- Wetherspoons. There's at least one in every town and city in the UK and there's at least 20 drunkards in each one at any given time, but can I successfully figure out where I am based on the 5 randomly generated Wetherspoons "pubs" in this game of geoguessr?

Looks like I forgot to put a low pass filter on this one so the high pitched noise is back. Big apologies, I know it makes it unwatchable for many of you.
Hope you all have a great weekend all the same, whether that be with or without perforated ear drums.
No problems on my iPad fwiw - looks like others had trouble though
Thank you for the acknowledgement mate. I was just commenting on this as I realized you were aware. I'm drunk so it's ok lol. Keep up the good work Tom, you're the best!
might want to pin this!
Haven't noticed any high-pitched noise other than my tinitus

"That's a tall building" This is why he's the GeoWizard folks.
🤭
I never cease to be amazed by his perceptiveness.
I mean every spoons has to be tall, otherwise where would the toilets be?

for the Hull round, there was a big giveaway you might not know about! The cream painted telephone booths are actually exclusive to Hull
Beat me to it
@@Nodisawesome And me, dead easy giveaway!
My dad went to uni there and this is legit the only thing he told me about the city

Was not expecting a Bodger and Badger reference but I welcome it with open arms.
I had not thought about that show in years, now I have the theme tune in my head. They really are never far away.

You can just picture what that place is like at half midnight on a Friday.
People arguing, dancing, eating their kebab off the floor, cans everywhere, probably someone being sick down the street.
I'm Australian and I recon Fred was an English national treasure, he was awesome in every way. I've watched everything about the man. RIP Fred...
We could do with a few more Freds around today mate.
not sure his wifes would agree on that.
I see Guy Martin as the modern day Dibnah. Different jobs but the same northern work ethic
I’m from The Netherlands, also watched everything. I noticed that lately some American YT-ers are doing reaction vids on Fred, also the laddering of the chimney.
@@janfluitsma8274 Have you seen the steam engines he built? If he wasn't up a chimney, he was working on those. Legend
At 3:13 theres a place called "Todmorden" - as a German, i can't help but to point out that this consists of two German words and the english translation would be something like "Deathmurder". Cheers England
The name Todmorden for the town was first used in the 17th century. Before that it was variously called Tottemerden, Totmardene or Totmerden. The meaning of the name derives from the Totta valley, and i don't believe it has any relation to the modern german language.
@@JohnyG29 Oh I'm sure it has nothing to do with the German language - just a funny coincidence i wanted point out. But thanks for the background of the name!

For the Hull one, the car to the right of the pub had a Hull FC sticker on the back window. Sports badges could help massively in the future
There's also the white phone boxes, which Hull is famous for

I was just thinking, “I hope geowizard posts a video I can watch at lunch today” and here we are.
Lunch? Fuck me its Snooker time over here!
This is my dinner routine with my partner
Lol same
I love sitting down and eating dinner while watching a geowiz video ;)
Seeing you miss the classic white phone boxes that are unique to Hull was so frustrating. Always fun to see if I actually recognize my home city.
for future reference, white phoneboxes are only found in hull !! so if you see one like there was outside the wetherspoons, you know where to look!
Love the Fred Dibnah mention, everyone needs to know about him. The documentary 'Steeplejack' is in my all time top 5. What a man.
I recognized Hull from the thumbnail. Spent way too many evenings in that Three Johns Scotts
I love that despite feeling like you had to explain what Wetherspoons is, you still dove headfirst into a Bodger & Badger reference. I'm here for it.
Once you spun around, and we saw the bomb shelter out front the pub I immediately realised that one was right beside the Museum of London Docklands by Canary Wharf. Proud of myself for that, got it super quick :D
The Three John Scotts! My hometown of Hull, so weird to see this pop up in a GeoWizard video but if it was to be any video it had to be the Weatherspoons one. The white phone boxes are always a giveaway when you’re in Hull too.
Same with me for Cambridge :D
Crazy to see this map being played on CZcams. Some of my friends made this map over the first lockdown for us to play after we had exhausted the previous Wetherspoon's that didn't have all the locations. I must have played this map 100 times or more since then.
Every Wetherspoons have their own separate carpet design. There is even a book about this subject. It’s called spoons carpets check it out 😂
They are magnets for daily wail reading gammon and their knuckle dragging wives
Been binge-watching Geoguessr for months waiting for Blackburn or Darwen to come up. So chuffed when the first one was The Old Chapel. I can confirm the chicken shop gets a lot of business!
I really do enjoy these videos. All of them really. You're my favourite CZcamsr right now. Please keep it up, stay real, and don't change. You're great!

