  • Professor Carlo Rovelli is among the greatest scientific communicators in the world. So RAZOR’s Neil Cairns travelled to his home in Verona with a mission to understand some of the greatest mysteries of modern times.
Watch this video to learn: What is time, and what happens when it passes faster?
Why couldn’t Einstein understand quantum mechanics, and what on (or indeed off) Earth is quantum loop gravity?
And what happens inside black holes.
Half an hour should be enough…

General relativity was published several years after special relativity.

Disclaimer: not a scientist. I am an artist.
In my view there are two kinds of genius/reasoning: inductive and deductive. Those who conceive and those who refine. Inside of Science as a disciplinary entity I refer to them as Theorists and Engineers, but, objectively, they are Creatives and Extrapolatives, respectively.

The problem is *not* quantum mechanics being confusing. The problem is:
    1. People are self-centered
    2. People have carpy communication skills
    3. Put these in an expert, and you end up with a knowledgable individual who assumes “if I find it easy, it must be easy,” or, simply lacks the desire and capacity to communicate their knowledge with others (which describes 99.999…% of academia).
For example, I have yet to see a single video that explains “What is a quantum computer?” And the ones out there aren’t just a little bit bad. They’re astonishingly atrocious. Even more vexing, the person who made it thinks they did a great job!
This isn’t exclusive to quantum mechanics or academia. It’s a problem with humanity in general.
EDIT: Anyone who’s spent any amount of time in academia can attest there’s absolutely no correlation whatsoever between an individuals intelligence and their communication skills.
