    1:30 Stage 1 - Hydra
    4:08 Boss & Music Comparison - Gargoyle
    ----------------------------------------------------------------
    6:35 Stage 2 - Gorgon
    9:20 Boss - Twin Vulcan
    ----------------------------------------------------------------
    10:26 Stage 3 - Seiren
    12:48 Boss - King Fish
(Stages 1-3 are pretty much the same in all versions, but Stage 1 in AC/SNES has some different graphics)
    ----------------------------------------------------------------
    14:10 Stage 4 - Haides
    16:58 Boss AC/SNES - Green Mech
    17:58 Boss MD - G Lobster
(The stage and boss are totally different between the AC/SNES and MD. The SNES boss also has different music than the AC, which has the same music with Boss 5 of the MD).
    ----------------------------------------------------------------
    18:20 Stage 5 - Ellis
    21:54 Boss - Mobile Fort
(Like Stage 4, the AC/SNES is different from MD, but they have the same boss. The boss music is different in all three versions)
    ----------------------------------------------------------------
    23:00 Stage 6 - Cerberus
25:38 Boss and Asteroids (SNES only)
(The AC is exactly the same with MD, but the SNES is a "remake" of the stage with different music and an extended section with asteroids, plus a new boss)
    ----------------------------------------------------------------
    27:52 Stage 7 - Orn Base
32:32 Boss and Music Comparison - Base Guarder
(Pretty much the same with some minor differences in layout and enemy placement).
    ----------------------------------------------------------------
    34:40 Stage 8 (SNES Only)
    36:14 Final Boss (SNES Only)
    37:02 Stage 8 - Orn Core
38:20 Final Boss and Music Comparison - Khaos
41:05 Final Boss Final Hit and Endings
(The SNES has a totally new final stage and boss, while the final stage in AC is the same with the MD, with an added mini-boss before the final one).
Thunder Force III was originally developed for the Mega Drive, and this is really the definitive version - the AC plays exactly like the MD and it's a matter of preference whether one enjoys levels 4 and 5 from the MD or the Arcade, while the SNES version is good port.

The original Mega Drive game is the best in my opinion, but Thunder Force AC on the Arcade comes in a close second, both are great games.
SNES on the other hand :/

I'm really surprised how well the SNES stands up. I can obviously see yhe slowdown, but porting this game to the SNES is no easy feat. The architecture is waaaay different than the genesis or the C2, where the arcade has the exact same CPU as the genesis making it nearly a one to one conversion.

    • @DeskoDev
      @DeskoDev Před 2 lety +1

The arcade version was directly ported from the Genesis version, too - there's a prototype version floating around that's relatively unchanged compared to the final version.

I don't saw anyone doing this... A litte after getting Fire on the first stage (Genesis Only), go to the top of the screen shooting... A little before the flowers start to attack you'll receive a Laser that is hidden behind some screen pixels.

Absolutely love Thunderforce 3, would of loved to have seen the Snes version converted properly though. I own all three, the Snes is a lazy port. Check out Rendering rangers, Super Macross, class snes programming.

I played a lot 3 and AC (Arcade version). Arcade version is more difficult than 3. It is crazy that Arcade version is a port from console. Funny, SNES version runs really slower and Megadrive and Arcade need to pause before boss fight.

I always wondered who did the SNES-only tracks. It's somehow on record that Yoshida did Omake-2, and a lot of them sound similar to his style from TF4, the rolling basslines especially. But someone on the team could have imitated it. Some of them are Elemental Master-ish but a BIT too simple even for early Yamanishi. However, none of them ever worked with the SNES sound chip before and might not have been involved...

SNES version came close in its slowest and cheapest cost-wise mode. The SNES uses 2 different speeds ROMs, SlowROM which runs at 2.68mhz and therefore makes the CPU also run at 2.68mhz, while FastROM would run the system in its fastest mode, 3.58mhz ROM speed and CPU. And while the SNES CPU runs at a lower mhz it achieve twice as many instructions per second (ipc). If you dont believe me just look at games like Gradius III for the SNES which have been hacked in real hardware to use FastROM vs its slower SlowROM version and it gets rid of all the slow down and even speeds up the game

    czcams.com/video/siwZTorWw2E/video.html Super Ghouls and Ghosts
    czcams.com/video/XDTBxQfFdeg/video.html
Heck you can make it even faster with the SA-1 chip which is a CPU running @ 10.58mhz, the reason so many companies used the slower ROM is because its cheaper and you know how these companies are.

Shmups like Rendering Ranger R2 (the shump sections), Scrambled Valkyrie and Super Aleste show the developers most certainly weren't taking full advantage of the SNES' capabilities here. It's not taking advantage of the increased colour count on SNES, there's no proper transparency, it never uses any of the extra layers for more parallax on the backgrounds, etc. I mean, Christ, it's not even using FastROM. It's doing everything to play to the Genesis' strength and nothing to take advantage of the SNES' strengths.

One of the rare instances where the Genesis is better than the powerful SNES and the Mighty Arcade.

  • @alexmazvi
    @alexmazvi Před 5 měsíci

Hey, the snes version is not bad at all, but sometimes falls down on fps wich really sucks. I still think the original MD colors of the Gargoyle boss are better. Also for some reason the MD music sounds better than the arcade version on some levels?, snes is out of the question here as the sound of snes is like stuffing your ears with a potato (not that it sounds bad, but it's toooooo compressed due to the sample system, in this game wich original music is much more clear due to the use of fm synthesis the difference hits hard).
EDIT: OMG WHAT DID THEY DO WITH HAIDES!? I know the original boss is a little bit more easy, but the original level design and programming is absolutly insane, and longer. Also Ellis on arcade and snes is so ugly, why didn't they use the snow and ice sprites?

  • @ef1265

snes version is the worst, lots of slowdown and screen is stretched too wide so you see less of the play area, also the sound is the worst on it
