Dean, a wonderful video! Short, sweet and to the point. Thanks for taking the risk, and thanks for enduring the cold just to shoot this video. 🥶👍🤛
Does this work for any year bmw I have a 96 328ic would it work on it as well
Thanks AJ
Yea, Spot on Dean👍. Although you may have some competition!!!! lol.... Dial into this old CZcams video. I won't place a link, so just type it in. >>>>>>>>.>>>>>> "BMW E39 5 Series Airbag Light Reset".......... WTF!!! unbelievable!!!!!
I did this on my 2001 740i a couple years ago and it worked brilliantly, cleared up a lot of little issues.
I did this several times on my 1999 740iL and it worked perfectly. I did not know it could be done on later models that require coding .
A very good tip! Thank you for that!
This works for me 👍 thanks mate
Dean you are a God. I just bought a 2005 530i E60 with 186000 kms in Australia. First BMW I have owned, and I'm blown away. Learnt heaps off your videos mate much appreciated. My Air back light is on permanently and am considering taking terminals off the battery and holding for ten seconds. Do I have to wait 15mins or can I put straight back on. Pretty sure I can put straight back on without waiting and turning lights on to drain car like you did in another video. If someone could let me know I would be so appreciative. I have no blue tooth but don't really care. Everything else is awesome.
Not sure about your troubles but to drain the battery yes, you can hold the leads together to drain quickly. I just took the leads off, removed the dead battery and waited ten minutes which worked as well.
Hell yeah brother I'm glad to see you are back with a vengeance love all your content brother
Brother Dean, Bless you with more Love. Before I and I🇯🇲 watched your video, it was just a wonder on just what to do. I and I🇯🇲 have a Beamer🦋 and like it a whole lot. And to mention the Abs, light recently jumped on, as we were mosing along, and before watching your video, we just didn't know what to do. Haven't tried it as of yet, still certain that it's going to work. Thank you so much, Love you Man, Bless up🌄🌌⛪🇯🇲🌍🐞🦋👫🏿🏖🌻🐝🙏🏿🙏🏿
Love that engine purring, lol...! Having no other issues , after Mom had nieces mechanic change my cheap choice of ATE (?) rotors from FCP, to BMW rotors to fix the vibration. By way of persons such as yourself I thought of doing a brake fluid flush also but we have not had to do that yet. But in the process of me contemplating the brake fluid flush one day I pulled the cap on the steering fluid saw that it was not even on the stick though there was at the bottom reservoir showing fluid. I bought some press tone European power steering fluid and added their to but liberally must have put a 1/4 cup over . We have no digital display of any problem but steering went out and was hard like old-school manual steering for Mom that evening. So a friend suggested the battery reset and I will suck out the excess fluid while it is resting. Hopefully power steering pump is not ill. I watched your video where you suggest Forte... But I must do what I can in the interim before buying any other products. I did order a Euro parts reservoir to change it if need be. Waiting on that arrival...
Just checked on after Mom parked it for a few days . The belt fried . Shreds all over the place.
I have been doing this for over 30 years. Days before diagnostics were different than today. There use to not be any live data. The first BMW to get obd I was the 87 E30 325i had motranic 1.1. I have a old tool for all the 20 pin cars and when I first got live data I was wondering why all cars didn't have it. Well they have more live data than I ever dreamed of.
Hey there. Sorry bugging you but you might know this. I own a E36 92 323i and lately I got the Check Control Inactive warning on the display. I´ve checked most forums etc, and they all talk about reseting the computer by doing the battery thing or pressing 1000 10 simultaneously. But man, I can´t get it to work. What would you recommend? Thanks
