The scammers have the ability to make unlimited user accounts to post scam ads. That is why it does no good to report them.
You can starve to death relying on mercari because buyers are so cheap you can't even feed your family or pay one single bill. They will low-ball you to death. Sometimes I even forget I'm selling on there for a few days and when I check back the cheapest item I have was sold. And I have high quality collectibles and antiques that probably should be in a auction house. I think they view mercari as a two bit flea market or something.
I switched back to eBay.

there are also people doing the good old "wish me a happy birthday for a free gaming laptop" or "who ever congrats me on my 20th birthday will get a big discount on this PS5" and the "my son died in a car crash and I want to give this item away for cheap to cure my depression, text this number and tell me why you need it the most." the stupid part is I nearly fell into one of them! i was playing jokes and told one of them happy birthday without excepting a response but then all of a sudden they started rushing for a shipping fee and even tried decreasing it.
I usually send scammers in the FB marketplace really nasty pornography, like I’m talking the worst kind!😂, I love their response. If you want to know what I mean, just google..

Or taking a mercari photo with a baby or kid like you're suppose to sympathize and lower your price because they have a sad look on their face holding a baby.
