Thanks for all the love! Definitely was a stressful day, and in the moment you get overwhelmed but thankfully I am all and well. Very fortunate that the locals fix my tyre for free, and multiple people paid for my petrol to get to Da Nang. I didn't film everything as you'd imagined I wouldn't have been in the mood.
Managed to get a debit card sent over to me from Australia and got an emergency passport as well. I'll definitely be heading back shortly to finish off this series 😊

There's a Vietnamese saying: "Của đi thay người" [Property goes instead of people]. If you lose your credit cards, your visa, your money; you can have them back later. However, if you lose your life, it's over! Remember your life, your health is more important than anything else. Now you are home safely, and that counts. Just be more careful next time.

    Lessons, often not for free.
    1. Don't put your CC's and reserve money in a bag. Always put them in a secure place with you like in the front pocket of your pants, so that they can't easily fall of or get pickpocketed (more of an issue in touristy cities), or money pouch/belt. Of course same goes to your PP and other important documents. I always put my PP, some reserve money and at least one CC in a money pouch, easy to carry with when needed to, otherwise it goes straight into hotel room safety box. If needed to, put some emergency money elsewhere in case of getting robbed or something (very unlikely in SE Asia). Also recommended to carry smaller amount of cash for every day use in a separate place (another pocket).
    2. For road trips, buy a puncture repair spray can, they are small and easy to carry with.

    For what it’s worth-
I always divide everything up into 3 or even 4 different places-
Pocket money for coffee and bĂĄnh mĂŹ-
Large cash stashed in a zipper pocket in travel pants. Passport in backpack- bank card in another zipper pocket-
I make multiple copies of my passport and e Visa.
Put extra bit of emergency money in the motorcycle storage space for emergency repairs like flat tires or gas.
Travel pants are key and worth the extra money. Get the cargo style with zippered pockets- they are great on the days of traveling on the bike. Even when leaving the hotel room to take all of your stuff with you.
On my next trip , I will buy AirTags like some here suggest. My buddy uses them and I am sold .
I rode for 2 months in VN- everyday is an adventure. Shit happens on the road, you must be prepared. You will find yourself way out in the country with no services or hotels nearby- thank god the people are the nicest people on the planet- those farmers and construction workers, fishermen will help out if they can. And usually there is someone that is happy to help you.

hi david. glad to hear the bummer chapter is now over for you. Its an experience. Ups and downs in life, especially in adventures, on a solo trip particularly is something inevitable. very happy you made it back with help from many, the good deeds come with some too. ah man... the sign at the start was something you can reflect upon! things don't happen for no reason, apparently. hey! bonus if what's been lost is found, highly unlikely, however, life goes on. take care pal. its not the end of the world yet :)

I remember Paddy Doyle left a GoPro on his bike whilst he went into a temple and it was gone when he came out.
I think he also lost his wallet whilst riding. It fell out if his pocket and he backtracked but couldn't find it.
There were 2 guys riding Kawasakis 250s through Vietnam and one of them lost his bag off the back of his bike. They went to the Police station and there was a guy sitting there who had just handed it in.
So you are not the only one this has happened to David.

Life throws us these curve balls from time to time. Some days you wake up and everything just seems to be going wrong. I lived long enough to recognize the signs, and immediately slow down, cancel plans, and take it easy for the day. Those things that go wrong earlier often warp your head and cause you to forget stuff or make more mistakes. Also, when you run into problem with your bike, you can just ask the nearest local, they'll point you to the nearest repair shop. Locals don't use Google Maps, and their bikes break down too.

Very upsetting to lose such important documents and access to money.
I always split cash into 3. Bumbag, Wallet, pocket, phone case or backpack.
I take 2 different cashcards from different banks.
Passport I usually have on my Bumbag strapped across my chest. I usually have a photo copy of the details page. I never hand it over for rentals etc etc.
The problem with travel is that you are often distracted and out of your normal routine habits of doing things. I have heard many tails of guys stopping on their motorcycles and placing gloves or something else on the back or unstrapping a bag to get access and forgetting about them when they get back on.
