With all due respect, working at an amusement park is fine if you're in High School or College. Disneyland is NOT designed to be a career. He said with my family of four we would be living below the poverty line. We’d have to live 2-3 hours from the park to afford rent. The person who’s position I was filling had graduated from my school 3 years prior and was unable to make it work financially. Disney should pay all their character actors at least $50-60 an hour! That’s how much I make as a piano teacher, so I’d imagine every Disney character actor - who goes through extensive, brutal, dedicated, difficult training, mentally and physically, to prepare for their select Disney roles - would earn even more! Disney expects the actor to literally BECOME the character and morph into them. Plus they have to keep on a happy, eager face all day/night and show lots of affection towards the guests, even if they are completely burned out on the inside.
This, to me, is a truly honorable and commendable career for them to have. Yes, it’s a true career for the actors; not simply a job. The chances of an applicant being chosen as a Disney princess or other character is extremely rare. So considering all those tedious and exhaustive parts of their work, I believe the princesses/villains/characters deserve AT LEAST $50 an hour. I’d pay them even more if it was up to me, because they truly make a big impact on the lives of children and keep their imagination and dreams alive. *Disney has a net worth of 168 BILLION as of June, 2023. They’re more than capable of giving ALL their employees a generous, well-deserved salary!*

Good for you man that you were able to switch to a better job. But that's not the point. It's about taking care of your employees. They are not asking for massive raises here. They're simply asking for a minimum wage for their basic necessities. The same woman who has been working for 30yrs, was able to afford a single BHK back in the day is now living in a shared condo. That just shows you that you're wages are not being adjusted for inflation. Sadly that's the case everywhere. But what irks me is that attitude that "I was able to do better so they could too" and hinder meaningful change. Just because you were able to do it, doesn't mean anyone can. There are only so many jobs for so many ppl. And unfortunately most jobs are not even paying the minimum wage. But your CXOs make millions and write how they take care of their employees but they only care about revenues/profit and the wealth gap increases by the micro second.

I was able to keep a roof over my head. It wasn't great income, but I was able to make ends meet. Fast forward to 2018, was in between jobs and needed to get some money flowing. So went back to work at Disneyland for $13 an hour. Could barely make my car payment, not much money left for much after utilities. My income at Disney wasn't even paying the rent. Luckily I was offered a contract in my career field and left Disney after two months and was able to catch up on my living expenses. Another thing about Disneyland is that they don't start you Full Time. I barely got 25 hours a week at best. In Walt Disney World most hire in positions are Full Time, but even now, the pay isn't that great. How much the cost of living has gone up from 2009 to 2018, wages have not risen to compensate. We have a 'National minimum wage' and a 'London living wage'. The LLW is higher than the NMW because obviously, living in london is a lot more expensive than the average to live in other areas. The same goes for other major cities in the world. Yes, everything is more expensive, but you get paid more. Does your money go as far as someone who gets paid less in a cheaper area?
