  • I'm raising superworms for muh frog. This is what they get to listen to on the daily, and this time I decided to record them rather than me lmao.
I used the Terra and Cosmos as a pair, with some granular effects and a light reverb on the master.

whenever I see writhing worms, I can't help but think of the various Italian zombie horror films with maggots writhing in the flesh. ...... cool music too!

I know precisely the ones you mean haha
These zophobas seem to creep people out. I personally love these little armored caterpillars.
Did you know that this species of larvae are one of the only ones on this planet that can eat and thrive off of styrofoam for food? They may very well be a planet saving insect :)

I'm glad you dug it, Jon! I'm still exploring everything in my rig. Every piece is pretty deep, and I've been spinning my wheels a bit haha.
It's been best to just use 2-3 pieces and record.
Speaking of that, I got the pulsar patched in with the Stregas and Cosmos. The strega units can respond to the enners' body patching circuits, and man has that been wild with a massive octave down reverb. I've gotten nice metallic bells out of the stregas somehow. I gotta do some more patch exploring, and then I'll probably have some stuff to share later this week!
Oh yeah, the worms lol. I've been working on breeding them for my frog, so I don't have to have them shipped monthly. The beetles are shy but I'll eventually get some footage of them too haha

Waiting for the worms! Great Abyss, I really like this audio visual project of yours! A truly remarkable skill demonstration!

      Hey Maurizio!
I am glad that you enjoyed it!
I have been filming a decent amount of insects recently (I'm raising a few different species) to use for future pieces. I will have plenty of footage if you would like to use any!
I am going to have some exciting instrumentation arriving between now and late august that I am very excited to work with and show off.
Soon, I will have an Azzam bells MPA 019 and 023 kit in hand, and I'd love to collaborate a bit with you on some acoustic horror sound design.
If that's interesting, let me know haha. It'll be a bit of time before the instrument ships from Italy, and I'll need to practice up a bit before I'm good to go.

      I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I got tired of fighting for camera angles in my rig and figured I have a bunch of creeping crawlers (food for my frog and lizard) that I could film as a "real time visualizer" haha
Eventually, I'm gonna get my go pro in the tank during feeding time to edit up a bit and use for something lol

@Somnambule haha very true! I breed these bugs, so I always have a supply.
I have been taking field recordings from inside their enclosure with a stereo contact mic.
People find them creepy to look at, but wait until you hear what these armored caterpillars sound like moving through substrate haha