can i do this on my 128i?
Dean,you're a star...thank you very much
u rock -- this cleared the abs and engine check dashboard lights which were coming on intermittently on my e90 325i also auto felt much smoother afterwards :) all now sweet as!
will it reset the cd player ? i got random wheel sensor code but no issue reported when check it so thinking this might work for me 2006 e46 320 ci
@@floatfacebook2013did you try it out
I and I🇯🇲 am so Hapi🐞 that I read your comment, just strolling and looking for someone who would say that it worked for the Abs, light. As I and I🇯🇲 Abs, light is on as well, Thank you for just commenting, means Worlds to Us. Bless up with Love🌄🌌⛪🇯🇲🌍🐞🦋👫🏿🏖🌻🐝🙏🏿🙏🏿
can i do this on my 128i?
Thank you fo0r this video. I knew about the procedure quite a while ago, b7ut did not know if it would require any coding of the battery or other components. My E38 didn't require coding. Now I feel more confident in dong this before biting the bullet and taking my F01 to the shop (multiple misfires I can't eliminate with plugs and coils).
A tym resetem da się wyeliminować wypadający zapłon
Wow very good job really l like it every day we learn so think GOd bless you
Would the same reset technique be safe and effective for a year 2000 BMW E46 model?
I've been trying to learn circuitry. We drain capacitors with resistors . You can get 100 for cheap cheap but 1 will work. Probably a much safer way to connect the leads to "drain circuit reserves"
Try draining then with a bulb
@@thelocomechanic ,Hi... ok so DEAN video here has the rear trunk lid open correct, so it is drained anyways now, because of the cab light, Also interior lights in the vehicle that is ON when dean opened the rear lid cover, so technically, you really dont need a bulb correct, because it has drained the reserved electricity in the system correct ...As Dean shows,If 2 cables is touched togather the capacitors are completely drained as we know, So DEAN has Completely, drained all of the current everywhere. i did read someplace that a person should not touch 2 cables togather , im not sure if it pertained to BMW or some other vehilcles, But again Dean proved it its ok and, no problems ty
There's probably enough resistance in the wires.
Well touch them connected to the battery will cause a lot of problem
Hi. Good vid for some cars. Does not work on older 2006 X3. Some replacement parts have to be programed and reset with the scan tool. Example: pedal position sensor, front differential oil changes, transfer case actuator if new. There are other systems that need programming. So, just touching the battery cables does not fix all problems. Cool channel by the way.
THANK YOU!! Just saw this after leaving a comment on the older video. Me and my 2013 750i Thank you!!
Did it work? I wonder if after a change of battery this will do the trick instead of going to dealer for them to register it on my 2009 750i.
@@wilben14 I don't think so, it's not the same "thing". I recently bought Bimmercode to be able to change "battery size" from 90 Ah AGM to 105 Ah AGM in my 2011 X3/F25 30d. Then I need for instance Bimmerlink to register a new battery.
I also have problems with a bunch of fault codes (about 10-13) that appear as I fire up the engine.
4-5 of them belong to 10 (100xxx). They can be cleared, but show up as I start the engine.
I haven't observed any problems with these codes.
Hello. Thank you for sharing this video but I have a question in regards to the other cars, does this method works only for BMWs only or it could be used on any other cars in order to clear the system? Regards
Hi Dr hope ur good and well happy new year
Hi, thanks for the video. How does it work on BMW 550i F10?
Your videos have been helpful. Will this work on 2011 740Li F02 n54

