- Last spring, Steve decided to pass up an opportunity to kill a black bear in favor of an extended up close and personal experience. This time, Steve heads back to his shack on Prince of Wales Island and he’s brought his friend Paul Neess from Vortex Optics along to share the experience of using a canoe to slip in close to these giant black bears.

"Don't pass up something on the first day, you'd be happy to have on the last"
That's solid advice.
@GrowingLifeOrganics ...any port in a storm
Many times I have taken nice healthy does on the first day, when the rest of camp gets skunked waiting for bigger deer. Meat in the freezer over antlers on the wall, any day.
I got another. “A wet bird never flies at night.”
@@thanos9846 I have a friend that does that! Problem is there is a quarter the meat on a doe compared to a big mature white tail.
@@truenorth1355 gotta get another tag. Get that guaranteed food, then get that food and trophy. Or just the food and trophy, I’m not your boss you hunt how you like as long as it’s clean
I could listen to Steve describe how to fold toilet paper for the perfect wipe, just a joy to listen to
Yeah! His show is amazing! It mixes up adventure, cooking, guns, fashion and great sounds, including the voice of his passion and enthusiasm!!!
He has the ability to tell a story perfectly
🤣🤣
you are right love how he tells a hunting story
I could listen to him plow my wife
“You almost just have to pull them out to appreciate how beautiful” as the eyes are bulging out of its skull and he’s shoving the busted gland back down his throat 😂😂😂
Draws a limited tag in prince of wales for a bear hunt and rinella tells him listen buddy we're crabbin.
I tell newbies (trust the process)
And you seen the results😎
@@alpinealaska8454 Hell yeah.
There’s not many things higher on my bucket list than this.
I did the same thing and some douch bag called me sad! What do they know eh?
Very doable and affordable. This is one of the few hunts he does that is actually as easy as it looks.
I wish i had some cash layin around for that permit man
Joe Rogan: Okay, but have you tried DMT?
From a technical standpoint, this episode is actually really well made. The cinematography and music just stand out, idk why
Subtle emphasis
Are you in the industry?
@@dominicjohnson8427 Im only 15 but its what I want to go into
If you’re into it then go for it youngster 👍
Hey Colin, feel free to join the "New to Hunting" facebook group if you want. You may already do it, but its a good supportive network for helping each other improve all aspects of hunting and hunting-related life.
Who else is in a town or City wishing you were there💯
I wish I could go hunting with Steve, he’s my inspiration to not only educate myself on hunting animals, but how important it is to do things out there with integrity and respect for the land and animals giving their lives to help ours thrive. I look forward to his commentary and stories during hunts.
I Love when you have episodes at your cabin. I enjoy watching you catch crab, shrimp, get muscles, and hunt there. It’s a really awesome place.
I think every young hunter should watch this man's shows, and listen closely. He is a true outdoorsman and it's really good to see, especially when so many people have absolutely no idea what hunting is really about.
man, Steve, I'm always impressed by your skinning ability and care of pelts/hides so that the taxidermist has little to no problems in the finishing process. You make it look too easy, which comes from much experience. Love your videos!
Another great episode. Steve weaves the English language together like a fine chef mixes ingredients together to make a fine dish.
A fine dish like a salmon roulade mixed with bear meat, pulled pork and a supporter of the austro-Hungarian empire born on the 16th of may 1843. A fine dish undead to be consumed on the 8th day of the 8th month while wearing pink socks.
One of the best TV shows out there. Not just one of the best hunting shows, but one of the best out of all TV shows. Period.
What a beautiful hunt. Setting was gorgeous
Looked like the ideal, perfect, all around hunt
He's managed to win a tag in every place that is a once in a life time opportunity, amazing
My Friday fix. Wait all week for the MeatEater episode and am never disappointed.
Same
For real
It's not new.
@@duckwacker8720 first time seeing it.
This is the most beautiful and meditative show ever produced.
Unless Steve is doing injured animal noises.
The episodes up at your cabin with fishing and hunting is what got me hooked on your show. Hopeful for more!
I'm in love with the cabin. Shooting and seafood are a dream
One of your best episodes yet, due to the location and abundance of wildlife. Livin the life that’s for sure
Man Steve is a good dude. All his buddies are really cool guys too
I would give anything to take a trip to Alaska with Steve. What a guy!
I could only dream of hunts like this! What a bucket list trip! Awesome stuff!
You all are artists just as much as you are hunters. Steve is a national treasure
Living in Alaska is such a blessing I have lived here my whole life and just watching other people enjoy what I get to do almost everyday in the summer is awesome
Another great video Steve,I love the variety of your videos man, keep on hunting brother!
Best show ever
He should get millions subscribers, video quality, hunt, cooking, his voice n expression … As I am a nurse n get relief from his videos, always waiting for his new videos. Keep up Steve, wish I get that opportunity.
Only hunting show I watch during the summer. Man, I miss hunting season.
Love the pinky pushing the swim bladder back in all casually
Amazingly clear video! KUDOS! I really enjoyed the shots of the crystal clear water, wow! A great time for two lefties and the evening stir fry is exactly (sub venison or wild hog) what I cook at home in San Antonio, Texas. More steamed rice please!!
