we manage a very good win this game with the post game engine review saying we played 94% v 88% accuracy and no bad blunders either player. we gain a winning advantage, subject to not blundering it away, after opponent gets into a position where 1 piece guards another piece and we can deflect that defending piece and win material, otherwise good effort. opponent does have a peak high rating at 2155.

yes, puzzles are very good, they help a lot with pattern recogniton. if you are trying to improve - over time, marathon not a spring - as well as playing as much as you have time for, try to set aside a bit of time to play back through games, especially losses, to learn from your mistakes and lots of puzzles. so you may over a week or a month play 50% - 75% of the time and have the rest of the time on study mode. try to play good principled chess, learn the basics well, challenge the centre, develop pieces, get castled, think of own king safety then attack. try various openings until you find which opening you prefer for each colour, that you enjoy playing and suits your style of play, then stick to them and play same openings over and over and over, repetition helps a lot, then if someone catches you out, play back with engine to see what should have played and try to learn for next time. good luck.