Hi mate, really admire your videos! Love them BMW'S. I've recently got e90 325i N53. I wonder if i can get in touch with you cuz i want to do the firmware. I live in the UK by the way and I'll be thankful if we can meet.
works on most manufacturers! all youve done differently is discharge any excess charge quicker?
Hey Dr Sean, I have a BMW 2010 135i E88. The set of ABS set of lights of death come on a year back. The light would be gone when I reset the tpms every time. Now the lights are permanent and I am unable to reset the tpms where the reset only showing the square box without being ticked. Pls kindly advise your thoughts. Thanks.
My E60 suddenly wouldn't start this evening, had to get the AA out to look at it. They diagnosed the battery sensor as faulty. They've temporarily disconnected this and the car starts fine now. Is this much of an aggro to replace? I've noticed that the car doesn't go into sleep mode either as the light on the transmissiom remains illuminated. But unsure if this was related to the battery sensor or if that's a separate issue. It's good to see you back Dean. Love your content and thanks to you or any of the people who see this comment in advance for any help that you may be able to offer me. 😊
Having the same issue have you found a fix?
IBS negative battery cable

Blower motor final relay

Did the same procedure on an LS Lexus to reset the factory immobilizer.
Hello there DOC. i have been a fan of your channel for awhile now. I have question. I hope you can give me some advice. I have 2007 530I. i have the red steering wheel lock symbol. I bought a brand new high voltage battery. is it anything that i can do to get this back going myself.. thanks for any kind of advice....
Dean, do you know how to reset the tire pressure on a 2007 BMW 328 xi? It has a heat unit or CCC that is not working, help with that would also be greatly appreciated, and of the videos I have seen on how to reset the tire pressure, do not work on this E90 BMW. Thanks!
Thanks a lot mate. Does this work on ANY other car too? Thanks
Wow! I just got a 750 li project car and now I want to try this. Thank you, Sir
did it work?
No one ever answers back smh
Never heard of this method before but interesting to know. But how about the gearbox iteself? If you reset that one doesn't it need relearning? The whole cumbersome process of driving slow, accelerating, coasting back to initail speed, then manually selecting gears up to the last one and accelerating and coasting back again several times etc etc....?
thanks doctor. my lights only came on when starting my car. no indicatros or hazards. told it was Light control Module. reset as you said. and reset ECU. it WORKED. reconnected and all working fine thx mate
How long before the CEL come back on?

Do I have to re-register my battery after resetting the computer? Thanks for the very informative video!
I own a 2007 520D E60. Do you have any insight on FC 46D1? There are a couple of other codes the popped up along with 46D1. 3F31, 4203, 4212, & 4222. The codes aside from 46D1 is something I can manage replacing parts for. But 46D1 is pointing at replacing the DDE. Is that the only solution when this code shows up? I need some advise on this.. Appreciate any help.

Hello
I have replaced the front plates and the front sensor cable, the cable broke in half and I don't know how, but I soldered it back because I didn't have a new one with me, now when I start the brake light comes on as a warning, just like before I it's broken, it won't reset via the display. I wonder if the brake warning light would go out in this way, as you have now shown. Well, will the hidden functions be canceled -restored, thanks in advance for the answer. it is a bme F11-2015 2.0 D, 191hp :)
In BMW dealerships we call this a battery reset. This is not risky at all.

I have 2014 F30 that I recently gave to my son and picked up a 2023 G30. I love G30 because of the added space (being 6’ it’s awesome) and also loved the F30. I have a bit of a problem though right now with the G30. I installed an amp and sub into the F30 by tapping a LOC to the speaker wires myself. I then picked up the 2023 G30 and thought I could do the same but now I have no sound and the driver assistance warning systems are not working either. Any ideas? I put Everything back together but it hasn’t corrected yet. Do I need to drive it more for it to reset or do I need to do a reset? PLEASE HELP!

Can I safely do this on my car ? Many thanks in advance keep up the awesome work.
It seems to work at least on cars before 2010. But safely? Not really. There is a but! When reconnecting you must be absolutely sure that the voltage in the battery is high enough. What can that mean? I guess 1) fully charged 2) maybe the voltage must be over 12.6 V.
A fully charged "bad" battery doesn't reach 12.8-12.9 volt, maybe not even 12.6 volt. Measured the day after charging.

If they don't reach one another, after the terminals have been disconnected from the battery, you could use booster cables as a go between. They don't have to physically 'touch' each other.

Minus first always! You did the same observation as I did.

It's not very good to let it spark either.
But the fault is currently still in the ECU so it will not show up until you have run the car a couple of cycles.

Hi Dean, I'm watching your videos from Switzerland, I just see skills and knowledge here thanks for that. I wanted to know if it's fine to disconnect the battery cables, despite having the little red and black plastic boxes/plates/stuff (the IBS system) at each battery terminal. How to proceed correctly with those stuff? I let the plugged in? It is maybe wrong or not relevant for a reset, but I though having the IBS disconnected may shorten the lifespan of the battery afterwards (maybe relevant for a battery charging or battery replacement ??). Thanks a lot for your attention. With best regards. K (owner of a BMW 118D, E87 - LCI, from 2009).
I am doing this reset right now. I needed a bolt and washer to connect the positive cable because of the plastic housing around it. Put the washer over the bolt, then insert the bolt and washer through the bottom of the cable terminal, pull it up tight and connect a jumper cable to it to hold it in place. Connect the other end of the jumper cable to the negative cable and you get let it proceed.
Can you do this with an older battery as well ?
I have a 2001 BMW X5 e53, will this method work?
I have a steering wheel lock message that won't go away. The wheel isn't locked and starts up fine. This didn't clear it. 2006 e60 530xi. Any ideas?
Thank you.
