example

Since clearly seeing the egoic self as a mental construct, "my" life has unfolded without psychological suffering. This is the second discourse segment from Amoda's beautiful Zion Valley in-person retreat that I've seen posted. While my wife wished everyone that we met there a Merry Christmas on facebook, for any like me that avoid social media I wish you our best for the coming year, and our hope that we can again share such a memorable time together. For anyone else reading this, my hope is that you may have the opportunity to join us in these challenging times for so many.

The Ego, like the Self, is an illusion. What the Ego seeks, is what one already is, the Sought. Seeking moves one further from your True essence. Just Surrender. May you all be Healthy and Safe.

It’s a practical aspect of the mind.
Even Ramana Maharshi had an ego. He turned when someone called his name. It’s separation what is illusory.

To go on the spiritual path as a couple must be wonderful. I find it challenging sometimes to observe the ego at works in my husband and to see how much he doesn't want to self-reflect at all. For me, it is obvious that if, for instance, I always feel the need to complain about one thing, there is something about myself that I should be looking at. But he doesn't want to. 🤷‍♀️ he's lucky that I love him! Hahaha joke 😉
