    Full disclosure: I bought this drill press with my own money at my own will - need! If you think I've helped you make a decision and appreciate my approach of doing an objective review, looking at all sides, not just the side that would generate the most revenue for me, buying through these affiliate links helps support me (I earn a small percentage of sales). Thanks for your support!
    After buying this Chinese (MINIQ 710w bg-5156e mini drill press) on eBay and owning it for several months, I think it's time to make a review! I had wanted a drill press for years, I was so tired of wasting hours, HOURS, drilling holes in steel, with a hand drill, with with some far from the accuracy that I'd like. In this video I will review this drill press, and make sure to look at all sides fairly - including yours! This the first woodworking/metalworking tool review I've made on this channel, so if you think I did a good job and would be interested in seeing my opinions on other tools, please let me know!
    Overall, I'm very please with the drill press and am glad I bought it. I've saved hours so far, & don't know how many drill bits I've saved from breaking! I can drill dozens of holes in thick steel with a single drill bit, when in compared to a regular hand drill, the drill bit would've broken a long time ago. The drill press comes assembled out of the box, except for the base and handle, so it's not like you'll be wasting days assembling it like a CNC machine. Up and running in less than 5 minutes!
    My favorite thing about the drill press is that it's small, compact, and super lightweight since it's made mostly out of aluminum. This is important for me because I have to lift it out of my portable tool cart every time I want to use it. Regular drill presses are very heavy and would be a pain to lift every time. It also comes with a 13mm chuck that feels really solid. A big advantage of this drill press over others is the depth it can drill. Many mini drill presses can barely drill a hole 20mm deep. This one? 3X as much!
    I also like how to change the speed of the drill press: I don't have to mess with moving pulleys manually, which wastes a lot of time when in the middle of a project. The electronic speed control is very easy to use, but one downside is that the motor lacks torque at low speeds. You tend to have to turn the speed up to get more torque when the motor is bogged down. I also wish the motor wasn't as loud. But overall it's fine, I'm exaggerating.
    How much does it bend during hard drilling? Other than what I wrote in the video, on camera it looked to me like it bent less that usual. Might be only me, but the combination of a sharp drill bit and being more careless about the speed of the drill press because I was focused on the video. I measured the bending/weight with a scale, but it lowers unequally when under a lot of weight, A while back I had to drill 25mm wide ( I think) holes in thick steel, the drill press did manage to do it but it did bend more and did bog down, hole saws require A LOT of torque!

    Question: Great review! I have a very small leather shop. The size of this would be perfect. I would like to drill sewing holes for knives sheaths. The leather can reach 3/4 of an inch thick. I need to make holes 5/64 of an inch (1 to 2 mm). The holes would be 4mm apart. Could this drill handle something like that? Thank you.

      @@Yonatan24 At the top of a knife blade, a part that is called the choil, the blade gets kind of thick. so I have to build a wedge out of leather to compensate for the incline. When I use 10 oz leather on a sheath it can get kind of thick because the top and bottom and wedge is 10oz leather. I have never used a bit to drill this yet. I use a leather awl. I first make holes with my leather chisel but it is not long enough so then I use the awl. A drill press would be much faster. I just added a video to my channel of me making a sheath, check it out if you like, Thank you for the info and I will make a video of using the drill press to see if it is a better choice for knife sheath making. In any case I could sure use one of these. Perfect size for my room. Plus you have another subscriber. :)

    Nice demo, but I would advice against using it for drum sanding like that. Use an old drilling machine for that. Applying pressure from side is the worst thing you can do with a drill press, as it may cause internal wear and result in vibrations.

    • @Yonatan24
      @Yonatan24  Před 5 lety +1

      I can swivel it, but it wouldn't help in this instance because drill press column slides into the base if you know what I mean. Kinda hard to explain it..
      If you have a drill bit that for some reason won't fit through the hole in the base then it would help :)

    • @Yonatan24
      @Yonatan24  Před 5 lety +1

      I'm not sure how to explain it but since the column is held in the base, swiveling the drill press so the table is behind the drill press and drilling straight down is possible, but it wouldn't help in this situation because it would mean that there would still be space between the wood and the column, because of how it's mounted in the base/table.

    I am considering buying one myself. The only problem for me is that I need to drill holes at precise points, like I first mark where the hole has to be and then I drill. I see that this one flexes as you show at minute 3:00! Does it do that only on iron surfaces, or also on wooden surfaces? Wood and lead are the only material I work with..so, pretty soft materials.

    • @Yonatan24
      @Yonatan24  Před 3 lety +1

      It really depends how large the holes are and how often you want to use it. This isn't a heavy duty drill press. I use every few weeks and it's fine. But if you want to use it on a daily basis, I would get a proper drill press.
