    HARK THE HERALD ANGELS SING LYRICS
    Hark the herald angels sing,
    "Glory to the newborn King!
    Peace on earth and mercy mild
    God and sinners reconciled"
    Joyful, all ye nations rise,
    Join the triumph of the skies.
    Nature rise and worship him,
    Who is born at Bethlehem.
    Hark! The herald angels sing,
    "Glory to the newborn King!"
    Christ by highest heav'n adored,
    Christ the everlasting Lord.
    Late in time behold Him come,
    Offspring of a Virgin's womb.
    Veiled in flesh the Godhead see,
    Hail the incarnate Deity.
    Pleased as man with men to appear,
    Jesus, our Emmanuel here.
    Hark! The herald angels sing,
    "Glory to the newborn King!"
    Hail the heav'n-born Prince of Peace!
    Hail the Son of Righteousness!
    Light and life around He brings,
    Ris'n with healing in His wings.
    Mild He lays His glory by,
    Born that men no more may die.
    Born to raise the sons of earth,
    Born to give them second birth.
    Hark! The herald angels sing,
    "Glory to the newborn King”.

    • @ReawakenHymns
      @ReawakenHymns  Před 3 lety +7

      The lyrics in this version are from the 1758 adaptation by George Whitefield. They are fairly close to Wesley's original lyrics from 1739, though Wesleys original first line is "Hark how all the Welkin rings" (glad Whitefield changed that!). I believe the most common adaptation in use today is from the 1961 "Carols for Choirs". This is the adaptation which contains the lines "With the angelic host proclaim" and "Pleased as man with man to dwell". Is that the one you are referring too?

    • @neill.m.herbert
      @neill.m.herbert Před 3 lety +1

      @@ReawakenHymns "Welkin"? Nice. Learn something new every day.
      As an 80s kid, it figures I would think something from the 60s is "traditional." lol. But I do think that version is older than the 1961. For instance, hymnary.org has scans of older hymnal pages including what I considered the now-common version. This page from a Moravian hymnal from 1920 includes the familiar four-line stanzas (but they're "upside-down") and some even more unfamiliar words in verse 3: hymnary.org/hymn/HLMC1920/page/286

      @ReawakenHymns  Před rokem +2

      The original Charles Wesley lyrics from 1739 is "Universal Nature say, CHRIST the LORD is born to Day!", the ones in this video are from George Whitefield's adaptation in 1758. The lyrics you mentioned are the most common and were changed later, possibly in "Carols for Choir" in 1961
