He's patient and merciful! I fell behind after my fiance passed away. We always talked about what I learned with each reading. I'm getting back into knowing God better than ever. I read my Bible today!

God brought judgment on His people for their idolatry and disobedience. He requires that we worship Him and Him alone. He is worthy to be praised.

I'm 9 days ahead and the more I get into the word the more I love it, I love how the Lord warned then over and over, shows his mercy and the people keep doing the same, makes me look at myself a little closer 🫤 not a bad thing but I need to improve. Living the journey Tera thank you for your insight and commentary and your love for the LORD!

As I was reading I was thinking "What are these people's problem with the worshipping of false gods?!" But then I think about the world we currently live in and we worship false gods of other names and we probably don't even realize it. Things that take us far from God but aren't as obvious as a golden calf.

It’s hard not to get down and think we suck - why doesn’t God just give up on us 😢

“They worshiped worthless idols themselves, and became worthless” (2 Kings 17:15). We are made for worship, in our essence. We give value to something greater than ourselves, because we know that something’s missing. It’s no wonder that these kings and people forgot God when what they worshiped was about materialism and sex. Sound like just about every ad or show on TV? It’s no surprise that if I worship lust because I don’t trust God for fulfillment, that my identity will be defined by lust. But when I raise my hands in surrender, and ask for the peace and power of the Holy Spirit, my lack is filled with His grace. And that reshapes me into His Son’s image, a little more every day.

That was so helpful. I love seeing how patient God was in this passage despite the fact that the Israelites did not deserve it. Thanks for the encouragement to not beat myself up for not being where I want to be in the plan. I am trying my best to keep taking it one day at a time until I finish. Like you said, I am still reading more than I would on my own.

Aloha and praise the Lord BR family. I am so glad that I chose this plan. One new thing I have learned starting this plain another name for the Lord which Yahweh. It's surprising to read about the kings worshipped idol gods. My motivation is to keep my eyes focus on God. 1 Corinthians 13:7, "He always protects, always trust, always perseveres". He is where the JOY!!

Syncretism: the combination of different forms of belief or practice.
The ancient Greeks mainly used the term synkrētismos to describe the joining together of Greeks in opposition to a common enemy. In the early 17th century, English speakers adopted the term in the anglicized form syncretism to refer to the union of different religious beliefs.
So often today we hear people who say they believe in God, but they also believe in other gods, such as buddha or other practices. They want to follow other religious practices because they appeal to us on emotional level. We may try to do what is right according to society and accept all people's beliefs, but in reality God asks us to follow him and Him alone. We cannot have both the Christian God and be open to other ways of believing. The history of the Israelites shows us that this is unacceptable to our God. He has a reason for this: He knows we will draw further and further from Him. He is protecting us with His commands.

    Day 196
Ahaz is the king in the final days of Judah. He is a bad king. He builds idols and offers child sacrifices.
Because of Judah’s sins God allows them to suffer defeat at the hands of Syria and Israel.
When the people of Israel try to enslave the people of Judah a prophet Obed rebukes them.
In response, they put clothes on the captives and take them back home to Judah.
Judah gets attacked again. King Ahaz does not go to God. He goes to the king of Syria instead and attempts to bribe him with goods he stole out of God’s temple.
King Ahaz walked in the fear of man and not the fear of God.
King Ahaz sacrifices to foreign gods, destroys the temple of God and then locks the temple!
King Ahaz tells the priests to make foreign altars and they do it. The priests of God make these altars to false Gods!
All of the leaders and priests were wicked.
King Ahaz set up these alters all over Judah. They were the ruin of King Ahaz and of all the kingdom.
King Hoshea is the King of Israel- the northern kingdom.
He paid yearly tribute to the King of Assyria but then stops. So Assyria attacks and takes them into exhile.
God had warned the people over and over but they would not turn away from their idolatry. They did what was right in their own hearts.
Eventually, we become like what we worship. Whatever we fix our eyes on, begins to capture our hearts and minds, and it gradually reshapes us.
The Assyrians bring in other captives into the vacant Samaria. These people worship the false gods of their other country.
God is still working out plans to sanctify the promised land. The inhabitant people are killed by lions.
The King of Assyria sends back some Israelite priests. But these priests were wicked. They fuse worship of Yahweh with worship of false gods.
Through these books we see God warning Israel and Judah by every prophet and every seer to turn back to Him.
God has been so long suffering.
God sent them multiple warnings over the centuries.
God sends them into captivity to reveal their true captivity-they were held captive by their idols.
Only in exhile do they see that.
It is an act of great mercy on God’s part.
God is patient, long suffering and so merciful.