With such beautiful scenery, it's not a bad thing to be in that area for more time hunting! Would love to see it first hand!🙏🤗
I’d give up my leg to go hunting with Steve. I’m a newbie and I can only imagine the learning and experience I’d get from a guy like em. My bucket list experience
Clean shooting!
Much love friends.
I could watch these all day.
Thoroughly enjoyed this show and just wanted to be there....truly entertaining!
I'd love to have an Alaskan Hunting camp !
So go get one. Sayin that shit on CZcams won’t do it! Just do it already haha you won’t regret it

Sweet! Thanks Steve!
Steve is a fantastic story teller.
This would be a great experience! I add this type of trip to the list.
Welcoming episode for a Friday.
That's a perfect week right there! Just don't see how it can be better.
Excellent stuff bro
Loving this material from one meat eater to another I also like the fact you discussed the whole don't pass up something the first day you'd take The last I'm with you on that I pass up several bucks that I would take on the last day to stretch my season especially here where we get 1 buck tag.
Great episode! 👍
That’s a awesome place thank you !!
Always good watch specially when steve is the presenter!
This is one of my favorite episodes- so interesting and amazing….Ive seen it prob 30xs now. 😂
Definitely one of my bucket list would love to get over to america and hunt with Steven
Being a hunter here in Australia it was an awesome journey you took us on. Never thought of what bear tasted like but well done and awesome shot👍
Great episode
Loved this one
Most excellent video thanks buddy 👍
I’ve seen several good bears up on the north end of POW this season. Awesome place and lots of bear.
That bear hide was gorgeous!
Great hunting show bro!!!
Always a joy
That was one sweet cape job
Great show....
Why is it people get so mad if you want a nice large animal to take home but not bat a eye when people fish for the biggest fish they can catch. As I got older I have started to understand the importance of selective harvesting and understand the mindset of the animals. When population is poor the animal focuses on population. When population is high they focus on being the biggest around. Until we learn to help them we will only eat off all our food. Great hunt guys watching your video are always inspiring to get back out and enjoy the outdoors.
It’s called catch and release
Because bears procreate at much lower rate and success than fish? Taking out an apex predator in a ecosystem has HUGE impact up to dozens of miles away. Completely different and less sustainable than fishing.
@@c4n4d4 actually over-fishing is globally a bigger problem than over-hunting!
@@Debbiebabe69 I know that. over fishing is just as big of an issue.
Enjoyed respectively as Always. 😗
Steve’s happy place wow gorgeous 😇❤️😎
'Let's just give him a few minutes, Steve. " Beautiful and sad
The momemnt you see Steve you hit the like button, at the very beginning of the video .... amazing hunt 👏
Love this CZcams content!
I lived there 7 yrs.caught crab in same spot but king crab.there are much larger bears there.they were lucky to get that nice of weather.i felt soo at home watching this.great job u guys
Steve I love watching your videos omg they are good 👍🏻
Fantastic episode, and a beautiful bear.
I love this show!!!!
I’ll skip the bear meat and go directly to the fish and chips!😂
Missing out!
Eagle eyes alright Steve true story. Awesome videos Champ.. 😎👍
Always watching your channel meateater nice hunting..godbless
Bears are one of my fav mammals, I don’t view them as food. Since Steve has been showing me how good they taste I’m ready to try one. 🐻
You can bet Steve that fella had good time at camp Alaska 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Those geese just flew the missing man formation over you guys for the bear.
The tension in this episode, I'm guessing there's a lot we didn't see 😂
"Me too...Steve Isdahl." Best on u tube
You can successfully release rockfish. We are required to have a descending device in Washington specifically to release yelloweye. If you rig your jig upside down barbless and send it down the fish will swallow it's air bladder and shake off.
I'm very thankful for ya having me out!! Steve( aw mm well I owed ya one hahahah
That's good bear meat!!
Hahahah
There’s that one guitar riff on the soundtrack that’s the Meateater version on “Keyboard Cat.”
"You cant shoot from a boat" Greenland Inuit "Hold my beer"...
Nice weather
Good shot! And he even did it from the wrong side of the rifle!
Good show
I can’t get enough of Steven rinella!
They make a descender for rock fish, believe they are now required in Alaska but yes always keep them rather than sending back for a bigger one.
thanks for showing me good starting point! theres not much on pow that is all rocky like this... 👍
cant wait to move up to the southeast
Spring Black Bear is the tastiest of all.
Man! What I would give to be there chasing black bears...damn it man!
And from a canoe?!?! Heck yeah! Not to mention Old Town’s are just about the best commercial canoe made and it’s even better.
We need new content mate. Love your videos. Cheers Todd New Zealand
This is an amazing video. One week of 2 good friends enjoying the life of a free land free of any commercial distractions. Just loving the outdoors and what Mother Earth has to offer. It takes knowledge and experience to have a successful time in the great outdoors. You guys had great fishing, crabbing, and one heck of a bear hunt. I, like you, would have gone for the full rug on this bear. Save wall mounting for another bear maybe with a few flaws.
Very nice 🐻 man and video 🎉
yum,,looks good
Place seems like heaven to me...
Yeah buddy
Love some meateater videos
Thanks steve °°°~ stay safe
#peacelovehealthnhappines
Super cool 😎
Dream hunt🙌🏼
Skowl arm is a cool spot haha
I notice that the canoe you guys are using is an Old Town. I live the next town over in Bangor. I've watched for years and I really enjoy your content.
