I've found many a Viva paper towel in my dryer after going through the wash (on accident, left in a pocket), and they're straight up ready to be used again. They're like cleaning cloths. #1 in our home.

Keep in mind too that it may cost more upfront but you end up using a lot less. I use Bounty I buy on sale on Amazon or BJs. I accidentally brought their regular rolls one time and usually a big pack last me 2 months... this time it last me 3 weeks 🤦🏾‍♀️ so I pay much more attention

Just for fun, they should have included the blue “Shop Towels” brand to have a ringer in the mix.
They’re not even intended for kitchen use, but if they’re strong enough for the garage, they’ll handle the stovetop just fine

I much prefer Viva, for several reasons. It's plenty strong and absorbent and it's soft enough that I don't buy facial tissue anymore. A half sheet makes a perfect handkerchief. It's so soft that even if you have a cold, it doesn't hurt your nose. And it lasts with no "blow-through". Don't know why I'm so passionate about VIVA, but I am! But thanks for testing even the lowly paper towel.

I buy those blue shop towels, too! While I don't use them they way I use Bounty, it's nice to have a roll when really tough, nasty, jobs turn up. I'd rather toss a blue shop towel than a kitchen fabric towel because I can't get the stains out.

My issue recently with the Costco ones is that they have enlarged the 1/2 sheets to about 1" per sheet which makes you use more. They also individually wrap the rolls which is a waste of packaging though handy for the motorhome. Besides the Costco gripes, Bounty has been my pick for many years for all the reasons your test found. I can even wipe a cast iron pan without much lint (still not lint-free cotton).

    Hi Cook's Country,
Thank you for the video, great one as usual.
I guess I'm the only one that buys several different brands of paper towels, each kind for different tasks. I also use microfiber cloths, barmop towels, blue shop towels, floursack towels, dishcloths, and dish towels. If the paper towels were lightly used (like for dinner napkins), I wash them in the dishwater and hang them up to dry. The blue shop towels can be washed with the towels in the washer and dryer several times. I'm cheap, I pinch pennies, but I use the best towel for the job that needs to be done.
For those of you in the comments that said you use paper towels for draining bacon grease. If you only use two paper towels, then use a couple of sheets of newspaper under the paper towels, they soak up grease too, paper towels keep food away from the newsprint ink. And you can use fewer paper towels.
    Take care, stay safe.☺️✌️☮️🖖 😷

  • @vociferonheraldofthewinter2284

I loved viva and used that for years. It did the job better than any other I've ever used. Thick, plush, absorbent. They felt more like cloth that paper towel. But it was a pain in the BUTT to get them to unroll. When you've got a mess on your hands (literally) and you go to grab a paper towel and the sheet is sticking to the roll and fighting you for every inch, it's just too damn much. I finally hit the wall where I was just fed up with needing two hands every time I wanted to grab a paper towel and walked away from that brand.

I used Bounty for years, but switched a couple of years ago because the quality just didn't seem as good. I began using various brands of paper towels including store brands, usually whatever was on sale. Recently I noticed Brawny had a new type of towel called "TearA Square", where you had the option of tearing a full sheet into 2 halves or 4 squares. There are times when I need only a small piece of paper toweling, so I gave the new Brawny type a try.
I'm very pleased and plan to keep buying them. The full sheets tear easily but not so easily that you have to worry about them coming apart. The perforations hold up until you're ready to tear. I love having the option of four small squares from a whole sheet. When I first open a roll, I tear several full sheets into squares and stack them in a handy place on my counter. I also like the thickness and texture of Brawny towels. They do a good job of cleaning up, dry or wet. Some paper towels are almost useless unless you wet them first. Then they tend to shred. Not Brawny towels.

As a professional house cleaner and B&B owner, I used to use Bounty for over 20 years, but they aren't as good as they used to be. Viva has taken over that market, so I'm thinking that this was a paid promotion. "Sponsored" if you will.
    Regarding cleaning all that stuff:
Cooking pots with baked on food with vinegar gets most thing off with no scrubbing. Boil the pan with an inch of vinegar for 5-10 minutes, and finish removing any residue with baking soda.
I haven't used steel wool for over 30 years.
Baking soda, vinegar, and dishwashing soap is all I use, with Viva, nylon scrubbies and brushes in addition to my dishcloths which are crocheted or just sturdy terrycloth washcloths. My 10-year old stainless steel pans that I use with only wooden, nylon or silicon utensils look like new, with no scratches, and food doesn't stick. No metal on metal for me. I don't have time or energy to waste on cleaning.

Altho I'm not a member I get my paper towels from CostCo. Their Kirkland brand is the best I've ever used. As a former chef of 30 years I've used many a different brand of paper towels and the CostCo brand are far superior. But I will concur that Bounty is the best on the consumer market for non-membership products.

Paper towels are one of those things that are inexplicably expensive in this country, along with bell peppers. In Europe you pay about $1.20 for a pack of 4 paper towels. Over here it's $1.20 per roll. I get the 15 pack from Sam's Club which is $17 for 2200 sheets. Bell peppers in Europe are about $1.20 for a pack of 3 mixed colors or 5 green.

      Hi baire702,
Me too. I accidentally grabbed the blue shop towel I had been using in the kitchen (to clean the sink and countertops with using Comet) when I did laundry. I had already used it for a week, just rinsed it out and hung it to dry every day. I found it when I was folding the towels. I ended up using that one blue towel for a month, putting it in the washer and dryer once a week, before it finally fell apart.
I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one that washed and dried those towels.

After 40+ years of testing, Bounty isn't even close to the original Viva. Perhaps if draining bacon, Bounty would be fine, but not in overall durability. I can clean every window of a 4 door sedan with 2 Viva towels. One to wash, one to polish dry. Still plenty of life in the second one for doing the mirrors and wiping the dashboard. I know of no other paper towel that can do that.

I've used a variety of paper towels, including Bounty, Viva, Scott, shop towels and others, and have settled on the house brand ultra-quilted "our best quality" 2-ply (much better than single ply) paper towels from Dollar General. They have periodic sale prices for those who prefer them.

These Best is cloth. I haven't bought a single paper towel in over 8 years. Old cotton towels and t-shirts are the best. I have large pieces of white cotton t-shirt that I use in the kitchen for covering things in the microwave, for straining things like yogurt, and also textured ones for cleaning. The price of paper is way too much, and I'm not referring to money.
