      Those in the new CapitaSpring office tower, like the M-Line ones, sometimes overshoot the floor slightly & then will self-correct (most obvious in the lifts serving the attached hawker centre, as the doors have windows). While I heard this allows the M-Line lifts to decelerate later & thus run faster, sadly in CapitaSpring it takes like 4s to self-correct, which instead slows them down

    I think that first lift was probably a friday afternoon job. Why would anyone who has the slightest passion for their job bodge it up so badly. Can be one of these things: 1. It had to be done before the weekend no matter if it looks nice it just has to basically work. 2. Lift engineer who’s not happy about his job and couldn’t care less or has low job satisfaction. 3. A boss or a client who pressures to get the darn thing done by 5 o’ clock.
    Any industry has people who are lazy and do it just for the money, contrary to those who are passionate about their job and are eager to get better at it. I don’t think that bigger lift companies always have better lift engineers, some small companies can have really good and experienced ones. It depends, maybe with big companies the slackers get less noticed as they have collueges who fix the bad work of their lesser collegues. Ultimately I think it comes down to experience and passion for the job if a lift engineer is good at his job, regardless if they work for a small company or big one. Also in the building industry I see this mentality of fixing it quick and dirty way too often and some people are really only interrested in making money and are not too passionate about their work. The main reason why things get bodged is because of the age old “time is money” and pressure for clients to get it done as quick as possible. You don’t really notice this much if you’re outside looking in but it happens on every workplace. It’s just the way things are in a commercial buisiness. It’s sad but true.

    my tower block has jackson lifts. They are out of service and/or left on inspection control more than half of the time, and when they’re actually in service, many know such great qualities as...
    > The left lift refusing to call at the 4th Floor
    > A “”lift engineer”” who programmed the left lift to wait at every floor for 15 seconds before departing (they eventually fixed this)
    > The lifts often going to the floor of the button pressed, only for the doors to not open, and for it to return to ground

    I know the Bromley Otis mod has a lot of faults, but do you not think the reason why the lift doesn’t open both sides on the UM floor at once (and maybe the reason it was modded at all) is probably to do with the mall being on one side and Waterstones on the other, and is deliberately done to try and stop shop thefts? Ie so you can’t just walk through the lift on the UM floor with both the doors open, rather than just bad programming? I know it’s not infallible but it definitely makes it more difficult, just a thought.

    If I went into this Modernised 2000VF, I would definitely not safety break it because it will go out of service for 10-15 minutes since it is using Lester Controls.

    • @benolifts
      @benolifts  Před 5 lety +4

      Lester controls will continue straight away if the safety break was very short (less than a couple of seconds). If the safety break lasted for longer then the lift would go out of service for 10-15 minutes before starting again. If the lift was put on inspection then normal the lift would restart after just 30 seconds. But if a button was pressed inside the lift then the lift would start straight away. Inside calls are responded to differently to outside calls and make the lift do something immediately, when outside calls are handled by the group control part of the software (even if it is a single lift) and won't accept calls if it sees all lifts in the group are out of service. Also the lift would start straight away if you pressed an inside button because no lift logic wants to trap passengers.

    My dad works at a shopping centre and is the handyman there. They had old Otis lifts that kept breaking down almost every week, like really badly (refused to serve calls, buttons gave people electric shocks, I think even the cables kept slipping sometimes). Then he took in the cold truth and decided modernisation. Immediately loads of generic lift companies offered to replace them, (nearly accepted one from apex lifts) but he was talking about it while taking me to school and I recommended Kone. They now have 4th gen LCE Ecodiscs in the old motor room.

    • @benolifts
      @benolifts  Před 9 měsíci

      The entire lift's metal surfaces are all earthed, so it is impossible to get a shock from it. If the earth link failed then that is a very serious matter and is a very serious failure by the company that was servicing the lift, nothing to do with the lift model. Another reason for electric shocks is because of the air conditioning giving out charged air, then when someone touches any earthed surface the built up static charge in their body is earthed, giving the false perception that it was the metal surface giving the shock. Secondly, if the lift was not serving calls then that is because the maintenance company don't know what they are doing of. To me this sounds like the maintenance company did a very bad job at servicing the lift, and tried to cover up their own failure by claiming that the lift needed replacement. I have both heard of, and seen for myself, countless examples of lift company's deliberately maintaining lifts badly then claiming they need to modernize them.

    At Ashford international, the awesome 1970s Kone lifts got modernised by stannah, and it sickens me that my favourite model of lift got replaced, why do all British train stations need their lifts to be modernised by stupid stannah, in fact, those stannah lifts are more narrow than the old kone lift at Ashford station, AND THEY GOT RID OF THE BLOODY DISNEY LIFT, it's now disgusting inside that thing, it's super boring, and the awesome doors opening sound no longer exists, well done Ashford international, you ruined the lifts and stopped the class 465 going there

      @daredevil3744 Před 4 lety

      This is because Stannah is working with Network Rail to ensure accessibility at every station across the UK, and so a lift made by a lift comp any would be incompatible with the stations.

    Kone Needs To Replace The Lifts At The Glades Bromley With Ecodiscs

    • @benolifts
      @benolifts  Před 5 lety +1

      Only if it is set up well and has pre-doors. A Kone can just about match the journey time until doors open of a Schindler M series only if pre-doors are enabled. The final leveling stage is slower on a Kone, when a Schindler prioritizes journey time over everything and does not care if it overruns the floor slightly and has to relevel.

      Kone's levelling system is shaft bar and tacho. It is better than most but does the last bit of levelling slowly because it is scared of overrunning. It is not as good as Schindler, but if the engineer has set it up nicely and it has pre-doors, the journey time with the doors shut is no longer than Schindler, so in that sense it is pretty much as good as an M series.