I'm genuinely amazed Tom didn't know about the white phone boxes in Hull!
15:11 «When I've finished with Slough, there's Reading, Aldershot, Bracknell. Didcot, Yateley. You know. Winnersh. Taplow.»
Thatcham. Shinfield
The only time my home town (Yateley) is ever likely to get a mention on TV. We don't even have a Spoons.
Thanks to you, I binged Fred Dibnah videos for a few hours. I don't regret it. Cheers lad!
Can't believe that in 2021 there was not only a Bodger and Badger reference but bloody Fred Dibner mention as well.
Don't know if anyone else saw it, but for the final round, I figured out it was Cambridge because of the BlueArrow sign. If you read the text under the BlueArrow sign it says, "Language School Cambridge". I could barely make out the word with how pixelated the text was, but I ended up finding the Wetherspoon and getting a perfect score to secure the victory. Good round Tom
Decided to play this after watching. Second pub - The Ledger Building!! Cheers for that.
Having spent a lot of time in Liverpool I knew there wasn't a Wetherspoons on the docks, but I have to say the buildings and the area of that round do look very much like Liverpool docks!
The Spoons in Cambridge actually still shares the space with the Picture House, it's way too easy to get stuck there after watching a movie!
i just left this video for the past 2 hours watching an old man climb up chimneys. thanks for that, most therapeutic thing i've done in a while.

Fred Dibnah was amazing! In the 90s, I worked at the motorway services on the M40 and him and his wife used to call in a lot. I had the privilege of cooking for them
"Ya heard that Reese girl stabbed herself?"
"Wot, with a knife?"
"No with her spoon."

Thanks for visiting cambridge! I'm at Homerton college (the most normal one!) just down the road. I can confirm lot's of old men at 8am every saturday morning, getting a few pints in as the sun rises!
As someone from Nottingham, I knew it wasn't Notts but got such a buzz seeing you scan into the map!

3:30 FINNALY, I’ve found someone with the same passion for The legend that is Fred Dibnah as me!
Thank you for remembering Fred Dibnah. He is a national treasure
Never thought Id hear the name Fred Dibnah in this video. What a legend the guy was.
The Fred Dibnah reference... My respect for you just skyrocketed!
was anticipating that mash potato pun and you fully delivered, thankyou
White phone boxes. This equals Hull. Remember that for the future.
I was shouting HULL HULL HULL at my iPad. But I’m from nearby Scunthorpe. If you know, you know.
Great tip. Thought they may have just faded in the relentless Yorkshire sun ☀️
Loved this video. Hope you continue to do wetherspoons maps!
Love your UK guessing rounds. More please!
First instant recognition in Cambridge for me. Studying there helped
As he mentioned the spoons in his hometown being an old cinema, I thought about one in Cambridge I visited with my mum on an open day a few years ago being an old cinema.
When it popped up I was like "surely that's not the one in Cambridge"
My girlfriend went to Cambridge and we spent many nights in that spoons, very weird seeing Tom inspect it when I walked past it every time I came from the station into town
I'm from Cambridge and clicked on this hoping to see The Regal. Low and behold there it was in the final round
The blue arrow sign has cambridge on the bottom. That's what got me there
I live there and never been in it but driven past it many times, Actually saying that I think I have been in the cinema before XD
The Ledger Building in Canary Wharf (round 3) is my closest Whetherspoons, and yes the compass was wrong. You were looking east south east at the tower.
I knew that one right away from working there for around 4 years until recently. Funny how all the clues threw him off. I can totally see why it looked like Liverpool.
Tom you're a legend. Having a mid day, post-work beer, in what I would guess is the US equivalent of 'Witherspoon's' and watching you is the best way to unwind.
What is the US equivalent of Whetherspoons?
applebee's? lol
Mcmenamins in that they occupy old buildings, but they are not inexpensive.
@@afsocit ya' damn right lol
Living 10 minutes away from Darwen helped massively for the first one
Hull is not my closest spoons but it is nearby, so the name rang a bell but honestly even I didn’t recognise it, mainly because I think I’m more familiar with the other side of the building. But honestly I saw the name, looked at the surroundings, and because they don’t look much like the rest of the city, I was looking for everything to convince me it wasn’t Hull, and by the end of the round, I thought there was no way, I was fully convinced it was somewhere else. Don’t beat yourself up about it Tom - despite all the other comments, still even a local, who has seen many frequent it on social media, couldn’t identify it!
(I also should’ve most definitely recognised the cream telephone boxes, but I managed to convince myself that I was wrong in thinking they were exclusive to Hull haha)
First time ever you’ve dropped in a place near where I live (Cambridge, last round). Shouting at you ‘Cambridge because of the bikes’ like you can hear me 🥴 Keep up the good work man. Love your stuff!
I knew one day I'd watch Tom get a place I've been and today is that day! Been to the regal spoons in Cambridge many times
This was the first time I actually knew where it was and was screaming at the screen (the Canary Wharf one)
Always love it when people know about Fred Dibnah, absolute hero of a man
Genuine LOL when the Fred Dibnah stuff came out!
This is such British channel! 🙌
Edit - Bodger and Badger!!!
Yes! Keep ‘em coming Tom!
First time I've seen a location near me and it's for a wetherspoons video haha!!! Love it 😂
It's important to remember that Bodger and Badger are never far away.
Our Wetherspoons is also in an old cinema, and called The Regal. (Actually we have two Wetherspoonses; I think the other one is actually in a new build in the docks.)
yeah boi! fred dibnah is a legend, is show going around britain and trains/railways were always on
For the 4th round you know it's Hull because of the white telephone boxes :D
I bloody love Fred Dibnah. What a bloke.
fred dibnah what an absolute legend. Watched a series on him literally a month or so ago
Fred dibnah, a Bolton legend! Would love to see more like this, great vid
i can’t believe you started talking about fred dibnah, i only learned about him a week ago and now he’s coming up everywhere
okay now you're making me feel better about round two, i guessed canary wharf but in a different place and i thought I'd got the orientatoin messed up
Was everyone shouting "there's a DLR train! " for the London pub or just me?
I was sat here going "it's wharf, it's definitely wharf I've been there" but you even convinced me it was Liverpool lmao, I think I trust your opinion too much 🤣
For as long as you make this series I’m going to keep watching until I see my local lol
was not expecting the Cambridge one at the end, you can literally see my accom in the video! thought it would be funny if it did appear as it's the biggest spoons in the UK (supposedly)
Think the one in Ramsgate is now.
Spent every evening at the Wetherspoons in Elephant and Castle during my few day visit to London. Loved it.
The Canary Wharf one is the first and probably only one I've actually known in all of your GeoGuessr videos I've watched
This was class! Would love to see you get a perfect score on this one
I'm so happy that as an italian i beat you. I've only been to the UK twice
I just experienced my first win against Tom! On the London one, there was a sign on the partition directly on the left that said 'Spire London.' Great work as always though!
It's so strangely satisfying when a place pops up that you know immediately from sight, and then you watch someone try to piece together where it is.
Happened twice this video - with both the ones you couldn't find!
That was a lovely trip around the UK 👌
Bodger and badger reference was much appreciated
I got a perfect score!
Here's how I did it (Spoilers if you're playing along)
1 - Same as Tom, I saw Darwen, knew it was near Blackburn
2 - Saw the sign to Dundee, eventually found Arbroath
3 - Barely legible writing on the building next to the Wetherspoons actually said "Spire, London" (though I did also search in Liverpool first)
4 - Cream-coloured telephone boxes! You only find those in Hull
5 - "Blue arrow - language school Cambridge" (barely legible)
Great map, pleasure playing against you Tom
Saw the thumbnail and HAD to click on this. Spent more time than I'd like to admit in there.
Lmao when you said Lancashire and looked at that thing in the distance I thought of Fred Dibnah then you mentioned him like 10 seconds later 😮😂
As a scouser who once lived in "it's a tall building" in canary wharf, I found this particularly funny!
Darrener here! Can confirm Crunchy Plus' red salt chips are a godsend after too many pitchers 🤣
You should do this one again, it was pretty cool to see some smaller cities. I always thought of Hull as a better Slough, but it turns out it's pretty nice.
As soon as I saw the title I was like, I wonder if my spoons in Darwen will be on here. Behold he loads the first map and there she is the beauty!!!
Nice vid!
I’ve been to that Cambridge spoons so many times😭😂😂 I laughed hard when it popped up
Super happy that I recognised the Cambridge Spoons! That Picturehouse is also still operating as well!
I play this map more than any other. Genius. Decided my dream job is being on the team that comes up with Wetherspoon pub names.
You could probably upload a multiround, hours long video, and I'd watch it all. Don't know why, but I'm loving your videos. I don't even play Geoguessr..at all.
The trick with the Cambridge one is to have grown up there for 18 years. That really helped. That and the bikes.
Oh also the Regal used to be the biggest pub in the UK when it opened, and an old bloke in there once told me they have the biggest loos of any UK pub.
One more fun fact. The Picturehouse is a top cinema.
I was just happy to see one of the classic red phoneboxes!
"big coastal building"
I'll add that to my vocabulary, much obliged!
I'm a fan of Dibnah too, thanks for the link
Have to say I thought you would have got Hull because of the white phones boxes.
As an American I am so happy to beat you, but it was all because I was able to make out the word Cambridge on the blue arrow sign and got just 520 yards away.
Not good considering I knew the city but I'm proud of it
The cream phone boxes told me instantly that the three John Scott’s was in Hull. When red phone boxes were introduced in the 20s/30s, Hull city council didn’t like them and had cream ones which were less garish, and they’ve stuck to this day
the white telephone boxes of Hull, tip for you
For the 4th round
Kingston upon hull if thats more clear
Any idea why they have white telephone boxes?
@@PiousMoltar I think Hulls came before the typical red ones, at least they were made by the local hull council, The standard ones were red because of the post office btw.
